Can not boot from my DVD to a format before loading Win 7

I tried to start my (professional) win7 updated my dvd player, so I can format my C: drive before loading Win7.

I did the necessary bios change for boot order, I get the message "press any key to boot...". ', but a touch usually takes me to my C: drive boot upward.

I should mention that I installed win7 on my C: drive but was never an option to format the drive, and now there are still all my old files and the background image that I don't want. Otherwise, the installation went great.

There is another thread where I was getting help and some good ideas, but he seems to have died.

See Win7 XP update not did me not the ability to format the C: drive or delete all the old files on this drive on this link for further details.  http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-windows_install/Win7-upgrade-from-XP-did-not-give-me-the-option-to/4ca764c3-2f45-4B2F-84b9-808ce96476c4

Basically, what I want to know is, are SATA drives "to hot' I think the term is.

In other words do I can unplug the SATA connection on my C: drive, see him if I can then boot in my reader DVD, then in case of success, taking the C: drive in and move forward with the formatting and reinstalling from there?

Thank you

You need the C: drive to the DVD player work. I tried this before. Your Windows 7 CD may be corrupted. I recommend you to speak with Microsoft by phone on this problem. Here is ther number (800) MICROSOFT (642-7676).

Hope this helps!

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-

    Hello

Enter the BIOS settings and set its default value. Then try to boot up your laptop and check what happens. Also try to boot from CD/DVD installations. If the problem continues, I'm afraid there is a hardware problem devices such as HDD and ODD are not visible to the BIOS settings.

I assume it can be due to faulty hardware or faulty controller on the motherboard.

Yes, there is a way to do this.

I just did this to install Windows 10 from a DVD on a tablet of 10 Latitude by following these steps:
(Note: my version of BIOS is A08)

    1. turn off the 10 latitude power.
    2. attach a USB hub to the USB slot unique on the side of the tablet.
    3. fix a keyboard and an external USB CD drive to the USB hub.
    4. now press the button down on the side of the Tablet and simultaneously press the power button for 5 seconds (until see you the screen light up, but will be weak against black unlit).
    5. When you see the Dell logo, start typing on the F12 key (the lower right corner shows the option press the F12 key to choose single startup options)
    6. now start choosing appear with many options to choose from, including my CD/DVD drive.

Hope it will be useful to you.

  • Can't boot from USB/dvd drive on Satellite Pro M10

    Hello

the broken internal dvd drive, an external USB disk is used. Now I need to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. How can I boot from the external hard drive? (I don't have a floppy drive, but I can't find the right drivers)

    Thank you

    Luke

    Hello

Don t you need all the drivers for this key USB — because the USB disk is a device integrated on your computer. This means that whenever you connect the diskette drive to your machine, the computer establishes that diskette as a cable internal disk and this is the reason why you won´t need all the drivers.

It s already installed when you plug it in.

    See you soon

  • can not boot from the CD

I have a Dimension 8300 running XP Pro and I am trying to reformat the hard drive and reinstall XP.  I can't boot from the CD.  At startup after F12 and selected to boot from the CD, the sytem always starts on the hard drive. I changed the BIOS boot sequence, but still no luck.  The works of CD to read and write, but no boot from the OS disk.  Once the system boots from the hard drive I can start the CD of the OS that gives me the ability to reinstall XP, but no option to reformat.  My top disc is a DVD-ROM and the second disc is a CD - R.  I tried to boot from both drives, but the machine continues to boot from the hard drive.  Any suggestions?

  • Portege M200 - the keyboard does not work and I can't boot from CD/DVD

    Hello

I recently tried to install VM Player on my Toshiba M200. When I restarted my computer, I found that my network connections did not work. I tried to uninstall the reader of the VM, but it failed to halfway. As the program has created a number of virtual network connections which I couldn't remove, I went into the registry and remove the 20 entries or while I thought when linked.

I rebooted and found my keyboard HID devices and Wireless does not. So I started using the ketyboard softward to try to resolve the problem. I was able to reboot and login using the software keyboard until I did a restore to the last parameter of normal startup. How, rather than get my login window, I get a message asking me to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete. When I do using the software keyboard I get another window saying due to security, I have to press key instead of Ctrl-Alt-Delete Windows security. When I press the button on the key of Windows security on the lower side right of the screen, nothing happens.

What I can do. I have also tried to attach a USB CD drive (Philips) but can't get the laptop to boot from it. I get an error message (so I had to research readers of CD boot) saying the laptop can not find the drive. The CD comes on during startup, but only for a second.

I'm desperate so please let me know what options I have or what I can do about it. The physical keyboard works during startup until the first Windows startup screen appears. No NumLock or such work at the time when I get to the login screen.

Thanks in advance for one advise you can provide.

    Hello

A long history on your question... I think the reason for this is why you deleted some registry keys. If you delete something in the registry of Windows, you really know what you're doing. You may damage the entire Windows system!
So I think that's the reason why the keyboard doesn t more.

In the manual, I founded the CD-ROM boot option is available with the optical disk option.
So for me it sounds like that your CD USB drive is not compatible with the laptop

  • Satellite A200 - 19L can not boot from the CD

    Hi guys,.

I'm glad I found this forum site, I pretty well hope to find a solution here.

Well, this problem is not very complicated, in fact my DVD player (model TS-L632) is not read more, so much so I decided to change with a new one, but it is not the same model as the original drive.
It is the case of the generic DVD player really.

Now when I inserted my recovery disk or any bootable disk is not booting the CD, and when I press F12 for I can't find any CD/DVD drive, but running in Windows I can't find the DVD player and it can read any CD priority boot normally.

Just having the problem while booting from CD.
I thought that maybe there is no security for this model that locked some hardware.
So please guys want to help me how to understand it,

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    > When I press F12 for boot priority I can't find any CD/DVD drive, but running in Windows I can find the DVD player and it can normally read any CD.

The whole story seems really strange to me
If you access the BIOS, you can see the details of the CD/DVD drive? The drive is recognized properly?

If not then I guess that the STRANGE inserted is not totally compatible due to different master/slave/c-salt settings.

    > but running in Windows I can find the DVD player and it can normally read any CD
It s also strange to me so that the CD/DVD drive appears in Device Manager even if the CD/DVD drive Startup menu option does not appear.

    But first check the BIOS

  • Vista 64 does not start after the bios screen. Can not boot from the recovery cd or help

Last night a MS pushed a windows update and my pc restarted automatically.  But it does not actually restart.

The PC goes through the bios tests, passes and then crashes and does not start in Vista.

I can't start at all, including safe mode.

I can't the system recovery option in HP bios to load.  Can I only use my Vista64 system recovery bootable cd or actually start.

First of all, I thought it was a HARD drive problem, but tests of the bios disk hard that all spend, even the 2 hours 'SMART' test that he was running.

    Help

    Hello

What happens when you try to boot from the recovery CD? You receive messages or error codes?

You can check if the boot in the BIOS settings priority is configured to boot to CD\DVD.

NOTE: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • Can not boot from the CD to recover OS - Portege M200

    Hello

I'm working on my Portege M200 friends that she bought used. Only, it came with an external USB CDROM drive and the laptop computer AC adapter. To make things better the HD is no longer recognized by the BIOS. I had a spare HD so I installed it and now the BIOS see the new HD, Yay!

I also discovered that I could buy a replacement Toshiba system recovery CD, new Yay! But before I do that I wanted to make sure I could boot from the external CDROM drive. I plugged the CDROM drive and attempted to start on a spare windows xp CD. But it does not start on the CD. I made sure that the CD-rom drive has been first in the BIOS boot priority, but that doesn't seem to work.

I read the other posts that mention the boot directly from the external CD-rom USB drive does not work and I have to boot to the CD-rom drive by plugging the CD-rom drive in a PCMCIA card. If I have to buy a PCMCIA card that has USB ports for connecting external USB CDROM drive in for I can boot from a CD?

If there will be any brand/type of work? If this is not the case, what brand/type is known to work.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

BIOS of the portege recognise only a limited number of pcmcia-CD-disks

in this thread you will find all the information you need:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=71179𑘋

but your portege also boots most of the readers of usb_FDD; If you make a BACK-boot disk with the appropriate drivers for your CD-ROM usb drive you can use it without restrictions bios

as you can read that this method will work only in a DOS environment, that is why it is absolutely necessary to format your hard drive to fat32, otherwise it will not be recognized

  • can not boot from usb, error 0xc000021a

    Hello

My laptop is messed up. I was able to boot into normal mode before I wanted to reinstall, but it got stuck frequently. The situation is now I can't boot in any mode, and it keeps saying no boot device.  I'm trying to reinstall using the bootable USB key. But still, it shows the error 0xc000021a and restarts again. How can I work around this issue and reinstall the system or maybe the disc is dead?

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

This could be due to the corrupted USB because it is not let you go beyond repair. Please create a bootable DVD such as suggested in the previous post by me.

Please post back with the results. We will be happy to help you further.
