Can I have Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Pro on two separate drives on the same computer? There will be some activation problems?

Disc XP Home and XP Pro drive on the same computer

I have a HP computer that came loaded with XP Home.  I have to use my hard drive XP Pro for things work related.  The work computer was a lease and discounts.  I tried putting the Pro drive in an envelope and use as external, but some files are not able to access.  Also tried to remove the XP Home computer disc and put the XP Pro drive in its place, but the system unbootable.  Can I leave the House in 'master' player and put the Pro drive as a "slave", or they will be incompatible?

Thank you!!

You can add the disk with Xp Pro as a slave. You may need to change the jumper settings. However, you cannot take a drive with an operating system that has been installed on another computer and start to the new computer. In 15 years of computer technology I couldn't do it only once and it was with a Vista operating system. However, Windows is designed to not allow that.

The most likely reason that you are denied access to the files on the disk with Pro is that you will need to take ownership of the files.

I have an older hard drive and a new on my computer, I installed windows over before hard disk, I bought another hd.

You can't, it would be considered separate licenses and cause problems of product activation.

What you need to do, is keep Windows 7 installed on a single disc and create a backup of your system on an external hard drive to backup:

    Hello

    1. did you have backed up your data before attempting to reinstall Windows?
    2. do you have other devices connected to your computer outside of the mouse and keyboard?

If so, I suggest that you remove any external devices, then try reinstalling Windows.

  • Reinstall Windows 7 on a different drive on the same computer - related issue of the license

A license Windows 7 partners question

Can I reinstall Windows 7 on a drive different than where I did the initial installation? I have to cancel registration of the software because the initial installation? If so, how this is done? I have to follow a special procedure for the installation of system 7 on the hot spare?

    The reason for my situation

I decided to upgrade the operating system of my laptop Toshiba Windows XP to Windows 7. As it was my first time, I decided to buy a HDD replacement so that I'd be able to do a clean install of Windows 7 without compromising my data and programs on the old disk. That went well, but the data and previously installed programs that I had used for the years remained in the hard disk which has been deleted.

Now, I would replace the new hard drive (on which I have installed Windows 7) with the original hard disk (which contains Wndows XP and all my data, all my programs). With that done, I would like to perform an installation upgrade of Windows 7 (on Windows XP). In order to make a second installation on another hard drive (but the same work) what I should do to meet the legal installation MS for Windows 7?

    Please let me know.

    Thank you

In addition, there is no installation upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP.

Yes, thank you. I missed that he had 'upgrade '.

You must perform a new installation and reinstall your programs.

It's the best thing to do, but the 'must' is too strong a Word. Allow me to
mention the alternative (although I do not recommend to do so): make a
two-step upgrade - first upgrade XP to Vista, and Vista upgrade for
    Windows 7.

I do not recommend because it doubles the risk of problems. But one
while back I've tasted, to check that it worked, and I got lucky
enough to have any resulting problems.

  • can I reset an administrator password with a reset disk created on a standard account on the same computer?

I forgot my password to administrstor. I have a reset disk, but it was created under the standard account on the same computer and for some reason that I have problems to use it to reset the administrator password. I am able to do?

No, the password reset disks only helps with the account, they were made on [otherwise any user could reset the admin password & enter this account].

There are some things you can try in the PDF Password Reset Disk step by step Guide to http://www.itknowledge24.com/ but you may not be able to solve the problem without reinstall Windows & lose the current contents of the disc.

I have a computer that came with a Vista 32 bit OEM base HP and I upgraded to the retail of Windows 7 Home Premium on my old 320 GB hard drive.

  • Is it possible to use express Airport and Time Capsule both as two Wifi-repeaters at the same time?

    Hello

I have a time Capsule from the airport. I use it for my back ups and he repeats my wifi in the House (bottom).

Now I need a Repeater wifi upstairs. I think to buy Airport Express. I will connect the Airport express with a Lan connection on the floor. And then I would also have wifi on the floor.

But is it possible to use the time Capsule Airport express airport and at the same time: two repeaters-wifi?

    1. I have a Fritz! Box router / wifi (we called wifi Fritz! box)

    2. I have a time Capsule airport / wifi Repeater (we called the turtle wifi)

3 and now I want Airport express on the floor for the wifi upstairs (another name for this wifi?)

    Is this possible?

Before I had used TP-link (in socket), but it works for a few months.

Thank you for your help and advice.

    2. I have a time Capsule airport / wifi Repeater (we called the turtle wifi)

I think that your terminology wrong... the TC cannot work as a Repeater in the Frtiz.

I think that you have done is connect via ethernet and run it as wireless... or WAP Access Point. It is perfectly great way to do it.

3 and now I want Airport express on the floor for the wifi upstairs (another name for this wifi?)

This is connected by ethernet, then it will work fine... you can call it Expresswifi

You are certainly going to clutter the wireless channels, you could so be interesting rather than auto setting fastenings.

2.4 ghz has been set to 1, TC 6 and 11 Express then Frtiz.

5 GHz is less of a problem... auto should be fine, because the beach is mediocre.

  • Windows experience index for two different laptops with the same configuration of maximum output power

[I have two almost identical laptops Lenovo T61p and running W7 64 Ultimate b: has] has an Intel T7700 processor and 8 GB of RAM. [B] has a CPU of Intel T8300 with 4 GB of RAM. They are clocked at 2.6 GHz and have identical hard drives.

When the system is running Windows Experience Index, it does to 2.6 GHz. It doesn't matter what is the result.

When the system B runs the WEI, it becomes 780 MHz. In the end, he will return to run at 2.6 GHz. Needless to say that it will reduce its index to I / 2 of the other system. During any normal operation, the processor remains a 2.6 GHz

All other values of the indices are similar and irrelevant.

As far as I checked, the two system has the same configuration of power to maximum performance, I did not miss something. MSCONFIG are also identical.

Any ideas about where to look to fix this behavior?

    See you soon

    Rolando

WEI is a meaningless number that does not reflect anything in reality.  You win nothing in this hunt.  Because it is a useless number, that it has been deleted in windows 8

  • How can I transfer files from a hard drive on a second hard drive on the same computer

My 150 G hard drive is full - I installed a second drive hard 150 G and need to download my original hard drive

First of all, note that "Download" isn't really an appropriate word.

Moving files from one disk to the other does not differ from moving from one folder to another folder on the same drive. There are several ways to do so. The two most common are:

    1. copy / paste

    2. open the source and destination in two instances of Windows Explorer (or my computer) and drag and drop from one to the other.
