Can Portege 7200 CT - I install Windows Xp instead of Windows 2000?

Hello

I have an old Portege 7200, Pentium III, 600 MHZ, RAM 320Mo.

I use Windows 2000, remains stable and running (you know, never touch a system running...)

However, due to new software that will work with Windows 2000 (Internet Explorer, anti-virus, software video / Cam and a little more) I need an OS-update. I have an old Windows XP-license (SP 2) and the idea of installing WinXP on this laptop.

The power system should be fine, however, I've not found anyone with WinXP on this laptop. Someone at - he live with that? It work? What I have to do a BIOS update? I have version 1.80 and found here in the care of the side a 2.0 zip file

Thanks a lot in advance - Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Theoretically, you can install what you want on your laptop but I checked the Web from Toshiba site and it seems there are no XP driver for Portege 7200.
What does that mean? Well, you can install XP but if you the drivers you need to collect these external Web sites, such as Intel or Realtek drivers. Maybe you will find all the drivers that you need.

In my opinion the update of the BIOS should be one if it of necessary. This means that if the laptop works well, this update isn't necessary.

I hope I could help a bit. :)

  • If I bought a computer with windows 8 is already installed (windows 8 sucks) can I uninstall it and install windows 7

If I bought a computer with windows 8 is already installed (windows 8 sucks) can I uninstall it and install windows 7? Windows 8 has to be the worst software ever. It is like going back to the iceage of computers. The LAGS and timing on is horrible. I expect right cruse, that she does not exist. It's like a person driving a car with their foot constantly on the brake.

You will first need to go to the website of manufacturers for your model computer and first find out if there are native drivers in Windows 7. A large number of computers that are preloaded with Windows 8 have no native driver support for Windows 7 by the manufacturer. If there is no native driver, you will need to consider returning the machine and buying a machine preloaded with Windows 8 Pro with downgrade rights to Windows 7 Professional. Or look through the catalogue of manufacturers for systems already preloaded with Windows 7, usually the business sector will have these options.

  • How to install Windows 2000 on Equium A200-1VO?

    Hello

    Can someone help me?

I would like to install Windows 2000 on the Toshiba Equium A200-1VO laptop, but I need the drivers to do this.
I have tried the Toshiba web page but cannot find the drivers.

    Can someone please?

    Thank you

You will not be the drivers because this Vista designed for laptop is not supported by this old operating system. Maybe you can find the drivers for Windows XP Home edition, but not for W2000.

All you can do is search for the drivers on the net and hope you have success with it.
I don't know why you would do this, but perhaps you should accept that at some point Toshiba must say stop and don't waste time with the support of the older operating system. I also believe that 0.01% people want to use this old operating system on new generation laptops.

There is no sense to make support for W2000. What do you think about this?

  • Re: IMPORTANT - how to install Windows 2000 on a Satellite L300 - 16 M (PSLB0E)?

    Hello

I am an independent developer and absolutely need to install multiple operating systems on my * Satellite L300 - 16 M (PSLB0E) *: it is very important for me because I need to check the functioning of the software under each environment for real (not not using solutions like VMware, for example).

Well, then, right now, I did a backup Acronis image of original full HDD, and then deleted the original scores of WinRE and data, reduced and moved from disk to the partition of Vista... and installed System Commander 8 to prepare my future multi - initialize. For the moment, everything sounds right: Vista works perfectly!

Also note, I have configured the SATA in the BIOS Setup in "Compatibility" mode just because I don't need AHCI in my type of use!

Second step: now, * I have to install Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) EN *. Of course, I am aware that the sticking point is the SATA/AHCI driver, which is not present in the CD of Win 2 K... So, I just make a new CD integrating these drivers using nLite; now, I tried using the driver Intel site on Intel 82801 HEM / HBM SATA AHCI controller (ICH8M) and page drivers Toshiba XP.

But it does not completely: the Win 2 K install begins... All the drivers are well charged (including the ones AHCI) and just after this stage of loading, I get a black screen with just a blink of an eye cursor at the top left of the screen... indefinitively :-(

I tried also to SATA mode "AHCI" in the BIOS and it's the same thing.

    So, what to do next?

I used the wrong AHCI drivers? Do I need to integrate as many drivers Toshiba (about chipset, display, sound) in the installation of Windows 2000 using nLite CD? I mean the capacity of the CD is not reached.

Is there a way or a tutorial to install Windows 2000 somewhere? For XP, I think it will be easier because SP3 seems to support AHCI, but earlier, my problem is to install Windows 2000: Although Microsoft wants to leave-it, there are many professionals who still use-it... And my work as a developer, is to make my software also works on this OS! * I really need to find a way to install it on this computer! *

Awaiting your response informed and all the tips or idea that could help me to complete the task.
    In a word: HELP! Oops!

    > No I used the wrong AHCI drivers?
    Perhaps.

As far as I know that you need the crib Intel Matrix Storage and in this package, you will find the SATA drivers.
    http://www.Intel.com/support/chipsets/IMSM/index.htm

There you have to choose to get the latest driver - version PV-> Win 2000 8.5-> there you must take the package from point 3

    Good luck

I installed Windows 2000 on a virtual machine to another Windows XP computer. I'm under the it on my new computer with Windows xp. Is the adapter intel a virtual card? I tried to uninstall the Intel card and then install the Realtek but Windows 2000 installation does not see the Realtek card. • Portege 3490CT - how to install Windows XP?

I have a portege 3490CT and I want to install Windows xp, but the laptop cannot boot from my external USB cdrom drive. I tried to install Windows on the hard disk on another computer (it works), but if I put the disk in the laptop it does not start.

So, how can I install windows?

    Please write back.
    Thank you.

    Hi michaelnachname,

Here you can already find a thread on installation of Windows XP Portege 3490CT:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-euro...D=16411䀛

As you can read, you must format the HARD drive and copy the folder the XP disc on HARD drive i386. Then, you can start Setup from the HARD drive without a CD player. :)

    Hello friends :)

I have a problem with the installation of Windows 2000 on Portege 3440.

What should I do to install this system? (Same users do not have these releases)

    Thanks for help
    Adrian

    Hello

1 don't forget to prepare your hard disk with fdisk (a bootable partition) and format it with the Fat32 file system

    2. start by a MSDos saved in your floppy drive-drive with drivers for your PCMCIA CDrom drive (Freecom)

    3. copy the entire i386 to the W2K installation CD directory your HD, be sure to have loaded smartdrive, otherwise it will take ages!

4 start again with the saved, go to the i386 directory and start Windows NT

You can look here for more information about freecom pilots and the bootdisks: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
On your 3440 it should be easier than with the R100 because of normal 2.5 "HD 6 GB, but the problem is basically the same

  • How can I add a previously installed windows on my mac pro installation

Hi guys, everything becomes to collect my newly bought mac pro 3.1 (used). I'm moving PC, but how do I add my existing installation of windows on my mac? The mac pro is 3.1 and has 2 x 500 GB disks in a raid 1 TB configuration. It's just a matter of plugging my windows disk (I'm guessing No.) or is it a bit more complex than that? Any help or advice will be appreciated and hope to give back as much help as I get that I'm learning. Thank you

You can install Windows on a Mac computer using Boot Camp Assistant or by using a Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox virtual machine natively. Refer to the instructions of Boot Camp located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/. OT If using a virtual machine see the instructions located on the Parallels, Fusion or VirtualBox sites.

In both cases you can not use a PC already existing installation of Windows. You need to reinstall Windows on your Mac.

  • Can satellite U500-10N - I install Windows XP?

    Hello

I bought the Satellite U500-10N and it has Vista, but I want to install XP, is it possible?

My plan is to backup all my files and then put the installation CD of XP, delete all files in Vista and record fresh new copy of XP. And then install all the drivers of nessesery to my laptop to functional normal? Is this possible? :\ I have
fear that if I install XP some features on my laptop will not work.

I am in need of help, please if someone knows something I will be grateful

    Hello

Theoretically, you can install Windows XP, why not? ;)

But I put t understand why you want to use such an old operating system. I mean the Satellite U500 is really fast enough for Vista and Windows 7 is present in a few days. You should be happy with your pre-installed Vista version that should work well.

The point is that Toshiba doesn't offer drivers U500 and XP so you must collect all the drivers yourself on the Internet that takes a lot of time. In addition, I think that some special functions, like the FN keys will not work because it you can get a driver from Toshiba.

It s your choice what you do but I'd wait for Windows 7 If you don't like Vista Satellite U500 n should also support Windows 7.

  • Can satellite A100-011 - I install Windows 7 64 bit?

Can you please tell me if I install Windows 7 64 bit where can I find the drivers, because they are not listed on the Toshiba site.

    Thanx.

    Akis

    Hi Akis,

    > where I can find the drivers, because they are not listed on the Toshiba site.
That of the point because the drivers provided for this model, you can find on the official website of Toshiba. There's no other place where you can download the pre-tested and official drivers for Toshiba laptops.

Theoretically, there s no problem to install Windows 7, but you don't have to search the drivers yourself on other sites like:
    Etc.

An alternative you can try 64 bit Vista drivers. Usually they should work on Windows 7 too.

  • Can satellite L450-136 - I install Windows XP?

I just got a Satellite L450-136 with Windows 7 and all loaded Toshiba Utillities. I don't like Windows 7 and many prefer Windows XP.
Can I remove all Windows 7 and install Windows XP on this laptop?

    Thank you.

    Hey,.

    > Can I delete all Windows 7 and install Windows XP on this laptop?
Of course, you can install all the BONES you want :)

But don t forget to create the Toshiba recovery disc as mentioned in the user manual. If you want Windows 7 returns with all the drivers and tools you can restore from recovery disc because it contains a picture of the factory settings.

Did you check if you can get all the drivers for your model and XP?

  • Can satellite A100-003 - I install Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?

    Hello everyone,

I have the Satellite A100-003 and I've been running it with Windows XP since I it (triple). Now I want to install Windows 7 on it, however, I'm confused about what can I install on it.

I have a few places on the Toshiba site, I found that I can install Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), but I can met some problems with the BIOS, in other places, I tried but could not find the drivers for Windows 7 64 bit.

So what is the case? My first goal is to install windows 7 64 bit, because I have 4 GB of RAM on my laptop, but even the 32 bit would be a better choice than XP right now.
So I can install Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop?

Thanks in advance for any answer!

    Hello

Important before installing another OS, you check the Toshiba driver download page. Satellite A100-003 belongs to the PSAARE series and is therefore not available for Windows 7 drivers. You can only get the drivers for Windows XP and Vista 32 bit.

This means that you can try to install Windows 7 because Vista drivers most also work on Windows 7.
If this isn't the case you find newer drivers yourself, maybe you can find something.
