BlackBerry Smartphone Wifi and data plan
I can't use my wifi when my data plan is turned off so that means if I was abroad and he wanted to use my wifi I have to turn on the data plan and I then will charge even if the wifi is free?
I talked to my SP and they said that I get charged if I used my data abroad plan.
If anyone can confirm here that you can not use wifi if no data plan?
I'm following you better now, thank you.
Harry wrote:How do they say that I use my data service if my sim card is not in the phone
You do not use the data service IF even the SIM card is removed.
For example, I have a Bold 9000 sitting here with me with no SIM in there either. If I turn off data services, WiFi browser does not work. If turn ON data services, WiFi, browser will work. This "BOLD" PIN is saved with ANY carrier. No data of the carrier service is used.
Who help me?

I'm curious to know if you have a data plan for the phone WiFi part to work properly. Sprint has said that you have to have one, but I want to know if it's true. I love the phone but I really don't want to pay for a data plan if I don't have to. In other words, I want to know if you can use an an i680 active sim card and use the WiFi browser. Sprint said that if you try, you will fry the i1. As far as I know, most for Sprint/Nextel sim cards are interchangeable.
you don't have to get the data Plan, you can browse the internet for free on any Nextel (with the exception of blackberry), but I block internet access because you will receive no contact Direct or regular calls the use of the internet (even if you use it, the mobile phone internet access to get the location) emails, facebook updates, etc.)
It of the best phone you'll ever have on nextel, but sucks it with nextel internet...

Hello
Here's the problem:
At home, I use Wi-Fi with my z10, when I leave the House, my logic says that the unit should switch to the data connection / service plan provided by the companies I have active.
What happens is that im without any connection and I have to turn off the wifi and restart the device. Can someone help me pls for this problem?
Thank youI communicate with your wireless service provider and make sure that your data plan is configured correctly. If this does not fix it they have to escalate your case to BlackBerry.

BlackBerry smartphones must have data plan?
Why is Verizon requires the data but not Cingular plan not? I would like to than the blackberry for features to have my outlook on my phone calendar. I realize without wireless sync I have to use a cable on a daily basis to update. I'm fine with, I don't however need recover emails from work on my phone all day while I'm sitting at my desk. I know people with Cingular that have blackberrys without data plan and people with Verizon, which projected data automatically added to their bill when they bought the blackberry. Verizon told me it's a question of RIM Blackberry, not a matter of Verizon. Why Blackberry have different policies with these two carriers?
PDA/Smartphones and BlackBerry have a full web browser, are able to email and send and receive data. When these resources are used, the costs are incurred. The best way to control those costs is with a PDA nationally or Blackberrry Email Plan featuring unlimited internet and email. Blackberry devices must have a data plan that we have an agreement with their Builder.
It's what Verizon told me today. Thanks for your help though! Now I have to decide whether to suck it up and get the unwanted data plan or move from Cingular...

BlackBerry Smartphone Wifi and Email Setup
Hi all
I recently bought a unlocked BB Bold 9000 in the United States. I am currently in Hong Kong where I use a local SIM card for my phone.
During the initial installation, I came across two issues:
1 email to "create or add an email address" option was not available, and
2. Wifi: It's what's really irking me. WiFi means I should be able to connect to any hotspot, the free space, the network that I have access, regardless of my plan, correct? I feel I have tried everything, but when I go to the browser, he repeats to me "you are not currently in an area that can handle the communication of data, therefore, the browser may not retrieve all of the web pages".
I'm really frustrated by the wifi configuration, so if someone could help me, I would appreciate it. My friends with IPhones and the basic sim cards browse far and I have purposely NOT buy an iphone. Hope we can prove them wrong. Thank you!
To create an e-mail account on the device you need of blackberry data plan from your carrier? you have a?
The wifi browser, go to menu, options, advanced options, browser, change the default browser for wifi browser.

BlackBerry Smartphones, wifi and mobile network Q
If I turn on my wifi at home & sign in, & at the same time, let Mobile network on... fresh data which of them will be run out of? The Mobile network will win or share or just use wifi?
Also I was wondering because I wonder if light work wifi when I'm at work, save my data & pass their lol
TIA!
Hello
In general, BBs "prefer" WiFi network of business for services BIS data. You can always check inside the connection management > State of Services, which BIS route is average.
But you should also check inside the apps... many 3rd party applications have configuration items, inside the application, allowing you to order the application to use a data compared to another channel. What I always do is run my apps use BIS... in this way, they will follow along as BIS shifts between WiFi and my network of business data. But, if (for example) you configure an application to use only your corporate data network, while the app can avoid past well after BIS BIS to WiFi, and this app may well continue to consume data out of your network connection data carrier, even if BIS moved to WiFi.
With older OS levels, you had no choice, but to leave the "Data Services" set on "on" any channel to use, which often caused the situation described above (BIS on WiFi, but some consumption of carrier data app)... disabling the Services of data, these levels of older OS, BIS-level data for all channels off including WiFi. With the later levels of the operating system (somewhere in the OS7 range, I remember well), you can actually turn off the parameter Data Services and wireless leash... that allows BIS to still work on WiFi, but prevents any application using the data carrier network regardless of how the application is configured.
But... I'm curious... you may have about the features that only work on SmartPhones BB, yet your profile on this site says you have only a PlayBook, in which case none of this applies since the PB has no radio has WiFi and mobile only. But, you posted this in the "BOLD" of this site section, so you could guess assumes that you have a "BOLD" in addition to your PB...
Good luck!

BlackBerry Smartphones AT &; T data plan
OK, we need nextel for industry. Passed to a bb and it turn changed on this sprint phone that does not whence our nextel. I don't need another cell plan, but I'm here to get the emails and view attachments, etc.. Someone uses-data plans from AT & T with/without cell phone service. I guess that to be able to use the gps on the BB, you need internet access not only the navigation. I'm so confused b/c that all data usage.

BlackBerry Smartphones BiS or data Plan
Is it necessary to have BIS access to emails, will be the only provider Mobile Data Plan would be enough.
Hello
See this FAQ for more information:
Note that it is generic... with hundreds of carriers in the world with dozens of different data plans, it is impossible for anyone other than them to respond to the specificity of your question. But, generally speaking, a data plan that allows the BIS is indeed necessary to send to the function.
Good luck!

BlackBerry smartphone wifi and aplications.
Hello.
Is it possible to force an application to use just wifi or anything?
Thank you
You can disable the use of these data over the cellular network. You'd still be able to send and receive phone calls, but no data could be exchanged.
You might be able to do using the policy. It would be wise for businesses to have this ability.
Other that, the applications themselves have to be written to use only WiFi. There is an option that developers can set when they establish a network ("interface = wifi") connection. This option causes to a WiFi connection.

BlackBerry Smartphone WiFi and Email Services
Hello world.
I got my new Blackberry 8520 Curve unlocked yesterday, pay-as-you-go.
While I am able to connect to the internet via my router, can someone please tell me how to connect via the Services of Blackberry, as obviously connect to my router is not very useful abroad.
Inanticipation thanks for your help

Hi and welcome to the Forums!
First of all, you must check with your service provider and to ensure that your account includes access to their Services for Internet BlackBerry (BIS)... If not, there will be no way to use these services. Quite often, the distribution accounts do not include this.
Good luck and let us know!

Z10 Z10 blackBerry on a normal data plan (not BIS)
After researching if the Z10 operates on a data plan normal and not a BIS and of course it worked perfectly on Wi - Fi without a SIM card, wanted to just make sure that they are compatible with a normal cellular data plan, I went for it yesterday and Yes, everything worked except BBM, hell the BlackBerry logo disappeared from the home screen. I have contacted my provider and they shocked me, they told me it is not possible to not have an ENCORE with the Z10, and they were surprised, I was able to browse the net and send and receive e-mails, and they said they cannot support me!
So why did I do that? A normal data plan is cheaper here, in the UNITED Arab Emirates, my cancelled BIS gave me 500 MB to 79AED, and the normal data plan gives me 1 GB for 50AED. Is there no work around for this before that I have to go back?Hey ya3goub,
Welcome to the community of BlackBerry Support Forums.
Thanks for the question.
10 blackBerry smartphones require a data plan normal of your network service provider. However the network service provider must support BlackBerry 10, otherwise some BlackBerry services will not work.
Also BIS data plans are not available for smartphones BlackBerry 10.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
See you soon.

Queries Smartphones Rogers Blackberry Bold blackBerry - wireless and data Plan-
I talked to people at Rogers and have seen various posts, and I am VERY confused.
Currently, I have a new Blackberry "BOLD" (since 12/14/08) with
a data plan.
Issues related to the:
(1) if I'm on Wifi (checked under managed connections - service status) and I'm surfing Internet, do I get charged for usage under the Rogers data plan?
(2) if I'm on Wifi (checked as stated above) and I use the BB services
like Blackberry Messenger, which are charged according to the Rogers data plan?
My assumption has been that Wifi for browsing the Internet (using the Hotspot browser) should NOT pay i.e. does not pass by Rogers but services Blackberry (BB Messenger, my Gmail and Hotmail account) would be charged under the Rogers plan data through the network 3 G or Wifi.
Can you get it someone please let me know if the above is correct, because I'm quite confused.
Thanks in advance... Elliot
(1) if I use the Internet Hotspot browser using Wifi to surf the Internet, I should NOT charged under the plan of Rogers data... is this correct?
Yes is correct.
(2) there are I understand that Internet Hotspot browser does NOT work when Wifi is NOT working... is this correct?
Yes is correct.
My other post was on the features of the Blackberry like Blackberry Messenger, mobile.blackberry.com, do not work with Hotspot Wifi browser.

An other 'Wifi without data plan"blackBerry smartphones Question - Rogers Canada
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and blackberries in general... Please bear with me.
I am a student. Currently, I have a voice plan base on a LG Xenon with Rogers in the Canada. It includes minutes and unlimited texting. Enough for me.
I am looking to buy a Blackberry Curve 3 G/9300 off someone. I just want to throw my SIM in there so I can use my normal plan with the phone. My understanding is that I can phone Rogers and tell them to block all data, if I get no charge on my Bill. Fine. However, I also understand that the 9300 is a wi - fi phone.
Let's say that I get the 9300, contact Rogers and tell them to block all data on my plan.
Can I still use my browser in a Wi - Fi hotspot? How should I do? (I know that I read somewhere that you need to configure to be about to access and not talkspot... If someone could help me with this that would be great). Also, I read that, so that I am still able to use a wi - fi connection, I need to have data 'on' in the phone. If the data is 'on' in the phone, but I've blocked data with Rogers, can I still use a wi - fi connection? This would prevent the costs of data on my Bill?
In addition, I understand that I will not be able to receive multimedia messages without a data plan. Once again, if I'm in a wi - fi hotspot... Can I receive these messages from photos?
I'm sure it's a question very well known and well hated to you all and I'm really sorry to ask, but I just need some clarification. I don't want to be stuck with a big Bill with I ever intend on paying data charges. If someone could help me with this, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you very much!

Also, I read that, so that I am still able to use a wi - fi connection, I need to have data 'on' in the phone. Rogers could see your phone and charge you for a plan anyway. AT & T to do this, if you add in a smart phone with out telling them.
In addition, I understand that I will not be able to receive multimedia messages without a data plan. Once again, if I'm in a wi - fi hotspot... Can I receive these messages from photos? No only simple navigation cannot be made and Pandora can be used in mode Wi - Fi.

BlackBerry Smartphones Facebook and Yahoo! Messenger for Wifi
Hello Peepz!
Can I use my Facebook and Yahoo! Messenger on BlackBerry Curve 8520 using a Wifi connection?
Yep... sure can, as long as you always have a BlackBerry BIS data Plan on your account, you can use only (data WiFi turned off). But you still have the data Plan.

IM in Vancouver to the Canada.
I now use a SS Galaxy Note After the termination of my plan with Rogers where I used a Sony Ericsson K790A of 2007 which has been a pain in my fingers to type (pressing the key '7' 4 times to get an "s" LOL).
Im having trouble typing on the screen Android Galaxy Note (many corrections, difficulty getting the cursor where I want, etc.) and my msg speed has decreased substantially.
So, I want to dedicated as on the BB keys. IM now Scouting on BB against Android
but I'm afraid to see Rogers have different regimes of BB and ppl so many here have so many fundamental problems with things that are a mistake on the Galaxy Note like GMAILs disappear from their screens and calendar synchronization issues and you name it.
Can anyone recommend a phone good qwerty keyboard which is a bar phone and more reliable than the BB?
Thanks for your review.

In the title of your thread, you wonder if BlackBerry is really so different a phone. Yes. When you subscribe to a BlackBerry data plan (also known as the BIS, BlackBerry Internet service), your phone sends most of its data through the servers of RIM where it is compressed and encrypted. Also you will need a data of BlackBerry (BIS) plan to use BlackBerry native apps like BBM and receive emails on your BlackBerry.
