can I use external monitor with my laptop, but the laptop screen is broken can it work

my screen is broken I can see pieces of the screen, but not enough to change things so can system work I connect always external monitor at the moment until the repair is possible thanks steve

Hello Stephen,

Assuming that you have the right cable, Yes, you can. In all likelihood, you will need a cable to VGA 15 pins to connect your monitor to your laptop. With a bit of luck, your laptop should recognize your external monitor and shunt video to it.

If it's not, or you need to change whatever it is, go to control panel, Manager of devices and open this applet. You may need to check both places. The first is graphics cards - your video card, which is part of the integrated graphics card likely your motherboard. The second is monitors, who will be where your external monitor is displayed. Your duty to make sure what your video (graphics card) points to the external monitor (monitors).

If you have any questions, please post them here. Let me know how you fare.

Kind regards

BearPup

I have a new Pavilion dm4-301 d cl Entertainment PC.   My OS is Windows 7.   I'm used to using two external monitors with a docking station.   This new laptop lacks a docking station.  What should I do use two external monitors?

Certainly not without a dock, but even with laptop HP well enough docks limit you to one of the ports on the external monitor, even if there are two on the dock. We used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a USB to hdmi adapter. It provides a feature of third monitor for a laptop... use the native external port of the screen and the computer screen internal, then this device gives a third control that is fully configurable to display Windows 7 interface... clone, extend, etc.. It allows a full HD resolution and is pretty responsive for games even light.  HP does not have any true docking station for your laptop.

HP DM4 has a VGA and HDMI port, so you can use a those for connecting an external monitor.
So you can use a 17, 19, 21/22, 24 any size you want. And use cell phones and external monitors

  • Equium A100-147: can I use external monitor with 1920 x 1200 output

    Hello

I have an equium A100-147, anyone know if its possible to use my external lcd as office extended to its native resolution of 1920 x 1200, I want to use it for photo editing.

None of these options to external display currently on the graphics card drivers provide a decent game with the external monitor.

How can I make it fit on the screen without stretch or compress images with a decent resolution?

    Hi Mae

As you probably know the resolution you want to use depends on the installed graphics driver.
If the graph does not contain the 1920 x 1200 resolution you will not be able to use it.

But maybe after a small modification of the graphics driver you will be able to choose such an external resolution.

  • Use external monitor with Tecra A9 problem

    Hi all

I have laptop Tecra A9 with Intel 965 Express Chipset and Windows XP Professional. I use 6.14.10.4814 graphics driver
I tried to implement the configuration to use the external monitor as extended desktop.

My laptop screen is 1680 x 1050 and external monitor is 1280 x 1024 and I want to configure it to be as follows:
the two screens to work in their native resolutons
monitor 1 is portable and it's on the right side, external is 2 and it's on the left
And it works fine until I put in Hibernate or restart. After this external monitor is 1 and it is on the left and laptop screen is 2 and it's on the right.
In addition, laptop screen resolution is 800 x 600 now and all the desktop icons are messy.
I'd appreciate any help with this.

    Thank you.

  • Cannot use external monitor with my Tecra A9

    Hi all

    Need help on this:

I connected to an external monitor to my Tecra A9 but the monitor shows me blue color.
I tested other monitors and reset the graphics card to the default settings but the same stills.

Can you give me some advice on how to find out the solution for this?
I really need the external monitor to work because I need to edit some screens of the application.

    Thanks for your attention!

Have you tried to use the option of FN + F5 to switch to the external display?
If this does not help I recommend to check the settings in the properties of the graphics card-> advanced settings.

  • laptop connected to an external monitor with vga cable issues?

    1The votefavorite

I use a Sony Vaio e series laptop running windows 7 Home premium 64-bit, which I always connect to an external monitor with a VGA cable.

I put graphics options to display only on the external monitor and I would like to close the lid of the laptop. In the power settings I put it do nothing when the lid closes.

When it is connected to the external screen I am able to look at the screen very well if the lid of the laptop is open. But whenever I close the lid, the display on the external monitor is turned off.

I have tried everything I can think of as the use of a keyboard to toggle the display, change the plan to plug the monitor off before and after and even more, to much to list etc.

I actually did it on my HD TV using a Hdmi cable that allows me to close the lid. But I want to use it only on my monitor that is sadly only VGA.

I know I'm not alone here, I found many forums on the same issue, but nobody seems to have an answer. It is always with the help of a VGA cable when I find others with the same problem.

Does anyone know where a response?

It seems either VGA may be quite old now since the introduction of HDMI, that Microsoft has not bothered to look on this or get out an update to resolve this issue. Sorry it's just very frustrating because cannot find an answer, and I don't like the laptop overheating or wasting money on energy.

    (1) right click on your power Option icon on the taskbar

    (2) will take you to Options below

    Control Panel:

Choose what closing the lid"this choice is the 3rd in your list of choices

The next screen will allow you to configure your choice:

    When I close the lid:

    On battery: do nothing and

    Plugged in: Do nothing

This will prevent your system/video to go to sleep or stopping

    Hope this helps

  • Qosmio X 500 - 13R: picture on external monitor with resolution 2560 x 1440 is blurred

    Hi all

I have a computer laptop X 500 - 13R Toshiba Qosmio, although 2 years, still a great piece of hardware.

    I just bought a new monitor 27 "U2713HM which supports a resolution of 2560 x 1440.

Computer video card notebook (GTX 460 m) supports a resolution higher than through a digital connection, so I used a HDMI cable to connect.

Via Control Panel Nvidia, I could create a custom resolution, but the image is not clear / is blurred.
It is readable, but it's just not everything.

Tried with HDMI 1.4, without success.
I volunteered to connect through Dual Link DVI cable, but the phone doesn't have a DVI connector, and I doubt the adapter will help.

Anyone has a suggestion how to fix this problem?

    Thank you.

I would like to share my experience using an external monitor with a HDMI cable.
My monitor supports both HDMI and DVI port.
First of all, I plugged my laptop on the external monitor using a HDMI cable to HDMI.
But the fonts and the picture was not clear. I used the resolution 1920 x 1080

Then I went to the DVI port. I plugged the laptop s HDMI port to monitor s port DVI (HDMI/DVI cable) and that solved my problem.

I'm not quite sure the relevance of m this could be for you, but it worth the try

  • Monitors of switching with a laptop screen

Ok. I have a HP Compaq Presario V5000 running on Windows XP and the screen is broken. When I turn the backlight turns on but that's all. I don't know if it has to do with the inverter or whatever, but is it possible to change my default display to an external monitor without the screen of my laptop?

    Hi Yo-Yo123,

It is not possible that the laptop screen is broken. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the system for more support options.

As the laptop does not start, try to run by using the last known good configuration to restore it to its last working state.
see How to start your computer by using the last good known Configuration .
    b. check to see if you are able to start the computer.

  • When you use two monitors Media Player will not playback on screen #2 video (not a problem with the monitor #1).

I'm sorry for the long post, but this is the type of problem that is easy to explain in person but if transported by writing it might take a little longer for the sake of the definition. Please read on without fear because this problem is not as complicated as you might think, I hope.

I use two (2) screens of computers with the same system but why Media Player does not work on a single monitor and not the other monitor?

I use two monitors with my PC thanks to the CLONE function and things last a lot. #1 monitor is a computer 19 "monitor. Monitor #2 is at the end of the piece. VIZIO, the manufacturer, markets a monitor #2 as a computer screen, nope, it's a 47 '' Vizio HDTV that I use as a computer screen. I use the installation without any problems for over a year now until yesterday. The problem: now, when I use two monitors to play a video, the sound will play but not the video. What I see is a black screen empty. This negative situation applies to only monitor the #2 and does NOT monitor #1.

    > very important Please note... when I have both monitors running and I play a video that you can actually see the video play on the #1, the 19-inch video monitor! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the video player when it runs on the small computer screen 19 inch. But when you turn your head to look through the living room where I Monitor #2 placed you won't see the video running on #1 monitor as you normally would before that dysfunction appeared. (No, instead of this you will see the Windows Media Player (or Nero or RealPlayer) readers 'playing' a black screen blank even if 1) both monitors are indeed cloned and 2) video plays without any problem on monitor # 1. Monitor #2 with media work (sort of) because the volume level is adjustable, and you can see the bar jump up and down and all around media player progression but the problem is that there is simply no video when you try watching the video on a monitor #2.

    > except to play videos through a Player multimedia, I can use my Vizio TV as a monitor for what is related to the computer, there is no another negative question. I can surf the web, edit videos, etc. When I run a video from Youtube to my computer the monitor #2 TV Vizio, the Youtube video plays well. Ditto for Netflix, no complaints there. In fact, I just typed this post on and displayed using Monitor #2... But if I want to watch a video that I saved in a folder XP then the only option is to use the #1 monitor.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Do restore of the system as a first step. If this fails,

    1. uninstall all software of Monitor 2

    2. unplug the monitor 2

    3. restart the computer

    4. connect the monitor 2

    5. install all the software monitor

  • Use multiple monitors with Client view

    Hello

Quick question regarding the use of multiple monitors when connecting via the customer to view. I have many users using a monitor with a zero multi configuration client and everything works as expected. When connecting via customer discovered however the Office extends on (i.e. Outlook stretches on left and right screens) two monitors instead of 'renewal' (i.e. the prospects on the left monitor, acrobat opens on the right). Everyone is aware of a fix for this?

    Thanks in advance.

    See you soon.

Are you sure that you are using PCoIP?  View what version do you use?  Which version of the Client that you are using a view?
