can I safely delete older service packs or updates of my hard drive to free up space?

Removing updates or service packs would be quite wise. You would be without all the security improvements and other things that they have provided.

In addition, they take only a small amount of space. If this space is important to you, there is only one real solution: replace your drive with a bigger.

  • Installation of Windows XP Service pack 2 on a new hard drive

I have a Dell Precision 380 and intend to install a new hard drive.  The new hard drive will be the same mark and the same size as the original hard drive that came from Dell in the computer.  It will be a Seagate 160 GB.  I have the disk of Windows XP Operating System installation Dell provided with the computer (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD for reinstallation). It is a SATA hard drive.

After I install the new hard drive that is not partitioned or formatted, I intend to load the operating system in the same way I reformatted the original hard drive in the past.  When I reformatted the hard drive in the past, I started by pressing F12 and follow instructions on the screen and had no problems with the installation.  Everything was fine.

Now my question is the same procedure will work with the new hard disk that is not partitioned or formatted.  When I press F12, I take you through the same procedure as before?  Will be the operating system as it is installed on the new hard drive partition and format the hard disc, as he asks me questions during installation?  Will I need to do something else or simply follow the installer as it appears on the screen?  I should be grateful if you would help or advice.

    Hi cbcenterplus,

Its good to hear about this issue with the system has been resolved to your satisfaction. If you have any questions in the future do not hesitate to contact.

  • Can I safely delete my original my iMac Lightroom catalog if I now use more recent versions on an external drive?

When I started using Lightroom, I installed it on my iMac - so I have the original and also Lightroom 2, 4 and 5 on this drive, and I always started Lightroom from the icon in the dock.  For the past year or so I start and work from a copy on an external hard drive, so I think it's the current version of my catalogs.

Can I safely delete previous versions of Lightroom from my computer (I am currently free space).

Can I reinstall Lightroom software directly on the external drive and then even that remove it from the computer - because I assume that the external drive refers to the LR-5 on the computer in order to open?

    Mac OSX 10.7.5

    5 Lightroom

    Hello

You can remove the old version of the Lightroom from your computer. Make sure that your catalog of work is safe.

You can directly install Lightroom on the external hard drive, but adobe does not recommend that.

    Thank you

  • Can I safely delete the D partition on the HARD drive?

Second question: my laptop came with the HD in two partitions, C and d is there a purpose for this and I can easily (safely) delete the D partition?

You can do what you want and you can create a partition but HARD DISK with two partitions has since. All important data, you can save the second one (D). If something is wrong with the operating system you can install it at any time on the partition c. on this way, all your data will still be there.

The delivered use recovery media, you can use the configuration option and select installation on already created the C partition.

I recommend you leave him with two partitions.

  • How can I reinstall windows 7 service pack manually?

I did not disable my antivirus when the service pack has been installed and the installation failed.  Directly after that I received several popups error like 'psdrsdll', 'ifxtssresdll' and 'spursdll '.  I guess I just redue the service pack to update but cannot figure out how to make Windows 7 take again the update and try again.  If someone has the solution please advise?

A brief search indicates the .dll files, you mentioned are often removed by some registry cleaners. Have you run a registry cleaner at this time?

  • Service packs, security updates, and the performance of the PC

First turn off let me say that I am certainly NOT too computer savvy... I know my way around, but do not know what things to say or do... That being said... My computer runs very slowly, even though I have downloaded MSE, clean space disk and Defrag... I was looking on my installed programs, and I have SO MANY service packs and security updates! (1) how security updates day and service packs? (2) they occupy space and make my computer run slower? (3) is it OK to delete the service packs and security updates

1 - security patches close security holes that have been found or improve security in some way. Service Packs are large infrequent updates that contain a selection of 'wound' of many previous updates as well as adding features/features additional.

2 & 3 - Microsoft/Windows updates take little space, but not a huge amount. However, given their importance and usefulness, I highly recommend that you leave alone, and then assign windows Update automatic recommended settings. If you start to remove the updates in a timely manner without the necessary expertise you can cause you problems.

Even if you say that you've defragmented & used cleaning disc, there are a few other things to look at in this article:

  • Vista Service Pack 1 update fails - computer will not start and cannot be repaired

The computer which is an Acer desktop computer, running Windows Vista Premium.  In the last 6 months updated Vista tried Service Pack 1 update to install Vista about 8 times and failed every time a reason any.  Just before this latest incident, a facility was "cancelled" in the Middle for some reason any.  I restarted the computer and almost immediately was advised that there is an update, which turned out be SP-1.

I started the update, and some time later I received a message that the update was successful, and that he had to be restarted the computer.  I clicked on the button restart and the Installation continues during the shutdown.

When the computer tried to restart initialization failed and I ended up after several lines of information that looked as if it might be checking drivers and then information began to look as if she might be reading the register lines.  Each line has 2 numbers separated by a slash (/), who scored on a single line at the top of the screen, (white letters on black background) after a certain time the count to stop with the line of text of flickering on the same entry.

It is the line that goes to the screen when the information keeps changing.

    !! 0xc01a001d!  37636/92292 (\Registry\Machine\components\winners\x86...)

Since the failure of the Windows Vista SP1 update, when the system begins to start, after a short while, he starts playing what seems like lines in the registry, and after a few moments he always stops with the same accurate information just flicker.  At this point, it seems that this scenario will continue forever.  The hard drive is accessible, as if trying to read something, over and above.  The hard drive light flashes, instead of being on regularly, but only for a while.  After that, even the flickering stops.

I have tried to start mode without failure, then after loading some files and after some time (5 or 10 seconds) the displayed files always end with the same file at the bottom of the list and what seems to be a status extend the message please know...  Shortly after the screen is empty, the fails to start and the computer is restarted.

Usually what will happen is that the computer will begin to start up again, but because the previous boot failed, it asks if you want to go to startup repair, which, at first, seems to work fine, but after a little time it brings up a dialog box asking if you want to restore to the previous good Restore Point.  The display will then return to the same routine he had previously, and she runs to always if not interrupted.

If you click the Cancel button, a message appears indicating that you cannot interrupt the current process, so the only way that you can try something else is to Shut Off the Power in now the switch down, permanently.

[Note: the notes above have not all accurate messages, Word for Word, exceot for the Hex error line.]
