Can not defragment lecteurC - needs 15% free space. What else can I remove or delete?

I can't defragment my disk hard because I need 15% free space and have only 12%.  It is a Dell Dimension 2300, aged about 10 years.  I run Disk Cleanup and delete everything I can think and moved large files on an external hard drive. When I go into Add/Remove Programs, I see things that take a lot of space, but I don't know what I can delete.  Can I remove old Service Pack updates or together should they stay?  What can I do else? Help!

Your report raises a number of problems. You will need to apply to each of them in turn.

You have three user accounts created. Andrealynn, the Animal and JoJo. This means that when run you disk cleanup you must login as each user in turn and run Disk Cleanup to remove unwanted files. I have already mentioned cCleaner. This will clean all at once.

I think you should look at unwanted desktop shortcuts.

HOW TO: Use the Desktop Cleanup Wizard in Windows XP

Outlook Express is another source of wasted space.

You must empty the deleted items folder. Right click on the deleted items folder, and then select "empty folder deleted items.

Records of your Inbox and sent items should be used to store messages for a short period. Large system files are prone to corruption, and then you lose messages. It is much safer to keep themessages in a created Local user folder.

Your box of reception and sent items folders hold only messages waiting

You can control the process of compaction by at a time that suits

Compaction could earn a good amount of disk space.

A parameter that might be useless by default is that for temporary internet
files, especially if you keep no copies on the disk offline. The
default allocation is 3% of the walk. Depending on your attitude offline
you could bring this to 1% or 2% of the copies. In Internet Explorer, select

The default allocation for the basket is 10% of the disk. Implement

If your drive is formatted as NTFS another potential gain arises with
your operating system on your C drive. In the Windows directory of
your C partition you'll have some uninstall files in your windows

Select properties, general, advanced, and check the box before you compress

compression is only an option on an NTFS formatted disk partition / partition.

When you have completed these tasks, please post a new report from Defragmenter.

Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
