• Need digital pen for Portege M200

  Hello Toshiba Forums!

  I lost my * digital pen * for * Portege M200 * so now I have the opportunity to buy another.

  My question is: What pens (from companies) agree and works perfectly with the Portege M200?

  I am interested to buy Wacom, Fuji or any other pen, including the original but I still have a few problems:

  1. I can't buy anything more expensive than $75

  2. it is rather difficult to find something except Wacom since I live in Israel (there is only one shop of Toshiba and I'm not sure they have the original pen for M200).

• New hard drive installed on Portege M200 but does not start

  I upgraded the hard drive in my Portege M200 from 4 GB to 80 GB using Parted Magic to clone the original disc. Cloning complete successfully, but instead of starting with the new drive, the M200 simply display a blinking cursor when turned on. Any help is very appreciated.

  Maybe you can try one of the below to solve your problem:

  BUT! ALWAYS keep a backup!

  Boot the system with a flexible BACK (with fdisk.exe inside) to restore the MBR by typing

  FDISK/MBR

  This works even on a SATA drive. Start alternative all Win2k or XP installation CD, go to the console command and issure of recovery

  FIXMBR

• Portege Z930-118 does not recognize the external USB CD/DVD drive

  My new Z930-118, with windows 7 64 bit home, does not recognize the external CD/DVD drive when I plug it into the USB port.

  The CD/DVD device does not even appear at all in Device Manager.

  The reader is a SE-S084 Samsun and works well on another laptop.

  I already checked for the "upper_filter", "lower_filter" with the regedit, but entries are not there, so no help.

  I m not very well how to help you.

  I found some information about this WEIRD disc and it seems that he didn't need an external power supply. Its USB bus powered so I guess around 500mA power since it is the default value provided by a USB 2.0 port.

  I don t think that there is a problem of missing software. It is a plug n play device so you need to connect it to the USB port and the system should automatically recognise.

  From my point of view of the few you try to connect the external USB ODD two ports to aid a * Y * Cableusb.
  I think the reader needs more power provided by a single USB port.

  The ODD driver is part of the Windows operating system.
  Windows uses the common Microsoft driver and so there is no driver on the Toshiba page.

  But why would you install this driver?
  Isn t the CD/DVD drive listed in Device Manager?

  I try to install Windows 7 Home Premium with a USB 2.0 with the placed using Rufus .iso image file. -Sha1 hash is checked if the .iso image file is not corrupted and I get the infamous error of necessary the CD/DVD driver.   Motherboard is MSI Z170A Gaming m5, trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 on SSD, but it won't let me even go beyond the section missing drivers. Extremely frustrating.

  What I ended up doing was turn off all other bootable devices on my bios and install an MSI tool called win 7 smart tool that installed the drivers on my USB in case children, everyone has the same problem. I do not know how fix it actually since I applied two patches at the same time, but I guess that's the thing about the pilot.

  My computer does not recognize the CD drive.  It is a new machine (a Lenovo H535, if this is important) and I managed to install software immediately, but he has not worked since.  When I went through a troubleshooting (Windows 8), it tells me the driver needs to be reinstalled (matshita dvd - ram sw830, in the case where aid), however, if I update the driver, it does not.  I don't know this driver online, to try to reinstall from scratch.  I tried looking at Lenovo drivers or useful information website, but I'm not having any luck.

  So, is there a way to fix this driver?  Or where can I find a replacement driver?

  To make this all a little extra fun, I'm brand new on Windows 8 (jump directly from XP, with superficial relationships on Vista of my grandmother), so I'm having a devil of a time trying to find my way on this thing.  (Translation: all aid should be gradual for this noob Windows 8)

  This is a really silly situation. I have no such media, but maybe you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. Maybe they have this CD.
  I put t have much experience with the tablet PC, but up to what you expect you should try installing WXP Professional and all offered drivers Toshiba, tools and utilities.

  Does anyone know about a cheap substitute that should not necessarily be the Toshiba?

  I don't want to do a SSD hard drive, as this laptop is old enough, and the cost for the ssd would not depreciate in the next years.

  In my opinion it's the wrong opinion. Using SSD increase you the performance of laptop computer s quickly and were very quick machine. One day if you do not want to use this laptop, you can remove the SSD and put old HDD inside. SSD can be used on the new machine.

  Last year I've improved my 4 years old P500 with SSD and I m very happy with it. The price was only 149 Euros. It's OK price. Change the HARD drive is not complicated and you can do it alone.

  Sorry but I don't understand the problem you have.

  On the Toshiba support page you can find all the things you need for Vista on Portege M200. Very important is to install the package of added value to the beginning because all important Toshiba designed stuff is there, of course including TOSHIBA components common driver.

  In my opinion there is no need of any updates but the order of good facilities. Have you maybe update the BIOS before installing Vista?

  I read here in the forum about upgrade the HDD on Portege M200 and the guy has updated the 160 GB HARD drive.
  So I guess you could improve the 320 GB HARD drive as well.

  You need a 2.5 IDE HDD and it s any speed would support the HARD drive.

  Try disabling secure boot in the BIOS too.
  Then connect the CD/DVD from the laptop drive and switch on the device.
  Press F12 and choose from the menu to boot from the USB device

• DvD - external rom for Portege 3500

  I recently acquired a Portege 3500 as well as an external DVD-ROM from Toshiba (model No. PA3246U-1DVD). As I try to find the drivers for this I failed horribly (for the dvd - rom). It is connected via a CardBus card. Toshiba says that drivers should be part of Windows but my system is unable to find them. I was wondering if anyone here had drivers for the Portege 3500 for it. If I'm not mistaken, they should be for PCMCIA adapters. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

  * Note: retailers say the ships of external Toshiba DVD-ROM with cd contain the manuals and drivers. If anyone has a copy or could direct me to a site with them it would be greatly appreciated as well.
