BlackBerry Smartphones first timer question (sorry!)

Hey all,.

I am a newbie to the BB but love until now.  I have a quick and probably stupid question on the calendar - when put in meetings/appointments seem to let me just plan on time. How can I change the start time of something other than time?

Thank you very much

Welcme to Frums!

This isn't a stupid stupid question!  When you go to the calendar application, then click on the menu and NEW, (make sure you are on the desired date) skip to BEGINNING that will show your day and the date and time (which is in hours). You can scroll through the minutes and change the time.

Enjoy this blackberry!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones countdown timer will not be reset (also published in Council 8220)

I have put up with this problem for quite a while and starts to get really frustrated with it.  There are several topics that describe the 'why' is happening on other Blackberry (Storm 9530) devices but not how to fix it.  At least not how to solve this problem on a 8220.  They all mention the same symptoms, I'm having and related countdown of the number of "negative" (which does make any sense to me).  It was mentioned that the 744 hours is a turning point, and I agree.  I think it has to do with the idea that the timer was not supposed to go to more than 1 month/31 days/744 hours.

Currently, my timer shows 00:00:00 if I reset, but if I hit the start, he goes to 743:59:59 and countdown starts.  If I try all 1 minute and 5 minutes or whatever it is I have the patience to test, again, it will count down to 0, and then roll immediately to 743:59:59.  If I add 99:00:00, it shows that on the countdown screen, and then if I try to change the time again he auto-remplit with 03:00 (it will still use the rest of I put in next so divided by 24 hours).  Another example, if I put 24:00:00, it will add 24 hours to the existing number (in hundreds) and the field will fill with all zeros again.  I can only reduce the time shown on the clock having a rest and then reset to 0.  Essentially, I can always get to show a multiple of 24 hours, but I'm just trying to set reminders of the laundry, etc...  It's ridiculous!

(v4.6.0.180 platform 4.1.0.61) I've done a zillion battery tire since it started and I don't want to wipe all my applications...

mmlowe, please don't double post your questions in the forum... rude and someone has just to clean it up.  Were responded to your other post: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Pearl-BlackBerry-8100/Countdown-timer-won-t-reset/...

  • BlackBerry Smartphones first recharge new battery

I've recently updated to a Bold 9700 & want to make sure I have properly recharge the battery for the first time in order to ensure the best performance for the future. I searched the messageboards & am left confused as to what to do for the best.

In desperation, I talked to a boy of my carrier O2, technical support team, who advised the battery for a total of 16 hours initially in order to condition it before using the phone for the first time.

At its correct advice, or do I just charge the battery until the phone shows it has a charge of 100% on this subject?

No indication on this would be highly appreciated.

As far as I know, the first charge is always about 16 hours for most cell phone batteries. If you let it, even though it says 100%.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Google Maps, questions and issues

So, today is the first time I used my gps on my storm, and my first opportunity to use google maps.

Everything worked fine except a few things that made my trip to find a little difficult doctors Office and the pop up text that tells you which way to turn, Center of the screen about the location and map scroll.

I used google maps in the past on my Moto Q, and if I remember correctly, I would have to press the #3 key to move to the next round.  I checked the Gmaps menu by pressing the BB button and there is no options in there, so I went to the screen by a click.  Sometimes he could work and advance to the next round, other times it should show a picture of the box or do nothing at all.

I'm happy that Gmaps finally works with the storm, but I would suggest to google when the tower was filed, which automatically advances the text box for the next round.

Everyone knows these issues, or has found a workaround?

When you have a path (= a list of points), the application has no way of understanding, you pass by a point. If I rephrase what you want:
"whenever you pass a point, you want an update so that the remaining path does not include the above"
and rephrase so the application can run:
"whenever you pass a point, you want the calculated again way to take into account your position."
Since there is no way of knowing when that happens "all weather", necessarily becomes what you ask for:
"update the path to destination in a frequent manner"

It is of course possible, but very tedious for the device I guess. It is easier for a GPS device that has infinite energy (= powered by car).

  • BlackBerry smartphones a few questions... Sorry so many questions...

Hello. I just got my BB a week ago so I have a few questions. I've traveled the previous pages to see if my questions were already asked, but I didn't see it (at least not with the first 6 pages) so sorry if this is a repeat.

    1. If you add a song to your BlackBerry, as in iTunes list, can you use that as a ringtone too? Or not because he was transferred in a song and not a ringtone by itself?

    2. is there a way to watch videos online? From YouTube or other sites that require Flash?

    3. I currently have my left convenience as the phone lock, requiring a password to unlock it (not just the #* or whatever the generic unlock code). However, my phone is locked automatically after 1 hour (it's long, I could put it). Is there a way to disable the fact it locks automatically after 1 hour, but still have the password how to unlock my phone?

    4. is there a way to disable the key tones when dialing a number? Even when I'm on silent or vibrate, whenever I have to dial a number, the numbers still make noise.

    5. If you accidentally delete a text, is it possible to get it back? My old phone had the ability to browse the deleted texts.

I think that's it... Thanks so much in advance!

    Jess

Hi and welcome to the forums,

lets take one at a time:

    (1) you can use a song as a ringtone, go to music media, select the key to success menu song and choose set as ringtone.

The song will not play like a ringtome just 4or 5 seconds of it.

    2) there are 3rd party apps that will allow you to which SOME videos, it depends on the format. I need to find the

an I know, just do not remember the name right now

    (3) it is not an option to disable the timeout of security if you are using the password, type of sense if you think about it. I got mine because I'm on and outside it frequently the value for an hour. But I always manually lock it when I leave.

    (4) No, the keytones stay on, even in vibrate mode.

    (5) I have to watch this

So I owe you a link and a response to 5.

Please let me know if others answer your questions, and I will return with more information.

  • Phone smart blackBerry Smartphones first and I am confused - loads of questions

So, I am trying to get a handle on this new Blackberry.  I'm upgrading to a Motorola RAZR v3 and the learning curve is steeper than I expected.

I bought unlocked on amazon.com and slipped my service from T-Mobile Prepaid SIM inside (no data plan).  I managed to get my contacts in there (not perfectly, but they are there).  I figured out how phone and text (yay).

After a few questions, I finally convinced my router it was OK for the Blackberry to connect. I understood that I must use the Hotspot browser for surfing the net via my wifi connection and successfully, went to gmail and my personal site.

First question: how zoom a page?

Second, I think I can surf very well, but when I check the status, Wifi is not checked, it has a dashboard.  I'm sure he had a tick when I first put in place last night.  What is the dashboard and how to fix this?

Where is my real problem is set up email - when I go to the configuration of email, I only get the choice of "corporate email.  It is not useful

I need to know better what are the limits of the Unit regarding internet access - I thought I could use it as my Ipod Touch, which of course has * only * wifi.  I've set up email on this subject, no problem.  I have read in various places that it does not require a data plan for electronic mail, in other places, it takes a data plan to "use the wifi.  Well, what for, since I can surf the net fine?

Could also use some advice on how to get additional applications, and if they will work through the connection of the phone, wifi, both or none.

Oh!  And one of the reasons I bought this particular phone are that it supports UMA - this is supposed to go to the WiFi during a call, if the cell is too low.  My cell in my house link of sucks (even with an extension of the cell).  It is, on a device with no data plan, but a strong WiFi, that function will work?

Sorry for so many questions, hope that y ' All can help me!

Hello and welcome to the Forums of Support BlackBerry.com.

All (or almost) your questions can be answered in one sentence.

You need the BlackBerry data Plan on your account. It will not work on a prepaid account. As simple as that.

With THE BlackBerry data Plan email browser set, full employment, UMA WiFi calling AND it's cute little check mark by the installation of WiFi.

Wait - what about applications?  Apps will not work with Wifi either? Why not?  Make my Ipod Touch apps...

I spend $100 per YEAR for access to the phone.  TMobile wants me to pay $40 a month for a blackberry data plan.  Phooey.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones New User: Questions about the internal clock synchronization, software updated

    Hellko Forum.

For two weeks, I use a Blackberry Bold 9900 with OS7.1 and I am very satisfied with the device.

But there are some questions for which I have found no solution:

(*) Looking back at my old Siemens S10D or SK65, they had an option to synchronize the internal clock with time of the GSM network information. Will there be a similar option in the Bold 9900? What I found was an option in the date and time settings. But when I put "Government aktualisieren" (setting the time) on 'automatic' then time switches to October 5, 2013, 12:20 and nothing happens. Is it possible to connect to an NTP server? If so, where to enter the address?

(*) On this Web page http://de.blackberry.com/software/smartphones/update/blackberry7-os.html?LID=de:bb:support:update - of... Describes how to upgrade the software of the smartphone "over the air". But I can't find this option. Where the developer has hidden this feature?

Thanks a lot for the answers in advance

I have problems with my Bold 9900.  My phone is less than a year and now I can't open my address book.  The phone freezes and I have to take out the battery to restart.  At the same time, my BBM and App World leave works as well.  I can't access an application.

Exactly as you wrote, there is no such capacity... you can "restore" data, but you can only "recharge" your operating system... so, I would recommend that you attempt to reload your OS and perhaps update. Here are a few tips.

At the top of each forum device, there should be some 'sticky' threads dealing with the level of the OS available for many models. If they understand your model, please use those as a reference as you go along. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the download portal official for packages of OS for your model:

From a PC, you can install any compatible OS package (for example, for your BB model exact number) of a BB via this procedure:

Note Although written to "recharge" and the storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade or recharge any BB device model - depends on the operating system package you download and install on your PC. If this OS package comes from one carrier other carrier for which your BB was built, then remove, on your PC, all copies of the SELLER. XML... There will be at least one and maybe 2, and they will be located in the same way or to (it changes based on your version of Windows) these files:

    • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    • C:\Users\(your Windows username) \AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Don't forget that you remove, since your PC, any other BB OS devices as packages with more than one installed on the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

You can also study the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe what he is capable.

You can also try this procedure might limit the specific causal element:

    1. Load your OS "bare bones"... If everything is optional, do not install it.
    2. If the behavior is immediately, then try another OS with step 1
    3. If the behavior does not immediately, then run for as long as necessary to make you to be sure that the behavior will not occur.
    4. Add one more thing - no matter how tempting, one.
    5. If the behavior does not immediately present, and then runs for long enough to be sure he won't have the same problem
    6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are responsible or the behavior presents

When the behavior shows up, you know the culprit... the last thing you have loaded.

If the behavior doesn't re-present, then you know that step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior has anything, then you have probably a problem of material level for which no amount of OS or software can heal.

If you are on a MAC, you are limited to only your sanctioned carriers OS packages... but can still use any level they currently have to sanction. See this procedure:

  • Hardware blackBerry Smartphones Dumb newbie question! :)

    Hi people,

I'm new in the world of the blackberry and I'm about to take the plunge with a unlocked sim-free BB Bold to use in the United Kingdom on Vodafone. I read on the differences of software between BIS and BES and would go for a set - up BIS. My dumb newbie question is equipment arrives in version BES or BIS or not?

Thanks in advance and do not hesitate to make fun of my madness

    craigdh wrote:

Good answer Xandrex. However I'm still not clear as to the issue of equipment, I asked. The reason why I am wanting to buy "BOLD" a separate contract is.

    1. it will work a little cheaper over the life of a contract.

    2. I will get my "BOLD" much faster.

3 UK networks have a reputation for crippling features in high-end etc phones then charge you more to get similar functionality via one of their services.

    4. they are very slow to provide updates of the firmware on their own brand of appliances.

There was a little insinuation in my answer: basically, you buy a mobile phone, so you get a BIS/BES contract with a carrier who takes in charge that the mobile phone. A "BOLD" can be used like BIS or BES, it depends on the company.

On the price, I'm sure the phone deal + contract is always cheaper than a "BOLD" (retail and not eBay from some guys) then a contract which is usable (that is, no GoDaddy or 0.01GBP / KB).

for the speed, you are the one who knows.

The thing of the cripping: the thing is, the updates are provided only by the suppliers (they get a barebone RIM OS, then add their stuff like facebook or AOL). Even if you buy a single "BOLD" without a contract, if you want to upgrade the regular way, you wait fot your carrier to publish the upgrade. Or you can do the regularly (which can be made with or without the purchase contract at the same time).

  • BlackBerry Smartphones has the question about GPS

I have a BB 8800 device. It is connected to a mobile phone service provider that does not support BES or BIS. In other words, I use this device as a mobile phone.

When I open Options-> Advanced Options-GPS and run the menu: "Refresh" GPS "didn't get no information from GPS (inside and outside).

There are zeros in Latitude and Longitude.

My question is: the GPS on BB8800 depends on mobile provider and my data plan?

I understand that to display the cards that I have at least GPRS-internet service enabled to access and download blackberry maps.

But I don't get any results when I simply run the GPS Options and launch refresh GPS info.

Could you please explain. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

    Thank you.

I don't know if the GPS works at all the or not depends on whether the carrier allows him. But even if they do, it can be quite risky. I have Verizon in the United States and subscribe to the GPS service. I think it's pretty good - when it works. The biggest problem is that every four or five days about it does connect to GPS in the service of Verizon GPS signals, nothing else that the error messages "can not connect", and I do the reset drill "remove the battery and let it sit for a very long time" in order to resume service. Oddly, it's going to walk very well on Google Maps in this condition, but not on the traditional GPS. Would like to know the cause, since it seems that I am still an urgent need for GPS when he chooses to do not. Four or five days everything works well, then I'm in a strange city and the need to go from the airport to the hotel - and it won't work, so I find myself in some of Mall parking lot looking at my phone and the battery if displayed on the seat next to me, waiting for some kind of magic back to happen. The good news is that the reset still seem to work. The bad news is that I thought there is no alternative to lose 20 minutes to get a good discount to zero. I'm probably two resets far from cancelling the GPS service, it's just unpredictable as to when it's going to fail. Google Maps is not really very accurate in showing you where you are, but it has its uses. We are house hunting and I find that using Google Maps, while we are looking at a beautiful House we prevented them from making a few mistakes - found some really nasty industrial plants just across a line of trees, for example. I also use it to find restaurants that are pretty close to my hotel (so the total precision is not serious) of the Decree.

It must be remembered the BlackBerryID password or secret answer to the question. Without either, you're stuck.
    Your choice is:
-Use a different e-mail account to create a new BlackBerryID (with which you will lose access to all apps purchased using the 'forgotten' first BlackBerryID, or)
-Find the initial email you have been sent to confirm the initial BlackBerryID and there are a link to click to cancel and delete the account. Click on this, delete the account and then you can use that same e-mail to create a new account.

  • Greetings from blackBerry Smartphones / BB Newbie Questions

    Hello!!

Thought I'd take the opportunity to view and asking some fundamental questions about the Apps and BB.

Apps, I would like to ask you a few tips from the community.  Just try to save time by trying different applications by asking.  I'm looking for advice for the following applications.

-GPS?  Heard of Google Navigation but it doesn't seem to work with BB.

-Calendar?  I use my BB for professional and personal

-PTF App?  Is it possible using the BB to open, edit, save files on the BB?

-BlackBerry Protect?  I've heard of her.  Thoughts?

Any other Apps that someone would suggest?

    BB issues,

-Whence an app go once removed?  Stored on my device somewhere taking up room?

-With regard to the preloaded applications (Verizon) on my BB?  Can they be deleted and if so it will cause issues on the road?

-All the Apps I should stay away from?

    Thank you

    Welcome!

-GPS?  Heard of Google Navigation but it doesn't seem to work with BB.  Maybe you say Google Maps, works very well with BlackBerry. It is a great mapping application, but does not voice turn - by turn navigation. You might like Telenav GPS for it, I use it, but it is not free.

-Calendar?  I use my BB for travelers and personal operating system native calendar is great, that it syncs with Outlook. Others use Google Calendar.

-PTF App?  Is it possible using the BB to open, edit, save files on the BB?  PDF? Your BlackBerry is open to be sent as an attachment to an email automatically to PDF files. If you save a PDF file on the press card, on the 9650, you will need a third-party app like PDFtoGo or Repligo to open and view the PDF file.

-BlackBerry Protect?  I've heard of her.  Thoughts? Very worth it. Download AppWorld and set up for daily backup at some point every day. Lifeline.

Any other Apps that someone would suggest?

Weather: Likes BerryWeather (BeWeather in AppWorld). Another beautiful app is WeatherBug.

ShowMeTheImages help really discover your HTML emails a lot simpler and easier.

There are too many apps to name, I like.

    BB issues,

-Whence an app go once removed?  Stored on my device somewhere taking up room?

If removed from the device, it went. Your download and your purchase is always archived in AppWorld, so you can install it again.

-With regard to the preloaded applications (Verizon) on my BB?  Can they be deleted and if so it will cause issues on the road?  Really, you can't remove these shortcuts to application "pushed," not very easy installation. It is simpler:

To do this: create a folder on your home screen and name it "Junk" (you can choose to be more creative the folder name ). Now, highlight each unwanted icon and press the Menu key > go to folder and move it to the folder "spam". That, for each, you don't want to do.

Now, highlight this "Junk" folder, and select Menu > hide.

Out of site, out of mind. Meanwhile, feel free to complain to Verizon or their own user forums.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Date & time incorrect in the text (UPDATED INFORMATION) messages

I don't know what happened, but when I woke up this morning all my text messages have gone on Blackberry Torch 9800. In addition, time & date to which I send or receive a text today is inncorrect, even if the time & date on my phone is correct. Can anyone help?

    8 06

OK, so I realized that my messgs were accidentally deleted the previous night, so this isn't a problem now. But my time text & still date messed up. Time & correct date on the phone. The text messgs., time on my outgoing txts is OK, but incoming texts times are off by at least 2 hours & the date shows Saturday, February 27, 2049 (today). So weird! Someone has an idea?

I went again online looking for a solution & solved my problem! I had tried to take the battery before, not helping. But found a post that suggested to delete all text messages before removing the battery. So after all the messages of compensation & remove the battery, my time & date on texts is correct. I hope this will help someone else who may have the same problem.
