C:\CI.dll boot critical file is corrupt

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 64-bit OS pre-installed. A backup copy of the system is stored on the hard drive. I have a 32-bit Windows 7 DVD - ROM, but if I install this I will lose all data on the hard drive, including 64-bit Windows 7 and its backup.
Unfortunately I seem to have a virus that has corrupted the file critical boot C:\CIdll when I turn on the computer, trying to solve the problem, load files but then says he can fix it. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore to last good configuration, but nothing works: I just picked up on the Startup Repair attempt. (I am currently using a borrowed laptop) When I read the diagnosis he basically said it is unable to determine the cause of the problem, but at some point, he said that the critical boot file C:\CIdll is corrupt.
I tried the Windows seven Forums but nothing works - I can't do a repair installation without a 64-bit installation disc and even if I was able to follow the steps described in "how to recover a loop infinitely Startup Repair loop without having to reinstall windows" it didn't work.

The only thing I can do is go to the command prompt in the System Recovery Options. can anyoneguide me through a solution there please?
Maggie

Hi and thanks for the answers. System Restore did not work from the command prompt, but following the advice on another forum I could download a Linux operating system - Ubuntu - borrowed laptop, to help and then burn it to cd and load from the cd of my laptop. Then I could access all my Windows documents, photos and music and copy to a portable hard drive (no, I had not saved recently!). Fortunately, the laptop borrowed is also a Toshiba running 64-bit Windows 7, so Iwas able to burn DVDs of recovery from that and then restore the entire operating system from the DVD. I had also tried to burn a borrowed laptop computer rescue cd and running, but it does not pick up the virus.

A lesson learned the hard way!

    Any solution for this please?

    Hi saisinga,

This error messages are usually caused due to the failure or corruption of files of drivers on the computer.

I would first check if you are able to boot in safe mode.

Start your computer in safe mode
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If you are unable to boot into safe mode then I suggest that you try a startup repair using the vista installation disk and check.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disk, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

    1. Insert the installation disc.
    2. restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.
    3. If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
    4. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    5. click on repair your computer.
    6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    7. in the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair.

Check out the link for more information below.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/how-do-I-fix-a-boot-startup-problem

If restarting fails then try a system restore using the windows vista installation disc.

To use the Windows recovery environment, you must have the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc. To start the Windows recovery environment, follow these steps:
1 put the installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
    2. press a key when you are prompted.
Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions
    3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard method or entry , and then click Next.
    4. click on repair your computer
    5. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click System Restore to restore the operating system to the restore point that was created when the program or the driver has been installed.

Looks like the laptop cannot start the Windows operating system and a few files damaged or are missing.
In your case, I would try to reinstall new OS.
Format the whole HARD drive and try again.

If the second installation does not help, then a HARD drive should be checked may be that you need a replacement.

When you check the paths in the boot.ini file, and the recovery console is installed, you will always get an error message indicating that the startup path is not valid.

If the recovery console is actually corrupted just to uninstall, you can reinstall or burn a cd with the recovery console.

go here for instructions on deleting the recovery console.

Here's how to make a bootable xp recovery console cd

    Courtesy of JoseIbarra

You need start by booting in XP using a CD Recovery Console, you can do (no XP media required) and run a chkdsk with error correction command enough times until it is clean and if it does not, you can create a new boot.ini file (this is usually one of two things).

    Here's how:

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget what you have (no XP media required).

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    RC. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/?p=8    (courtesy of Daavee)

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient. If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    ===============

    as for the other problems:

    did you use Registry cleaners?

    These can damage your system

You seem to be free of infection, it would seem that a part of your process cleaning has removed a necessary file.

    ===============

Checkdisk with parameter/r should be run. and run it again until there is no error.

    Hi CHERYLBARTLETT,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. What is the exact file name that is damaged on your computer?
    3. You receive an error message while accessing the MSN using the desktop icon?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

When I got to the last step where it says "Complete the Installation", it gave me an error message telling me that the "Windows.old" file is corrupted. I do not have wright the rest of the information down, but he told me to run the check disk utility. (I think it has been shown as chkdsk). I clicked 'OK' and the screen went black and stayed like that for an hour. I turned off the computer and repeat all the steps but always goes to the black screen and stops. I tried to use the fix and it found a problem immediately and that fixed it, but after reboot, same thing. Yesterday I ran again the repair option, and it still works today. All night and nothing. She is still ongoing as I type this message. My question is how to run disk utility to check without an operating system installed? Use the "Diagnostic" option when I boot the disk from Dell? Any ideas on how I can get reinstalled Vista?

    Hello

    1. What is the full/exact error message?
    2. When you receive this error message?

    Follow the steps.

    Method 1
Start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists, if the question does not persist then perform the clean boot and check if the problem resolves.

    Step 1
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. Please click the below mentioned link.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2
Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After you have performed the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow step 7 the link to start the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Perform the virus scan and make sure that your computer is virus-free.

    Method 2:
    Run Microsoft Online Scanner.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Important: When performing analysis on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when parsing tent repair this sector if all available on which data can be lost.

Also, make sure that you have the latest update of the software antivirus installed on your computer, so that it works correctly.

Also run a scan complete with Microsoft Security Essentials, check out the link.

  • R610 SAS6IR with SSD RAID 1 file system Corruption

Hi all!  I worked on a recurring problem with some Dell R610 servers upgraded with the ruhnning controller SAS6IR a pair of Kingston SSD 256 GB in a RAID1 configuration.  I have 5 of these servers and are all identical and all have the same issue, this is why I'm leaning - point anyway - more than a question of settings rather than material because I swapped around the servers as well as SSDS them has tested in a R710 and the question arises in all R610s but the 710 using the same disks is not the issue.

Yes, on the real problem: corruption after being shut down the system of files and shut down by the operating system - not power failure or power button.

I tried to use Ubuntu Linux, RHEL7, Windows Server 2 k 8 and I saw the question in the O/Ss Linux but not Windows - same XenServer worked perfectly after a weekend 4 days, which lends to thinking me it is on Linux.  All appears well in the main bios and 6IR as much as all the disks/RAID volumes and run diagnostics on readers shows that they are all in good health.  I can install and reboot until the cows come home, home and there is no problem.  But when I shut down the system completely (this is a test environment and not yet in in production environment) using the option to stop the operating system and with elegance stops the system and turning off the power, but not to disconnect the supply plug/UPS when I turn back - usually after be closed from one day to the next, but also did the same an hour or similarly - messages just fine and starts the boot sequence.  The matrix RAID and Volume is found, and the operating system starts the startup.  It was then that the system will come to a prompt instead of the graphical interface or will stop with an error of file system corruption saying there are some deleted inodes.  I am trying to download the Dell Diagnostic DVD and let's see what he comes up with, but this issue has been frustrating me for almost 2 months now that I struggle to find what is the cause.

Any additional information required, please let me know.  Thank you in advance.

    Scott

I discovered that it was indeed the RAID controllers in the R610.  The particular version of the PERC 6 was not compatible with the Ubuntu kernel and it managed the SSD correctly.  After their replacement by the PERC 6 / i with backup battery, all that survived a weekend stop.  Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

The study guide covers the fact that when a critical file is damaged or lost, the proceedings will end. The critical files listed are: all copies of the controlfile, a data file that belongs to the SYSTEM table, a data file which is part of the current tablespace undo.

    As said here's the quote:

Some of the files are important. Damage to a critical file means that the database instance will end if it is open and cannot be reopened until the damage is repaired.

    [...]

Practically the moment where that the damage occurs, the instance will end. As always, first reaction of the DBA to an instance crashed should be to attempt a start. It will fail in NOMOUNT mode, with an error message appropriate. The alert log will show what controlfile copy is missing and also - in the section list of parameters to initialize default - controlfile how many copies there are actually is and where they are.

A self-test at the end of the chapter, it is:

    1. loss of these files will cause a database open failed? (Choose all good answers.)

    A. a controlfile multiplex

    B. A multiplexed log file online

    C. a multiplexed log file archive

    D. an undo tablespace datafile asset

    E. a tablespace temporary assets tempfile

    F. Since the SYSAUX tablespace data file

    G. a file of data space of SYSTEM tables

    H. a data file containing the user's critical data

    [...]

    Answer:

    1. A, D and G. damage to any copy controlfile put an end to the proceedings, as damage to critical tablespaces: SYSTEM and break current tablespace.

So, under the 11.2.0.3 when I delete or corrupt a control file copy, the instance is not crashing and the database continue to work. Alerts log is only regularly notifynig controlfile missing:

    Fri Aug 30 10:16:02 2013

    Errors in the /u01/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/ocp1/ocp1/trace/ocp1_m000_26767.trc file:

ORA-00210: could not open the specified control file

    ORA-00202: control file: ' / u01/app/oracle/oradata/ocp1/control03.ctl'

ORA-27041: could not open the file

Linux-x86_64 error: 2: no such file or directory

    Additional information: 3

    I'm not really knowledge.

I have to stick to what is said in the book or the experienced facts?

    Thank you

    Bruno

The information contained in the Guide of the exam are not correct as written.  The Oracle instance would end on the loss of a single control file.  Oracle documentation on the management of the control files is here:

    Management of control files

It says: "If a control file is damaged due to a disk failure, the associated instance should be stopped. Once the drive is repaired, damaged control file can be restored using the intact copy of the control of the other disk file and the instance can be restarted. »

"Stop" means that the instance has become unstable.  Unstable case act differently depending on the situation this way, the book is not (cannot) document the specific behavior that may occur.  While the loss of a control file means that the DBA should be abandoned to the instance, it is a very different thing from the instance to the destination of its own.

The ultimate source is always the Oracle documentation. I checked the page of errata for this book to McGraw-Hill.  I only see an extra.  Submit this to them and get your name on the page as a contributor.

  • MP3 link does not open a Web site using Ubuntu 14.04, window saying the file is corrupted, but it works other NVO computers very well and worked on this computer using

Ubuntu 12.04 and upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 and now trying to open an MP3 audio on a Web site that used to work, now I get an error message indicating that the file is corrupted. Using the Firefox browser which is updated. What now? The file opens correctly in Documents with VLC Player.

Don't worry about this. You are today, ask questions.
Someday, you'll be the one who gives the answers.

Once you are sure that the problem has disappeared, please report
your last post as solved problem.

    Good luck.
