BlackBerry Smartphones GPS good address app for Telus BB Storm

Nice day

Here's my problem.   I like to do a lot of road bike and hiking, when I used to have an Iphone, the google maps allowed me to follow where I was in the winderness if I could go back to civilization (even if I didn't want to ).  Now with the storm on Telus, I can't use google maps to pinpoint myself (because of the way it looks to me that it's usually about 10 km offshore).   BB card software don't do me no good because there is no satilite Imaging to help me.

What is a good GPS application of card that is usable by a person who goes off road in the desert running (Ontario Southwest & central)?  I like to take the BB with a batery extra because it serves my mp3 player and camera all in one electronic device.

Any input and any person who can provide would be most appreciated...

Thank you
Dave

Dave, Google Maps puts you about 10KM off the coast of your current location? Wow, that's a few feet for me.

This is a decent list of GPS applications. Scroll through the entire thread as the original post/list has not been updated, you will find good mentioned by the additional posts in the thread.

    Hello

    Just a quick question;

If I transfer languages, themes and applications that I don't really use offten to my MiniSD card will be able to use them because they were in my internal memory?

    Thank you!

    Hello and welcome!

On a BB, you don't have the same control on which things are installed. Apps to go only to a location when you install them, and you can't move them. I know that in WM you can choose to install the apps from the expansion card or internal memory - you have no choice in BB. The SD card is generally used for things that are really data storage (multimedia files, documents, etc.). If you have saved an original installation (.jad?) file in the internal memory, then that is indeed a data file... it created files of the application when you install and which should stay where they were installed in. only the data file (the .jad file, for example) can be moved to SD.

    Best.

Hello and welcome to the community!

I suggest that you clear the cache of the AppWorld application.

    For legacy devices (pre-BB10):

    1. open the App World

    2. go to my world

    3. follow one (and only one!) of these steps:

    3. for the BB keyboard-oriented - hold down the ALT key and press on, in the sequence R, then S, then T

3B. for touch screen only BBs - hold the num-lock (! 123 button) so that it hangs and then press on, in the sequence 3, then 4, then)

    3 c for the most recent (e, g., OS6 and 7) BB s, see this KB:

    • KB24714 How to clear the cache of BlackBerry App World

    4 AppWorld must close.

    5. If your BB locks after issuing clear cache, do a battery pull reboot

    6. return to AppWorld/MyWorld (it can be slow, while it re - sync). .

If (4) stage arrives not as described, then the empty the cache failed.

Hi and welcome to the Forums!

There are dozens of permission settings... I have no way, what said you, namely that which shows that 'Deny '...

But, if you can change that setting, then your likely BB is now or was formerly associated with a corporate BES environment, and a BES it policy is on board which is preventing access to this permission setting.

If you are currently a member of BES, then you need to talk to your admins BES to access this special permission setting.

If you are not currently associated with BES, TI latent policy was deleted not the when the BB is provided for you... and you need to remove. Please see this KB and consider very special on all the warnings about the loss of data:

Please help me

OK, I can't say enough. But I'm like described KB as a lack of policy is NOT what you have, which means that you have a COMPUTER policy on your device. It's just weird because I've never seen a COMPUTER policy like what you describe, but then of course I have not seen anyone.

So, I think (it's more than that, actually) is that you do indeed have a policy COMPUTER on your device that may well be the reason for the failure of the installation, you encounter.

If it's a working or otherwise associated with certain BES service device, then you need to talk to anyone who provides the BES service on your problem... they control what is the it policy.

If this is not a working device and/or you do not subscribe to any service of BES-level from anyone, then the conjecture is that you have received this camera as previously used, and the previous owner didn't properly clean the it policy, leaving you with a latent policy causing you these problems. To remedy this situation, you must make sure you have a full backup, according to the link in my sig auto on my posts. Then proceed you to this:

    • Article ID: KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory using BlackBerry Desktop Software Settings

Once finished, your device will be like new again, with nothing on it... No. data, no added applications, etc. If you continue to restore the backup, do not forget that you DO NOT make a simple full restore... restore instead, only those databases that you need (e.g., contacts, calendar, etc.) and more precisely to avoid any database that have nothing to do with BES, business, political, etc. If you restore that contains the it policy, it he will dutifully restore your BB and you will be right where you are now.

Hello and welcome to the community!

You must uninstall all packages of BB device software from your PC. Then, install the exact OS that this BB is running on your PC:

    • KB23393 How to check the model number and the version of the BlackBerry device software on a BlackBerry smartphone

If this OS package comes from one carrier other carrier for which your BB was built, then remove, on your PC, all copies of the SELLER. XML... There will be at least one and maybe 2, and they will be located in the same way or to (it changes based on your version of Windows) these files:

    • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    • C:\Users\(your Windows username) \AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Then, when you run the Desktop software then connect this BB, appropriate things should appear in the AppLoader screen for her (note that, if you connect that to other BB currently displayed correctly, it does display properly since the Desktop software is substituted by the installed PC, the package of BB OS).

    Good luck!

    THX

Hello and welcome to the community!

I'm sorry, but the errors you posted seem somewhat independent... so I need clarification please:

    Gbassi wrote:

Then I upgraded OS to v7.0.0.513 to 7.1.0.366-> BBM did not work

Unfortunately, "did not work" is not really diagnosable. What, exactly, have you tried? What, exactly, happened every step of what you tried?

    Gbassi wrote:

    So I drove back and re-installed 7.0->

    (1) maps: "error at startup net_rim_bb_maps: class 'net.rim.device.api.lbs.maps.ui.ManeuverFiled' not found.

    (2) BB App World must be closed

I do not see how these two errors are related to the first, you were trying to throw the maps app when it appeared? For the second, which came with the maps app? Or is separate #2 and lies somewhere in the process by using your AppWorld? Complete step by step of what you try, with a full explanation of what is happening at each stage, including the full text of all error messages, is essential to understand your situation and if all goes well to guide. Otherwise, we have to guess...

So I guess. My guess is that, once you upgrade to 7.1, you don't have to perform a few extra steps to ensure that all services were properly enabled on your BB. Here are the steps. I suggest the following, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come...) Please wait for this before moving on to the next step):

    (1) registry HRT

    • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with wireless network
    • Please wait a 'registration' message reach your Messages application

    (2) remove and return Service directories

    • KB05000 Remove the maintenance book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account in the BlackBerry smartphone
    • If you do not have access CMIME, continue deleting
    • KB02830 Send the directories for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    • Please wait "the Activation' Messages, one per already configured e-mail account, arrive in your Messages. If you have not already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

    (3) restart to take batt

    • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

I hope that will move things again for you! You can try these few points in your process... either now (on 7.0.0.513) or after you re - try to upgrade to 7.1.0.366.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones comparing memory on "BOLD" for iphone: (?)

The "BOLD" website lists: in addition to 624 MHz Intel procesor by Marvel (compared to 312 MHz), it lists flash 128 MB and 1 GB on-board memory and a slot for up to 16 GB more.

The iphone site lists: it just says 8 GB or 16 GB flash.

I do not understand the difference.  I think that the world of office in what concerns the hard drive and Ram.  I guess, but don't know, as smart phones like these use something similar to this, but given that two Web sites use exactly the same terminology I do not know how to compare.

    (1) the data above means that the iphone has much more available memory? (After all, 1 GB of flash is much more than 128 MB flash)

    (2) or maybe its apples and oranges and the 8 GB or 16 GB iphone capacity memory simply alluded without actually it indicating the location available for additional memory, so in reality is the same thing as the "BOLD"?  (But if its what so what's onboard memory iphone to compare with the 1 GB onboard memory referenced to the "BOLD"?)  And what is the comparison of the iphone for flash 128 MB?)

    (3) for the basic understanding, is the 128 MB of flash to the "BOLD" actually the RAM I think of a desktop computer, and if yes, what is the on-board memory of 1 GB?

Can someone clarify all above and in particular specify them the appropriate comparisons with the iphone and not only on the question of memory, but also what is the processor of the iphone and the speed of the processor?

Thank you.  The supposed November 4, 2008 U.S. retail release date is almost here.  I really hope that many folds referenced on this forum are addressed in this new phone.

Hello, you shouldn't think if conditions of RAM (RAM) / WORM (hard drive), but in terms of xxxx. On Blackberry devices, you have a partition for the system & applications (called "Internal memory"): it's the 128 MB on the "BOLD". On it, you hold:

    • The PIM applications: email, notes, address book, calendar, tasks and notes
    • Phone applications: SMS/MMS, browser, speech recognition
    • Third application Opera Mini, games and each application you want to download
    • the RAM as you understand it, on a computer

Then you have an additional memory card (also called Media card), 8 MB up to 32 GB, which can contain all other things: photos, videos, mp3, Office & PDF files. It is equivalent to the non-system partition.

On the iPhone, the two briefs are merged.

On the Blackberry, there is a third party application that allows to store applications on the memory card and load them onto the internal memory before using it.

It is quite difficult to compare the two:

on the iPhone, you have a powerful processor somehow, which is crippled by a lot of your operating system (it's OSX for Mobile, but always OSX). On a Blackberry, you have a CPU less powerful, but with an operating system designed for a handheld device.

On an iPhone, an application is large enough. It is very rare to find one that is less than 1 MB.

On the blackberry, it's the opposite: the applications are smaller.

On an iPhone, you can not get an application that has not been approved by Apple Inc. (unless you jailbreak your iPhone). On a blackberry, you can get any app that someone publishes. Including porn.

On an iPhone, if I want to develop an application, I have to pay a tax of $100 AppleInc; If I did not, then my application can be downloaded by jailbroken iPhones. On a Blackberry, I don't pay anything. I just publish it somewhere on the web. I'll give you a very specific example: Opera Mini is one of the most beautiful browser for mobile phones. Apple has refusedto got it publishedso no one can use it on an iPhone (except the jailbreak).

Another very concrete example: If you pay $100 and prepare your application, if Apple refuses, then you have the eyes to cry: you've lost time (and perhaps money to hire developers) and you cannot be assured that you can sell.

Another example: say, you sell an application. It is 10EUR. If the consumer is not happy with it, they can return it. In this case, he or she gets the return of 10EUR. Fine for him or her. But continues to Apple the transaction fees, which means or do not get the return 10EUR but 10EUR less standard fees from Apple (it's to a few % but I don't know how).

    the result is twofold:

on the one hand, there is a trend that everyone wants to develop for Apple

on the other side, Apple is doing everything to rot the lives of these people.

But Apple's App Store is a good idea, and Blackberry has just made an announcement about a same store for Blackberry users.

I just got a curve, so I'm not even interested in looking at the most advanced mobile devices with touch screen, but I think you should try both for real and not just look at the numbers. There are also some exclusive features to the iPhone: link to the iTunes music store and iPod it contains. and others that are exclusive to the "BOLD": stereo Bluetooth, copy/paste and total synchronization with Outlook (emails not only).

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS on any area network?

Hi, I m new with BB but I want to know something, can I use the GPS function or the WiFi features on a place that has no cell phone network signal /... for example, if a trip to another country with no active roaming?

    Thanks in advance.

GPS on blackberry requires NO wifi or data.  BlackBerry maps, google maps and most current main GPS apps for blackberry require data or wifi, but it's a limitartion of these software applications, not blackberry devices.  There are other FREE applications that DO NOT require any data plan.  Nor do even need wifi connectivity.

Google search for 'Mobile GMAPS' download the free app on your Blackberry.  It can be used completely with just your phone internal GPS and mapping files that have been downloaded to your SD card.  Or, if you want, you can use the wifi instead of data, but there is absolutely no need for any connection other than via the internal GPS device once you have maps on your SD card.  Mobile GMaps is not nearly as feature packed as GPS applications more mainstream for blackberry that currently require data plans, but hey, it's a free app and you will save data charges.

Once you have installed Mobile GMAPS on your phone, you will need to use your PC and go to www (dot) mapcacher (dot) com and create a mapping file using google, yahoo or live maps.  Just select the area of the map you want, select zoom levels 1-16, choose the amount of detail and then click on the button to begin to build your mapping file.  The file will be created in a few seconds.

You must then import this map file into an application like v0.7.2.2 gmapmaker mgmaps (dot) com/www cache (point) and install it on your pc as well. Import the mapping file into this tool and your map will be created.  There are a few different tools that can do the same thing - you can learn more about the different ones on Mobile GMAPS forums or better yet the site Crackberry - this is where I originally found the tutorial for this process.

Get the built cards is not difficult, but it may take some time depending on your broadband ISP, the size of a map that you create and the amount of detail that you put on it (zoom levels add more information and you can choose anywhere between 1-17).  Then there is also the matter of getting the map to your sd card file once it is built because there will be a lot of small image files and folders Windows PC may not like if the structure of the file is too big.

I recommend trying a few small test cards (like just your city) so you see how it works, try the different zoom levels and details.  After a few tries, you'll know how to create the perfect cards and the best files of sizes to easily copy maps on your SD card.

It is not the best tool, but it is available and it is free and can be used anywhere and anytime - as long as your GPS can find the satellites.  I imagine that there will be much progress in other programs that do the same thing, because the free service is the way to go!  I hope that the major GPS manufacturers take note and join the herd by creating SD maps for blackberry devices too (windows mobile and symbian phones have this option) or they'll be next to lose a lot of money.  Why would anyone want to use their data plan to use the GPS when it should work on its own?

The answer THEY will tell you is because it allows you to get the latest maps all the time, it's a limitation of phone blackberry that data is required.  This is total Bull * if.  The cards are always changing, but not enough to justify the cost of data each month.  Their is a lot of software SD card capable apps out there (TomTom, Garmin, Navigon, etc.), but they only work on Windows Mobile and Symbian, and because Blackberry push data, the SD versions have not been built yet.  At least with this tool, you know it is possible and can stop believing the hype of data plan.  In addition, if you want new cards, you can go out and download a new one whenever you want and copy it in your SD car.

Enjoy your free, anytime, anywhere, GPS and pass on the good news to other friends of blackberry.

  • BlackBerry smartphone how to install apps on my bb

I know it's a pretty stupid question, but I am trying to install a new app on my storm. 'S called it stormslider. Stormslider

I downloaded the file and the file type is a .jad file when I go to my bb Desktop Manager and try to add the application, it does not appear to recognize it. I opened the application loader it shows my apps that I have already installed before. But when I click on browse to click on the app it recoginzes only files with a type of file .ali .alx files. If I do something wrong? I'm so lost.

    Thank you.

There are 3 important files for installation on a BlackBerry smartphone:

    1. the *.cod file. It contains the application and the application's resources.

    2. the *.jad file, it is necessary when you install *.cod via the internet connection.

    3. the file * .alx, it is necessary when you install an application via the Desktop Manager.

So there must always be a file *.jad *.cod or a *.cod and *.alx together. When you install an application via the Desktop Manager, make sure that the *.cod and the *.alx file are in the same folder.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones why the email app is so crappy?

When I got my Storm 2 9550, I figured I'd get a handheld device with the best email built-in, because email is the root of a Blackberry service (Palm was PDA, WinMob is access to files, iPhone is media, etc.).  So how is it that the native email on this thing is the worst I've ever seen?  How can I make comments on BOARD what this user thinks he has to do (I've yet to find a "comment" or "contact us" link that does not require a support contract)?

To my email I keep messages in IMAP folder.  In order to be useful, my email on my mobile must be able to synchronize perfectly with these files.  The "Berry is not.  It is not yet fully synchronized with my Inbox.  Changes (deletions, changes of State) my Inbox in my office do not appear on the Bay.

Is it a third party customer IMAP messaging that does this?

Hello and welcome to the Forums!

To answer your question in your subject line - the question itself is subjective... it may be an unacceptable app for you, but it is acceptable to many others. Companies to make decisions about how their devices will work. Different companies make different decisions. These differences are that discriminate against one another. If someone wants an iPhone functions, then by all means they must purchase a. Choice and educated decisions are what makes life so rich for us in many ways. Sometimes we make mistakes when we make these decisions - I think you assumed that the BB would work in a way that you wanted... and yet it isn't. However, it is not IMHO a failure on rims part... they do not hide the way including their function of devices. As in all things, buyer beware...

However, if you have specific and constructive ideas for RIM, I heard they accept such email to [email protected]...

    Good luck!
