BlackBerry Smartphones GPS 'search for satellites... ". "questions about T - Mobile BB Curve 8900
My wife and I had our 8900 s for 6 months. All this time, the GPS worked so sporadically (works maybe 5% of the time) that we have renounced them. I read all the posts on almost all forums, including this one. I was on the phone with T-mobile for more than 2 hours - almost an hour of going out on my patio in 105 degree heat! After going on all of the possible settings and reboot several times, the girl has finished telling me that it must be because the trees in my yard blocked the signal. His only suggestion - call RIM. What have I learned?
1. I can't use my GPS inside to plan a trip. (roof and walls block signal)
2. I can't use my GPS in the van to get to a place. (signal blocks of metal body)
3. I can't use my GPS in a city to find an address. (buildings of great height-block signal)
4. I can't use my GPS in the mountains to keep from getting lost. (trees and mountains block signal)
5. If I am in the open field, GPS find signal about 5% of the time.
6. I can't find the phone support for us peons.
My brother, daughter, nephew, and everyone - make sure everyone - who has one phone other than a 8900 can get a signal just beside session from me. My phone: 'search for satellites... ". »
If a person tells me that I must be "outdoor" to use my GPS, I'm their Butterfly! However, if you have a constructive suggestion, I'm all ears. And before ask you, I have a data plan unlimited, and I tried with location helping the Endabled and people with disabilities.
Thank you

BlackBerry Smartphones Can I install the new os 6 on my curve 8900?
Hello
I was wondering if I can install the new os 6 on my curve 8900
and when do you think os 6 can be available for the curve - 8900 or close software it?
As much as I know the 8900 will not get a release of the OS6. RIM said, they will take it out for older devices, but as far from the 'old' goes, I think that the 9700 and Storm 2 is what they classify as "old."

Application of blackBerry Smartphones GPS Simple for hiking and fishing
Does anyone know a simple application to replace the old simple GPS devices? I already found applications that I love for directions and maps. What I'm looking for is an application that displays the longitude, latitude, direction, speed, distance, altitude, etc., without the need for internet connectivity. I would like to replace my old Magellen for trail and the use of the sin. I need to be able to set benchmarks, and then again navagate to them. Typical use is hiking or fishing (I want to mark my holes of sin in the middle of the Lake).
Thank you

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS - position On / Off
My husband gave me a curve for Christmas - what a wonderful surprise! I found this site tonight and have been check / update my options, but I have a question about the GPS option. What is the advantage (or not) to transform my GPS location WE verses uses don't not the setting. Is it a good thing?
Thank you!
-AKrubygal
Basically light location allows your GPS search of satellites in BB Maps or Google Maps or any other GPS program. If you enable location off, you're basically turn off your GPS capabiilties. Personally I have to take advantage of Google Maps and geotagging the photos I take.

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS never find any satellite
Hi all
My first blackberry and my first post - blackberrys ROCK!
Lovin my 8110, only a niggle - one of the main things I wanted this phone to was the GPS, but suspect I may have a defective hardware that the GPS never found a single satellite, looking for just indefinitely.
Google maps for example, I select 'My position', and he thinks I'm a half mile away saying "-your location at 1200 meters.» "Waiting for GPS". The GPS never answers, I guess it gets less than 1200 meters by triangulation my position over the telephone network (vodafone).
BlackBerry Maps - "Searching for satellies...» "Again, never to find!
Options-> AdvancedOptions-> GPS:
GPS data source: GPS device
GPS services: location
GPS location:
Latitude: N 0 * 0.00'
Longitude: W 0 * 0.00'
Difficulty of time: no
Number of Satellites: 0
Precision: 0.0 m
Location service: enabledMy suspicions are correct, if my phone was delivered broken?
Thanks in advance
TomTry refresshing to the Gps, go to menu, options, advanced options, gps, press menu again and refresh GPS
Don't forget, you have to stand outside to receive the satellite signal

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS on any area network?
Hi, I m new with BB but I want to know something, can I use the GPS function or the WiFi features on a place that has no cell phone network signal /... for example, if a trip to another country with no active roaming?
Thanks in advance.
GPS on blackberry requires NO wifi or data. BlackBerry maps, google maps and most current main GPS apps for blackberry require data or wifi, but it's a limitartion of these software applications, not blackberry devices. There are other FREE applications that DO NOT require any data plan. Nor do even need wifi connectivity.
Google search for 'Mobile GMAPS' download the free app on your Blackberry. It can be used completely with just your phone internal GPS and mapping files that have been downloaded to your SD card. Or, if you want, you can use the wifi instead of data, but there is absolutely no need for any connection other than via the internal GPS device once you have maps on your SD card. Mobile GMaps is not nearly as feature packed as GPS applications more mainstream for blackberry that currently require data plans, but hey, it's a free app and you will save data charges.
Once you have installed Mobile GMAPS on your phone, you will need to use your PC and go to www (dot) mapcacher (dot) com and create a mapping file using google, yahoo or live maps. Just select the area of the map you want, select zoom levels 1-16, choose the amount of detail and then click on the button to begin to build your mapping file. The file will be created in a few seconds.
You must then import this map file into an application like v0.7.2.2 gmapmaker mgmaps (dot) com/www cache (point) and install it on your pc as well. Import the mapping file into this tool and your map will be created. There are a few different tools that can do the same thing - you can learn more about the different ones on Mobile GMAPS forums or better yet the site Crackberry - this is where I originally found the tutorial for this process.
Get the built cards is not difficult, but it may take some time depending on your broadband ISP, the size of a map that you create and the amount of detail that you put on it (zoom levels add more information and you can choose anywhere between 1-17). Then there is also the matter of getting the map to your sd card file once it is built because there will be a lot of small image files and folders Windows PC may not like if the structure of the file is too big.
I recommend trying a few small test cards (like just your city) so you see how it works, try the different zoom levels and details. After a few tries, you'll know how to create the perfect cards and the best files of sizes to easily copy maps on your SD card.
It is not the best tool, but it is available and it is free and can be used anywhere and anytime - as long as your GPS can find the satellites. I imagine that there will be much progress in other programs that do the same thing, because the free service is the way to go! I hope that the major GPS manufacturers take note and join the herd by creating SD maps for blackberry devices too (windows mobile and symbian phones have this option) or they'll be next to lose a lot of money. Why would anyone want to use their data plan to use the GPS when it should work on its own?
The answer THEY will tell you is because it allows you to get the latest maps all the time, it's a limitation of phone blackberry that data is required. This is total Bull * if. The cards are always changing, but not enough to justify the cost of data each month. Their is a lot of software SD card capable apps out there (TomTom, Garmin, Navigon, etc.), but they only work on Windows Mobile and Symbian, and because Blackberry push data, the SD versions have not been built yet. At least with this tool, you know it is possible and can stop believing the hype of data plan. In addition, if you want new cards, you can go out and download a new one whenever you want and copy it in your SD car.
Enjoy your free, anytime, anywhere, GPS and pass on the good news to other friends of blackberry.

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS, the 8300 and ATT
I got my 8300 about a year previously and has waited until now to install the Garmin Mobile for Blackberry.
Cingular says it had GPS 'ability' and I thought that it meant "integrated." I paid $100 for the Garmin
Download and got the version for phones WITH GPS. Naturally he has no satellite.
It is then that I discovered that I have the 8300 and not the 8310. In addition, I had no Blackberry Maps
featured and was ready to download/install, when I noticed the statement that IT DOES NOT
ON ATT. So, now I'm here with a bad brain trying to figure out how to get out of this trouble before
I fed the rest of my money to Garmin or ATT or the PERSON, to get a less-than-perfect GPS Setup.
I could get the Bluetooth GPS receiver, someone else purchased for about $60. Garmin Mobile software
is an OF WHAT GPS with integrated phone and I noticed somewhere that it does not work for phones receive signals
a Bluetooth receiver. To stay with Garmin, I have to buy their package for about $150, which includes a
receiver and the software to go with it. Using THIS plan, buy one once, there seems to be no. $ 9.99/month
subscription to process. (I'm wrong, or am I missing something here?)
I could get the receiver for $60 as shown above and subscribe to Telenav GPS stuff that came with
My att phone. I downloaded the new maps of them today, but I am not at all impressed with their quality.
I also think that it is outrageous to pay the subscription of $9.99 / month to something I have trouble reading.
Then... I guess I wonder if I should cut my losses here and go get the Garmin Nuvi that someone else
has said was excellent for car navigation? I like really use my 8300 for everything and have GPS it would sweep. But I don't know if I combine a GPS system on the phone that he would give me the configuration of navigation that I would.
There you have it. Opinions and advice are appreciated. BJ
"One thing that made me hesitate to go to the BlueTooth receiver was the suspicion that he has not used the satellites, but uses rather server signals, or receiving cell tower." "I ordered the receiver Globalsat BT BlueTooth - 359C last weekend; I'll let you know how it works. »
.
.
It works very well... and really uses satellites. With Blackberry Maps, the dashboard for the navigation shows the speed you're going on the left, the right direction and a satellite icon in the middle with a number, which I guess is the strength of the signal. The unit works as well for the location with Google maps, too. Note: the key to the Bluetooth passcode is 0000.

BlackBerry Smartphones wipe data for curve 8900
Hi, I'm new on using a BB. They keys are unresponsive and the telephone company, said a replacement will be sent within one week. My problem is I want to "destroy" all data from my camera. I tried to make the software upgrade and support phone order, but he did not do anything. I don't want to just not all phone numbers, SMS and emails sent with the unit.
Can someone help me with this.
Thank you
SiPusa
OK... so it's planned...
The following procedure deletes all data, or all data and applications on the BlackBerry smartphone. Back up the data before you perform the procedure. For instructions, see KB12487.
1. connect the BlackBerry smartphone to PC computer.
2. open start-> programs-> Accessories-> command prompt.
3. navigate to C:\Program Files\Common search in Motion\Apploader.
4. type loader.exe /resettofactory. -
How can BlackBerry Smartphones GPS on 8310 I get the card?
Can someone please tell me how to get the cards and use them on my 8310 as a gps travel card. I use very often and that you don't really want to pay for them.
I saw a discussion on free google maps.
Help, please
Ash
Hi and welcome to the forums!
Google maps is a free application that uses the GPS and triangulation via cell towers. If your GPS is enabled it can be very accurate. If your gps does not find a satellite, Gmaps will be triangulate your position within 3,000 metres.
The cards are excellent, provide traffic, both in turn. Satellite image shows as well. Allows to search for the company and displays the phone number and address. You can click on the number to call.
Again, it is free, so you can lower the load and try it.

Let me know if this helps or if you need more help!

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS does not work
I have a 8330 and the GPS does not work. I have Blackberry Maps and Google Maps, each says are looking for satellite units trying to find where I am. Alltel tech support said I have to pay $9.99 per month for telenav, but I hope that this is not correct because I was told THAT GPS was on the phone when I bought it 3 weeks ago.

BlackBerry Smartphones GPS location (Lat/Lon/elevation)
Although I love the GPS on my BB, it's a pain when I'm in the boonies (or travelling by train in southern Pennsylvania) where there is no phone coverage... and not downloadable maps. However, I have the
paper cards (remember of them?). Y at - it a BB app that will give me the Lat / Lon of the satellite? Thank you all...
FCC
Yes, there is an app available on b berry app world I use that should meet your needs. Search under gps and search for blackstar it has a compass and lat & long and altitude however I recommend that you start the application before making the train as he cannot lock on satellite units if the signal is reduced by the construction of the railway (thick roof or glass etc) car and the app is free hope this helps you

Greetings
I recently had the pleasure to develop on the Blackberry 9700 for my work, and it was a happy experience. I have several questions about the Blacberry and its future directions:
Y there or there is already (or planned) for the blackberry with sensor functionality more?
Y there or there is already (or planned) to have blackberry specialized for medical diagnosis?
(I know this is a crazy idea, but with portable scanners and identifiers of available portable bacteria, it could be an interesting feature)...
More specifically, it would be interesting that some of the features of Blacberry could include one or more of the following sensors:
-Altimeter
-Magnetometer
-Thermometer
-Accelerometer
-Barometer
-Hygrometer
-Photometer
-Rangefinder / Distance finder
-Light meter
-Sound level meter
-Dosimeter (radiation)
-MRI mobile (technology is not ready yet however)I know that my ideas may seem crazy, but I think that these types of portable devices will exist eventually on the market one day, and I just wanted to give people to Blackberry a few ideas!
PS: I have a technical training in electronics, with some years of experience, so my idea is probably less crazy than you think!
I hope that we will one day these types of devices!

BlackBerry smartphones download modules for device software 5.0 stops
During the update process modules are downloaded, but this process stops at "downlaoding module 682 847. After some time (5 minutes) an error message: try again later might help again. But I tried now for about two weeks.
What can be the problem and how to solve?
The software can be downloaded in a single package and installed from the laptop?
Hello
I recommend the software downloaded directly from your carrier's Web site and install it directly on your computer. http://bbry.lv/cp57Eb
Be sure to save before continuing: http://bbry.lv/945DGc
Then I advise to use the application loader to reload the software on your BlackBerry smartphone. It is located in C:\Program Files\Common Research In Motion\Apploader.
Make sure that the BlackBerry smartphone is connected directly to the computer, if a laptop computer and plugged in the back if a desktop computer.
Thank you
