"BOOTMGR is Missing", but no disc.

My father read an email when the screen froze.  He began to close and when he turned it on, come "BOOTMGR is missing".  He says that it's XP, but it doesn't have the original startup disk.  Can anyone help?

Hi, Astrombe,

Method 4: Using Startup Repair on a computer that has a preinstalled on your computer recovery option

Important: This method is available only if the Startup Repair tool is a preinstalled on your computer recovery option:

If you do not have a disc of Windows 7 or Windows Vista, and Startup Repair is a recovery preinstalled on your computer option, follow these steps to repair the startup files:

  1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer by using the power button on the computer.

-If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you must try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

-If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

  2. In the display Advanced Startup Options , use the arrow keys to select repair your computerand press enter. (If your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer doesn't understand no repair preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has disabled the.)
  3. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
  4. Select a user name and the password and click OK.
  5. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem and, if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.

So, I hold the F8 key at startup, go into System Recovery Options and choose to do a restore complete system, back to the factory settings.

This whole process would have been a million times easier if Toshiba had indeed issued an installation with the system disk.

Anyone know how to get into WinRE on a Toshiba Sattelite?

    Hello

You didn t get the Vista disc and the Toshiba recovery disc.
Your laptop has been pre-installed with the Vista operating system and there was an option that allows you to recovery unit using the option of HARD drive recovery
There was also a preinstalled tool called creator Toshiba recovery disc.
This tool could be used to create a clean recovery disk.

But the fact is that if you want to repair the Vista Boot Manager, so you should use ONLY the MS Vista original disc and not the recovery disc.
MS Vista disc would repair the Boot Manager and the recovery disk would be to format the whole HARD drive and reinstall everything again

    That's the big difference.

    Hey,.

    > There was no CD that came with my computer, but I did a backup of the recovery discs when I turned on the laptop out of the area initially first although these discs do nothing?
This means that you have created the use Toshiba recovery media creator Toshiba Recovery disk or what did you do exactly?

This bootmgr error message means that the Windows Boot Manager is corrupt and that's why you need to reinstall Windows. You can do this with Toshiba Recovery disk which can restore the original settings of the case.

All you have to do is boot from the recovery disk and follow the instructions on the screen. All drivers and tools will be installed automatically.

  • Compaq 6510 b: bootmgr is missing and I don't have a CD/USB

    Hello

My HP Compaq 6510 b has been infected by the virus of defense crypto. I searched like crazy and could not find any solution and decided to sacrifice my photos and videos. But turned out even restore the laptop is not easily possible. AFAIK, the laptop is Vista but Windows 7, when I open it. So, after much research I found someone who said I should type collection in the area of research manager and allows to restore the laptop but unfortunately that does not exist in the laptop so I looked for something else and found out that by right-clicking on the computer that I can go to manage and then active partition and tried to restart. And then it happened, he showed "bootmgr is missing, press ctrl, alt and del to restart" so I did, but the same screen appears.

I searched online again and said I need a cd of Vista or Windows 7, but I don't have that. They also said that it is the only way to fix the laptop. So now I'm out of options and hoping someone here can help me.

Is there anyway I can fix this without the CD and restore my laptop to its original settings? Or can I restart my laptop without the bootmgr thing missing attachment?

Really need help with this and your help will be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to the answers.

    Hello

    Try the following.

If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7.  Download the ISO relevant among the links below - if you are not sure, first try the 64 bit version.

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Windows 7 64 bit

You must use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options) to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.

When creating, type following the ESC key as soon as you start the launch of the laptop Boot Menu, and then insert the rescue CD.  Select boot options (usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

Select the "Repair your computer" option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run the Startup Repair - you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

If the above does not help, take note of any error message you get during the procedure and include them with your next post.

  • Satellite C660 - 10 d - Bootmgr is missing

    Hello

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C660 - 10 d for my birthday in August and was a little disappointed to find that it did not include the Windows 7 disc - instead, I found a "Recovery" partition to use if there is a problem. Another disappointment was to find the 500 GB hard drive, I thought I was getting was actually about 360 GB - him remains apparently partitioned for "recovery."

After a few months use, I decided to check the recovery option and found it was inaccessible (press F8 at startup just didn't work). Scouting around the ' net has found another option (I think it was something like ESC at boot 0 upwards), but that no longer works.

I should have taken this "thing" back at the shop at the time, but it was a mile 10 return and an injury prevented me from driving. In any case, I decided to make my own backup with Acronis (which has been a life saver on my desktop PC).

Main installation takes 3 DvDs and the "Recovery" partition went on another DvD. In hindsight, I should have backed up to a spare USB hard drive - it would have been faster.

In any case, law of Sod, a few months later and I had to do a reinstall from the Acronis backup and, while everything seemed to install OK, now I just get the dreaded message BOOTMGR IS MISSING. Scanning of the hard drive shows that the installation of Windows is there, but it does not start.

Scouting around the ' net came only upward with suggestions that involved using the installation disk that I had not been given. I don't understand the logic of backup 20 p for a DvD disc, containing a 140Gb (HSI) of a hard disk instead.

I tried various other suggestions to fix the MBR (including the FDISK. EXE/MBR) but nothing works. I even borrowed Win7 and Vista set install disks to friends, look for the file "bootrec.exe" illusory the claim of Microsoft would solve the problem, but it does not appear to be. I've skimmed through various assignments here, but nothing seems to fit my situation.

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Harry

P.S. at the suggestion of a friend I just installed Ubuntu Linux and that works OK! Why is it working OK and not my backup Windows?

    > I bought a Toshiba Satellite C660 - 10 d for my birthday in August and was a little disappointed to find that it did not include the Windows 7 disc - instead, I found a "Recovery" partition to use if there is a problem

The user manual provides information that you can create own recovery disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba recover Media Creator. So apart from HARD drive recovery, then recovery disc could be used too.

If its always recommended to create a pick it up Toshiba drive in case something bad would happen to the recovery of HARD drive or the HARD drive itself

Bootmgr is missing could be solved by the new facility.
Wither away if you use a floppy from Win 7 Microsoft and would install the drivers that can be downloaded from the page of European driver of Toshiba or you will here order the recovery disk:

I know it s not expensive: about 30

BOOTMNG is missing error is displayed because the installation of the OS was not successful.

Try to boot from the recovery disc once more, perhaps you will be able to install the operating system.
If this isn't the case, you must check if the HARD drive is OK. For this, you can use a tool called Drive Fitness Test. This s free software which would test the HARD drive.

If the HARD drive is ok and you still can't install the OS by using the new recovery disc, then it means the recovery disk is defective. In this case, you will need to replace this drive.

It s your fault if you didn't create a clean recovery disk.

On the Toshiba laptop, you will find a Toshiba Recovery disk creator tool that allows you to create the own recovery disk.
But if you are not able to boot into the OS, so you cannot create this disc.

    Check if you can start the recovery of HARD drive option;
You must press F8 immediately after the laptop by pressing the power button.
Then, you should get a menu and should choose the first option called fix my computer.

But if this menu does not appear, then you will not be able to start the HARD drive recovery and that means you must order a recovery disc to make it work again.

  • BOOTMGR is missing: no installation or recovery disk!

    Hello.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.

I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings, but the Recovery Manager would not work. When I click on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right click on computer > manage > Disk Manager and made the recovery partition active. When I restarted the computer it has started to show:
    BOOTMGR is missing
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
Of course, brings us to the same message after restarting the computer you. I can't access the F8 button. F10 only works (Bios). I do not have a recovery or installation CD because it came not with the laptop when I bought it.
Is there anyway that I can change the active partition in drive C, this deactivation of the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access Disk Manager cmd window, but I do not know how to access since the key F8 does not work (makes just a bipping sound when you press on)?
I'm also abroad so cannot send my laptop to HP for fixed it. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

Scroll down the page and get > Bootable CD ISO and > ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd, a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here. Once created, boot from it and allows you to change the active partition.

    Hello

If you created the backup restore disc complete by using Windows backup and restore, you try to perform the system restore. If you have not created backup disk using restore option, I suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer to restore Windows vista.

Warning: When you use a Windows complete PC backup image to restore your computer, it is a complete restoration. You cannot choose to restore individual items and all of your current programs, Control Panel, and the files are overwritten. You must regularly back up your files by using the back up files Wizard.

  • BOOTMGR is missing Vista X 32

    Hi all

My PC is running Windows Vista X 32. I have 2 drives installed with three partitions.

    Disk 0 = drive (C :) and road (e :)) (two partitions)))

    Disc 1 disc (d :)) =

Drive (C :) = initialization, file of the Active Page, Crash Dump, primary Partition (as shown in the title of the computer management))

Drive (d) = system, active, primary Partition (as shown in the title of the computer management)

Drive (E :) = Primary Partition (as shown in the title of the computer management)

Drive (C :) has EVERYTHING on it Windows, batch files stored.)

Now that above drive (d) shows that the system (a single partition drive), this disc is empty and I want to replace it with a drive high capacity (currently sitting on my desk).  Not knowing any better I removed that drive and installed the new drive (woohoo additional storage space), but alas when I tried to start the PC, the message "bootmgr is missing" displayed.

Using the bios, I changed the order in which readers were consulted to boot from the disk (c), it did not work.  The same error message appeared.  So I have since returned the old drive and changed the boot order in the bios to previous settings.

I rechecked and the only file located on drive (D :) is 'BOOTSECT. BAK' there is no hidden files or folders.

My question is how can I change my PC to recognize the drive (C :) as the system in order to remove and replace the drive (d :))?  If all else fails I end up with the formidable task of reinstalling Vista.

    Thanks in advance

    Struck dumb

    Hello

Since D: has been nominated as player of the [System], you need to fix it by starting with the Vista disk and do a Startup Repair on C: to rewrite it. D: does not need to be reinstalled to do, nor is it important or not there is in fact nothing about it. Because he proceeds to this designation, the boot sequence stops when he cannot locate.

If your system has been preinstalled and you do not have a disk, you can use something like this:http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
