bookmarks.HTML makes very differently in FireFox 4

For years, I have been using and loving Firefox (including 4.0).

For years, I have also exported my bookmarks on Firefox and use the file bookmarks.html as my home page.

Now, Firefox 4 restores the file bookmarks.html very differently from previous versions of Firefox and other browsers also differently (for example, IE).

The indentations disappeared when viewing bookmarks.html in Firefox 4. Unfortunately, it is not really easy to show you this within this forum text box, but I'll try.

Firefox 4 shows something like this:

Bookmarks menu

General interest

Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
The Weather Network - Markham
The Weather Channel - Markham
AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center

... etc.

Firefox 3.6, IE and other browsers show something like this (note the indentations that greatly improve readability):

Bookmarks menu

     General Interest
           Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
           The Weather Network - Markham
           The Weather Channel - Markham
           AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center
           ... etc

Is this a bug in Firefox 4? I would really like to see bookmarks.html rendered with the indentations.

Am I missing something?
Thank you.

You can add this CSS code in the HTML file below the line with the meta tag, or use the copy method shown above by stormseye

<style type="text/css" >
dl > dt > dl {
 margin-left: 40px;
}
</style>

  • Why is there no "show all bookmarks" in my bookmarks in Firefox 3.6.28 - AS you SAY in how export to Bookmarks.html?

    I followed the instructions on how to export my favorites Firefox to a Bookmarks.html
    BUT it does not display all bookmarks in my bookmarks menu. I don't understand. I have Firefox 3.6.28.

    I'm stuck without my favorites from Firefox on my new iMac OS 10.8.

    The name could be different in 3.6.28. Do you have something in the menu bookmarks, which refers to the Organization of bookmarks? You can also try the combination of keys Cmd + Shift + b to see if that works.

  • How can I get Firefox to create bookmarks.html whenever I have add a bookmark?

    I do it daily backup all user files that have been changed. I would like to register my favorites in this backup. I can't save my cache and other user settings.

    You can make Firefox 3 create a backup automatic HTML (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox, if you set the pref browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML true on the subject: config page.

    The backup is created by default in the profile folder bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and the path through the pref browser.bookmarks.file on the topic: config page.

    This pref does not exist by default, and you may need to create a new pref browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML string and set the value to the full path of the file backup bookmarks.

    Note: an HTML backup preserves tags and annotations, to lose them if you need to import the backup HTML.

  • Hello, I just reinstalled Firefox 8.0 and imported my backup bookmarks.html file, but the bookmarks toolbar has not changed with my old favorites. Is this a problem or I have to manually add each bookmark again?

    don't know what details to tell you, that all important data are written in the question. Thank you.

    You have now two folders of Bookmarks Toolbar. One of the installation of Firefox (the main one) and a 2nd file to import a bookmarks.html file.

    Find the Bookmarks Toolbar folder that is under the bookmarks Menu folder and copy or drag ' drop these bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder that is above the bookmarks Menu folder.

    In Firefox 4, 'Organize bookmarks' has been renamed to "show all bookmarks". It evokes the same bookmarks library.

  • Cannot open file bookmarks html into a Tablet Toshiba Encore 2 with Windows 8.1

    I have transfer bookmarks firefox to my Windows XP desktop on my Windows 7 laptop on a monthly basis without problem. However, my Windows XP Favorites won't open in my Tablet Toshiba Encore 2 running Windows 8.1. Firefox on the Tablet is a full program download, not an app otherwise, firefox run great on the tablet in point 8.1 of Windows. An error message "script" which includes the word "chrome" is displayed, but I don't think that the Toshiba Encore 2 is a chrome system. I tried the import and export html and also tried the backup and restore with the json file. No method worked.

    Here's the correct answer:
    When the "script" error appears, check the box 'Don't ask me' and select 'continue '. This is necessary because the "script" error will appear over and over again. Put aside the Tablet and wait because the large importation of a bookmark.html file is very slow, but bookmarks appear subsequently.
    In addition, the Tablet has a keyboard that has no ALT, CTRL and function key and many others to the touch screen. Therefore, bookmarks can not be sorted unless you get a bluetooth mouse to use the essential function of the right mouse to select "spell" and a full function of bluetooth keyboard.

  • differences in the use of a backup Favorites file ".json" and a file of bookmarks '.html '.

    Hi all
    What is the difference between the use of a backup Favorites file ".json" and a file of bookmarks ".html"? It seems that both of them do the same job. If this is the case, then why there are two options (.json and .html) to do the same job? If this isn't the case, then what is the reason for the availability of the two options and how are they different? Although I read the material, it didn't quite clear form me again. Please be so kind enough to elaborate on the question so that I can get a clear understanding of their good use (s).

    That may be a problem with the DDE.

    Try to undo and redo Firefox as default browser.

    Make a different browser like IE browser by default and then let Firefox do it again.

    How can I import bookmarks from Chrome (old system) in Mozilla (new system)?

    Chrome Bookmarks Manager allows you to export the Favorites to an HTML file. If you type "chrome://bookmarks" in the address bar of Chrome and take a look under the "Organize" menu you will find the option.

    Once you have the HTML file, you can import it into Firefox on any system. Open the Firefox bookmarks library and look for the option 'Import Bookmarks HTML'.

  • Bookmarks.html will not import

    After spending hours removing #$% 'Do research' my computer Firefox gave strange results so I decided to completely reinstall a clean copy. I exported my favorites to bookmarks.html to the desktop, as suggested. Totally deleted Firefox - downloaded a copy clean and reinstalled. When I try to import the html file, nothing happens. I followed the instructions in the help page. Still nothing-Nada-Nix. There is no indication that something is happening at all.

    Import didn't used to use the Unsorted Bookmarks folder at all. The support article may need to be updated, or maybe it's a bug.

  • FF22 and prefs.js custom installation, bookmarks.html and override.ini FF23 does not

    Try to customize the installation of FF22 or FF23 for business environment.

    I have done this several times with several previous versions. FF19 and 20 being the latest versions of success, it worked. (I wasn't 21).

    All I ever had to do was to extract the FF setup.exe and add three files. Then run setup.exe - ms to perform the custom installation. None of these files have changed for some time.

    core\override.ini
    core\defaults\profile\prefs.js
    core\defaults\bookmarks.html

    With FF23 and FF22, none of these changes work not at all. What has changed and how to fix it? Or is it a bug that needs added to Bugzilla?

    TIA for any help.

  • Scroll smoothly makes very slow scrolling

    Since the version 15 (I think), the functionality of scrolling smoothly in Firefox makes very slow scrolling. Before that it was a much faster way. With the scroll wheel makes it easy to just go up or down a page, it is smooth, but terribly slow. With smooth scrolling turned off, it is all back to normal speed (as in Windows Explorer, but also in Internet explore when scrolling is quite normal speed). Downside with people with disabilities, of course it's all more jerky now.
    All the drivers are up to date. Everything where I scrolling is not serious, the normal speed. Only Firefox is way to slow down with scrolling when Smooth Scrolling is enabled.

    Is it possible to change the speed of scrolling with active smooth scrolling?

    Well, did some experiments and found a setting in everything: config that makes Smooth Scrolling fast and smooth: look in: config for mousewheel.min_line_scroll_amount. By default, which has a value of 5. I changed only in 50 and now smooth scrolling looks and feels like before.

  • Recently restructured PC. Tried to import bookmarks HTML, but nothing happens. Tried other browsers, still does not work. How can I fix?

    Before reformat my PC, I exported all my favorites via the HTML file. I reformatted, installed Firefox, then attempted to import all my favorites. I go to the import function and choose the bookmarks HTML file and nothing happens at all. I tried to use other browsers for import, but nothing happens. I don't know how to solve this problem.

    I thought that maybe I could transfer the HTML file in a JSON file, but I couldn't find a way to do it, even after it is renamed file extensions. The HTML file may possibly be corrupt? I'm running out of ideas on how to do to import my favorites!

    I really need to solve this problem, please help!

    I managed to fix it.

    (1) I opened the HTML file with notepad.
    (2) I then went to file > save as >

      -Then changed the file type to, "All Types"

    (3) then in file name I named it Bookmarks.JSON

      -The HTML file now saved as a JSON backup and I was able to import it.

    However,.

    There is still no patch or reason to explain why the backup HTML does not. I strongly suggest you Firefox fix, as it was highly agitation.

    When I start a new search of yahoo tab comes when I start a new search yahoo tab comes and I don't want that. How to make a different website to open?

    You need to understand what you installed that changed this action to Yahoo on a blank tab, which is the default action in Firefox; and then get rid of this add-on. Then you can install an add-on that allows you to select what you want in the new tab.

  • export bookmarks.html files

    In Firefox 5 on the export of HTML files, two unnecessary items are included for each entry in the web page; namely, < TD > < A HREF = "http://www...". "ICON_URI ="... favicon.ico "ICON =" data: image / png; " Base64,... < /A >

    These two elements (ICON_URI and ICON) this adds considerably the storage size of the bookmarks.html file that keeps growing wider.

    These two elements are not necessary in my opinion. "" Please remove these two items: ICON_URI = "... favicon.ico" icon = "data: image / png;" Base64, of the bookmarks.html file structure; or at least give an option to include in the exported HTML file or not.

    Fixed moderator code then it will show

    You can remove these attributes with this bookmarklet, if you open the HTML file in Firefox via file > open a file.

    javascript:(function(){ var ls=document.getElementsByTagName('A'),l,i; for (var i=0; l=ls[i]; i++) {l.removeAttribute('ICON'); l.removeAttribute('ICON_URI');} alert('Cleanup Complete - Save as Web Page, Complete')})();
