Can I install a new version of Windows to place one not boot Windows 7 on a Dell laptop?

Looking for a way to use a laptop computer that has a non-working Windows 7 OS on it.

You could, but why not just use the recovery factory feature or try to repair the installation?

If you are unable to boot from the Windows 7 Desktop, you will not be able to do an upgrade of the repair.

To access the system recovery environment in Windows 7, simply start your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system. Press the [F8] key function 8 on your keyboard which will launch the menu Advanced Boot Options. You will see a new option "Repair your computer", select this option and press 'Enter' on your keyboard.

    Hello ricardoaleman

The system only comes with XP. HP does not offer Windows 7 as an option and is not likely to have the drivers for it. You can run the Windows Upgrade Advisor, but is not 100% because it will test for contradictory app and hardware that is capable of running. If it passes it still may not work due to lack of driver of the manufacturing support.
  • My windows update will not install the new version of windows update, I get the error code 80070020 on a 64-bit vista SP2

My windows update to install a new version of windows update says it acts like it will download and install it then gives me the error code 80070020 and says that my computer is unable to download or install new updates or new version of the windows update. I have a 64-bit windows vista SP2 and my avira antivirus program that has a real-time protection. I tried to do a clean boot upward and tried every possible tip I found on the Microsoft and through suggested methods help panel, I found. My computer has Avira Antivirus that has real time protection I deleted and tried without that somewhere because he said it could be antivirus programs that include real-time protection. Does anyone have advice good?

    Hello

    1. What are the troubleshooting steps correct you did to fix the problem?

2 did you a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

I would say allowing you to run the FIXIT from the link provided and check if it helps.

You receive error 0 x 80070020 when you use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site to install the updates

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/883825

You can also try the manual steps and check.

If you follow the manual steps to start the computer in a clean boot state, remember to start the computer in normal mode after you have completed troubleshooting.

Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7, mentioned in the article to start the computer to a normal startup.

Note: It is possible that some data could be removed if infections are detected.

Hope this helps and keep us posted.

  • keep the old activation key after installing a new version of windows - no upgrade!

I bought a new laptop with pre installed Win8. I used a new drive to win 8 teacher with activation key to improve the system.
I was not satisfied with winning 8 and used a new version of Win 7 prof to install on the laptop.
After security issues I want to install Win 7 Ultimate with a new available activation key - it so no need to reinstall, its enough to change the activation key.
All OS - Windows 8 Pro, Win 7 teacher have been activated on the same notebook, what happens with these keys after using a new key for ultimate?
How can I save my unused keys for later use? There is a lot of money has evolved with these SW!

I have not found an answer on Microsoft, my being sites I need to call Microsoft technical support by phone.

    Thanks to the community

I explained as well for you!

System operating licenses in detail, that you buy and install yourself, is authorized to transfer to another machine.

But retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

If you clean the hard drive and take the operating system/product at retail a key machine, you can reinstall the license of retail on another machine and reactivate.

  • How can I install an older version of Calendar Creator Plus on a new Windows 7 PC?

I have Calendar Creator Plus Version 2 for Windows, which worked well on Windows XP. When I try to install it on my new Windows 7 PC, I get a message that it is incompatble. Is it possible to install it? If not, can I get a new version which will accept the data file that contains many years of my old program calendar information?

You have the latest version of the software? Some earlier programs may not work in Windows 7.

If this is not the case, check with the manufacturer of Calendar Creator Plus program if they have updates to update or fixes for the software.

Windows 7 Compatibility Center check the compatibility of the programs:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

    Troubleshoot Compatibility

This can help with some (but not all) programs:

    (1) uninstall the program, if it is already installed. Then when install you / reinstall instead of double click on the Setup file, right click and select 'resolve compatibility issues.

    (2) then click on 'Try recommended settings' and in the next window, click on "Start the Program" to install it.

    (3) after he set up see if it works properly. Note: some programs are perhaps not able to run in windows 7.

    Another Option - XP Mode

If you have Windows 7 Professional/ultimate, you can download and install Windows XP Mode. XP Mode is a virtual XP installation that runs 32-bit inside Windows 7. It is similar to a normal installation of XP, with a few exceptions closely: only uses a processor single-core has access to the USB and serial ports, DVD access is read-only, limited to 16-bit graphics (3D games don't play well). It will allow to install programs, most (but not all) that used to install in Windows 7, but has worked with previous versions.

    XP Mode home page:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Virtual-PC/default.aspx

Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/install-and-use-Windows-XP-mode-in-Windows-7

If your computer does not support virtualization there is an update that will allow XP Mode run without virtualisation. You can check if your PC hardware does not support virtualization and updating needs to download and run this tool:

    http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=163321

If you must enable hardware virtualization on your computer:

    1. reboot your computer and enter the BIOS settings.

    2. search for the setting of virtualization in the BIOS and enable it.

    3. save the BIOS settings and restart your computer.

Anytime Upgrade to use XP Mode of purchase (if you don't have Windows 7 Professional/ultimate)

Type of upgrade Express in the box files and research programs in the start menu and click the Windows Anytime Upgrade.  From there, you can purchase a full Express of Windows 7 Professional Edition-upgrade. Then you can enter your Express Upgrade product key and perform a simple upgrade to Windows 7 Professional Edition-full. All programs and files will remain on the computer, there is no drive necessary and it takes about 10 minutes.
