boot.ini Collectors Edition

Why was my first tutor so interested in making points on the boot.ini file. ? 1999. even now, after 13 years, I continue to look to save her and sometimes change to try to understand how this small file has a great impact on the startup of the operating system. I always remember him NT2000 started the A: drive with this small file on the floppy disk. He was so proud of how he had dual boot systems and everything seemed to depend on this small file. even now, I think on the partitions and have often created many different variants on HDDs over the years. The perfect balance is something I want to achieve. often coming through the Interior on FAT FAT32 NTFS issues and the timing of all these events regarding product release dates, and if it was important to know when we had the FAT and NORTON. On NTFS it seems you cannot increase the 8000 MB NORTON has NEED OF MASSIVE FILE ACTIVITY TRACK EVENTS. I have so uninstall and start again. I could talk all day on me experiences during the last 13years more which would probably fall on the deaf ears and not really say anything, since most people just give up and buy the next best thing. I just get the feeling there is some true die hards out there waiting for a miracle to happen and let them through in the NEXT GENERATION 32/64 PENT 4 AND beyond. David.

  • Satellite P200 - 17 c - Vista won't start up - how replace/repair boot.ini

    Hello

I have a Toshiba P200 - 17 c of the vista computer and it won't start, freezes on the splash screen. I have
used iso image to boot from and ran repair disk, makes no difference.
Machine will not get beyond microsoft loading page (with yellowish scroll bar).

My question is: How can I replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.

I have not (my fault) create a back up or restore disk.
After booting the machine from cd, system repair running and try to run the system restore doesn't work...

Can anyone advise on a way to replace/repair boot.ini or turn off the drivers?

Try to avoid to pay another £30 pounds for a recovery disc that I already paid for the licensed software, don't know why.
If you pay because you do not get a copy of Vista with machine...

Anyway any help would be most appreciated.

    > How to replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.
I doubt that this could be done under Vista cannot modify the boot.ini as on Win XP OS.
To edit the boot.ini file you must use the BCDEDIT command.
However, I put t think it would start the Vista correctly.

    In my opinion you have two options;
You can use the safe mode and might attempt to start the Vista slim or you have to reinstall the entire operating system yet.
But I doubt you'll be able to start in safe mode if the system repair and system restore didn't work too.

So in my opinion the last real solution could be the new facility.

  • Invalid Boot.INI message at startup

After changing the battery CMOS, I get an invalid "boot.ini" message at startup.  Any suggestions?

It is not sensible that results change the CMOS tossed in this message, but you can understand the problem and fix it.

In a single partition configuration, XP doesn't have even a boot.ini file to start.  If missing the file XP will complain but always starts very well without one.

If you see a message like this:

    Invalid BOOT. INI file
    Booting from C:\windows\

This means generally that the c:\boot.ini file can be completely absent (for some reason any).

Miss the file would require a little extra work, since it is normally a hidden system, read-only file, but I can think of many things that is happy to remove it for you.

If the system is working properly, what do you think happened to the system since the last time, he did not work properly?

You now, or have you had the "Ask Toolbar" installed on your system?

You have now or have you ever used third-party applications on your system where the product description includes descriptive as sentences:

cleaner, mechanic, detective, doctor, heal, optimize, Inspector, clean, tune up, speed up, fix up, compact, compress, faster, power, boost, boost, gum, muncher. one click fix, new, intuitive, errors, stop crashes, stop errors, improves, allows you to save money, risk free, guaranteed or any third-party program that has an icon that looks like a gear, pinion, belt holder, key, key, screwdriver or plunging arrows?

After the contents of your boot.ini file so that we can see it and help fix you that.  If the file is missing, you can create a new one.

    Here's how:

From your desktop, right-click my computer, choose Properties, and in the startup and Recovery Section, click settings.

Starting the system section, click on Edit and who will open Notepad on your boot.ini file.

Type Ctrl + A to select/highlight all the text, type Ctrl + C to copy the selected text in the Windows Clipboard, then in your next reply here, type Ctrl + V to paste the text from the Clipboard into your next reply.

What you paste into your next reply might look like this:

    [boot loader]
    timeout = 30
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

Click the red X to close Notepad, etc.  When you are finished.

  • error starting: "invalid boot.ini file" Windows XP will then continue to start

All of a sudden a couple of weeks, my XP computer displays a black screen 'invalid boot.ini file' message, "Now booting from a disk C:" or something to that effect.  After that, it continues to boot normally.  Previously, he asked me if I wanted to hit F2 or F8, but this isn't any longer.

So far, it was not a major issue.  I'm just curious as to what might have caused it and if there is anything I should do about it.  Thank you

You will see a message like this if missing the c:\boot.ini file.

In a single partition configuration XP, XP doesn't have even a c:\boot.ini file to start.  XP will complain to this topic, but again start very well.

Use the Wunders statement (especially latter) to edit/create/difficulty a new file c:\boot.ini if yours is missing, then restart.  He lack the onus once again, there is something wrong.  Some third-party programs (such as the Ask toolbar) allows you to delete the c:\boot.ini on each reboot (and other things), but reportedly they sets.

  • Windows xp pro sp3 will not start corrupted boot.ini and hal.dll - please help

I installed Norton 360 offred via internet was last updated.  It immediately launched all applications previously disabled at STARTUP in msconfig.  And shortly after he started to gives me the blue screen "to the death".  This done in two days, and I was desperately trying to solve the problem by turning off almost all applications critical to running Windows XP Pro SP3, Norton and Office 2007 Home and student.  I even went and tried to edit the Boot.ini file in startup and recovery under the Advanced tab in the workstation properties.  Now all I get is an error message Windows cannot start because the hal.dll file is missing or damaged.  I replaced it by copying a modified version of the boot sequence, while the hard drive of my laptop was enslaved to my desktp PC, but nothing helped.  I can't even the Recovery Console to start on my laptop.  I need HELP, please.

These profile errors are usually caused by one of the following:

1-profile corruption.  The user profile is damaged and that Windows cannot load.  To resolve this issue, create a new user profile and move your files to the new profile.   See here for more information:

How to copy data from a corrupted to a new profile in Windows XP user profile

2 drives or corruption of the file system.  Run chkdks /f on the volume C:.  Please note that there is ALWAYS a risk of data loss when chkdsk is run on a volume, ideally, you should have a backup of your files before running chkdsk.

3 - virus or malware activity.  Some of these parasites can revoke your permissions on the folder of your profile, check the permissions on "C:\Documents and Settings\Andre" and make sure you have a full control on the folder.  Check this box until you try #1 or 2 above.

Some of these parasites can also revoke your permissions in key areas of the registry and create real Dany on the machine that can prevent you to run some of your software.  Use Regedit to load your old profile hive (NTUSER. (DAT) in your profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Andre\NTUSER. (DAT) and make sure you have full control over the key.  In the advanced security settings to ensure that the child objects are inherit permissions from the parent and put a check mark on "replace entries permissions for all child objects...". "Click on apply and OK your way out.  See here for easy to follow instructions for loading and editing of remote registry hives: http://www.rwin.ch/xp-live/regedit.htm make sure you unload the hive when you're done, otherwise the changes will not be saved.

These parasites can also revoke permission on the other key of registry and system files, you can use SubInACL to restore your permissions on these key objects, see here for more information:

    Ideas:

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages

The easiest way is to edit the boot.ini through Control Panel > switch to Classic view > system > advanced. Click settings under Startup and recovery. Now the button Edit under system startup.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 - invalid boot.ini file message at boot

    Hello

    Don't know where to start.
I want to just run Office 2003 from my Satellite Pro. Had problems with the HDD so I decided to format using the recovery discs.

Now, when I start the machine initially I get the following message: * invalid boot.ini file. Starting from c:\windows.*
After a minute or so, the following message appears. * missing or corrupted system32.hal.dll file *.

Any ideas how to fix this please?

    Hello

Looks like the laptop cannot start the Windows operating system and a few files damaged or are missing.
In your case, I would try to reinstall new OS.
Format the whole HARD drive and try again.

If the second installation does not help, then a HARD drive should be checked may be that you need a replacement.

    Welcome them

  • Impossible to rebuild the boot.ini

I have a computer infected by the virus from system tools. I was about to make the procedure of McAfee to clean off when I met the msg of bad boot.ini with:

    \system32\hall.dll
I see that this is a problem common - and followed the instructions to start Windows Recovery, go to the repair and try to rebuild the boot.ini file. But it does not work.
bootcfg/list gives: there is currently none available to show the startup entries
bootcfg /Scan research yields: error: failure of analysis facilities of Windows disks successfully. This error can be caused by a corrupted... FileSystem etc.
CHKDSK gives: the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.
    Help, please.

I hope that you are able to solve the problem. However, to be perfectly honest, I think that the hard drive is done. I could be wrong, and it would not be the first time.

  • XP pro do not start after changing the Boot.ini file

The problem is that my C: partition Windows 7
    D: has XP Pro

These should be considered right resp. partitions 1 and 2?

I wanted to first XP pro to start the default partition.

A few days ago, I made a change to the boot.ini file. But since XP Pro was not starting at all.

I tried XP Pro to start first that the default partition.

Given that XP Pro and my D: drive have not been starting, I consulted the boot.ini file in C:, Windows 7 partition and I changed the order (i.e. partition No.) in the boot.ini file and saved it to the required location, i.e. D:/WINDOWS/pss.
through my drive C: of work, i.e. the partition of Windows 7, but it still does not work because apparently even though I save here, the actual values and the paths of the partition are not actually be changed on the system. I confirmed this by going into the CMD shell switching to D: and by running the command D: > bootcfg.
Apparently any values I save in the boot.ini file that I save as a text file or "All files" in D:/WINDOWS/pss/it does not actually change in the system because whenever I run the command bootfg values are remaining still and not able to be changed, because apparently it is not saved in XP Pro and the D : partition. No matter what I do and what I put in the boot.ini file to access the values through the windows 7 partition, the values that bootcfg returns me are always the same and he refuses to change the name of path or anything else. No matter what orders, I also put in bootcfg himself.

These are the values that bootcfg gives me:
    default: multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS

    Boot entries:
    Boot entry ID: 1
Friendly name of operating system: MS Windows XP Professional
    Path: multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS
The operating system load options: / noexecute = OPTIN/FASTDETECT/usepmtimer

My XP Pro partition is simply not booting, and it of my main partition and has all my work. It is imperative that it starts.

My Windows CD is also not start because apparently my DVD drive does not work properly, I had the anti malware threatfire (ThreatFire) installed on my XP D:Windows program disk but have uninstalled just in case it was blocking my changes to the system.

On C:Win7, I put the default operating system option in the Advanced tab for Win7 and the D:XP Pro to XP Pro, when he was the starter and work. Now I can only access my files D:XP Pro Player C:Win7. But XP is not just start. What shd - I do? Thks.

I don't have a very practical windows CD but my CD/DVD drive is not read and does not properly.

Looks like your original post stated that your cd/dvd does not work.

Respectfully, you will continue these hap hazard patches and your computer will not start at all. I'll try to help you once again. Please follow closely.

Start your computer by loading Windows 7. Click HERE and download EasyBCD. Install the software in trial version. Once installation is complete open EasyBCD. You will see an interface like the image below. Click Add a new entry.

A new screen appears as in the image below. Use the drop down menu to select Windows NT / 2 k/XP / 2 k 3 as described below. Type the name of the operating system in the box below. Of course, it will be Windows Xp (you can add the home or Pro to the name if you want). Make sure now that there is a check mark in the box "automatically detect the correct player. Once you have completed these steps click on 'add an entry '. That's all! You are finished. If all goes well, and if you have followed these steps carefully, there, now you have a system dual boot.

You can now start working on your cd/dvd problem.
