To retrieve these files, you can use the windows repair console, which can be entered by pressing the F8 key before the windows operating system starts.
Will take you to a list where you repair or somehow mode called option.

If this does not work, you can try using recovery media.

  • OK to remove c:\windows\system32\uiautomationcore.dll to solve the CTD of Flight Simulator?

A large number of users of Microsoft Flight Simulator in Windows 7 seems to be having the same problem, which crashes to desktop. In the thread following the removal of c:\windows\system32\uiautomationcore.dll has been proposed as the "solution" to this problem: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproappcompat/thread/fb1808ff-92f0-478b-9826-f2ed6fbeae97

Assuming that it is indeed the case, is it possible with impunity? (or at least with acceptable suffer, keep in mind that a lot of people have invested a lot of time and efford - and money - in Flight Simulator).

You can rename it, and if you have any problems, then name again.

No, the c:\windows\system32\uiautomationcore.dll is part of Windows and should not be deleted or modified.

I appreciate it. However its seems that various people (many?) removed, and their system keeps going (and still works for Microsoft Flight Simulator), so this is appararently not essential. The consequence of not removing no seems to be not being able to use an application that you may have bought the computer to use in the first place. I hope that a response with a nuance more is possible.

  • duplicates wuauclt.exe & c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll (need both?)

    Hello
I am running xp pro sp3 with MSE (v. 1.77.1038.0). I had CATrust AV until a few weeks ago. I'm on a domain network. We have not required WU to run all the time.

I have issues with wuauclt.exe slow down my computer. All of a sudden, I hear the beginning of the computer running through the process and everything slows down. (5 minutes to open an email of 5 KB)

I * think * my problem is that there are 2 versions of wuauclt.exe & c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll on my computer. They appear as wuauclt.exe and wuauclt1.exe.  wuauclt1.exe and c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll files are version 5.8.0.2469.

Running the MSE analysis does not turn to the top of any spyware. I tried just to remove the old version, but they appear immediately as if the registry grows this version instead.

After reviewing the record, I see that everything related to Microsoft.Update.AutoUpdate has two entrances:
    That is to say
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.update.AutoUpdate
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.update.AutoUpdate.1

Could this be the thing slow down my machine? If this is not the case, what would it be? If so how can I get rid of the duplicates offending (and shocking!)?
    Thank you
    Ian

I can assure you that Windows uses only the wuauclt.exe file now and it is quite normal to find a copy of wuauclt1.exe in %windows%\System32 <=this> .

It is quite normal to find wuauclt.exe in the Task Manager. Processes tab shortly after starting your computer and so he can be executed for 10 to 20 minutes later (especially if Microsoft Update [1] is your source of default update).

That being said, the current automatic updates of running in the background has not such a detrimental effect on performance (e.g., 5 minutes to open an email 5 KB) when it is executed, unless the computer is low on resources (low power).

See if the boot minimum technical troubleshooting help you nail that other background process could contribute to the slowdown.

  • c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll - update error 646

I continue to wear on one of my two machines updates failed code 646 for the Office updates. I have questions about c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll versions (and other related files apparently). I have Windows Update set to check and let me decide. I have maintained security using workaround to manually
    Download.

On my desk for c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll, the version is 7.3.7600.16385. This machine is a Dell Inspiron (put into operation in July 2009) with Windows 7 HP 32 (update Vista HP 32 recently), Intel and Office Professional 2003. Properties show that the file has been
created, modified and accessed July 17, 2009. This machine has never had any failure of an update.

On the laptop (Compaq V6508AU) HP version c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll is 7.4.7600.226 - Vista HP 32 (put into operation in September 2007), AMD and Office Professional 2003.  Created and consulted on October 4, 2009, amended August 7, 2009. This machine
a constant codes 646 failure for the Office updates in October, November and December, i.e. after creation and consulted on date.

Is the version on the laptop of the cause of the update error 646? Why the desktop version are previous to the laptop?

I'm just guessing that this problem could be linked to the MSOcache or a related Office registry error only.

Maybe the uninstallation and reinstallation of Office isn't enough (sometimes it was not in the past).

You mention WSUS that is not Windows Update Agent. WSUS is completely different from system update.

Maybe to a certain stage why some have the problem with 646 with office and others are not clearly will some time in the future. At the moment we have only the work around, which is annoying but works.
