Additional info: next removed songs, no cloud icon shows until I get the error message and then click Cancel, as explained above. Subsequently, the cloud icon appears, the song is playing and is subsequently available to play.

  I think it should download them one album at a time.  I think remember me what happens to me. Album search, and then click Download to iCloud next to the title of the album.  It doesn't take too long.
