Can't boot from usb, lack of boot USB for dv7-4173us option?

I couldn't find an option to boot from USB on my

HP Pavilion dv7-4173us laptop BIOS.

How to enable boot from the USB port?

Thank you.

Hey hpng,

I am pleased to hear that the option is now available. When you set up a dual boot with Linux, I have very little information on how to do it. The only thing I would say, is to read the document "frequently asked Questions (FAQ) on Linux". It has a lot of frequently asked questions, but the main reason is, to the bottom of the page you will see an option to where I can find more information about Linux.

Depending on what version of Linux you want to install, I suggest you post your question on the Linux community.

I hope this helps!

You may need to install the device drivers on the device manufacturing site, or else you must have received the CD of the software with the device.

  • CAN'T PRINT FROM INTERNET SINCE THE UPGRADE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE BANK

Since I have updated to Firefox I can print is more information from internet sites, such as my Bank, doctor e-mails, web pages. The exception is if it's in Adobe Reader, and then it will print. I have no problem with the printing of my emails from Mozilla or word documents. I had presented this issue to the staff of the san Francisco Office, but whenever someone called I wasn't home and my wife did not get a return number. This has happened for a long time, and if I really need to print something I have to copy and paste in Word and print it from Word. Can I just get my old Firefox 3.5 back. Luther

A big thank you to all for taking the time to help me solve this frustrating problem. I've been very busy taking care of my wife who is on heavy medication because of the second surgical procedure on the back that is not well. I was not able to read all your replies, but I came across the solution, and suspect the problem was the 74-year old driver and not the problem of Firefox. I decided to reinstall Firefox 12 and then when I went to test printing with the internet, I noticed that when the initial print screen came the name of an unknown for me (?) printer is appeared where it says printer name. Only I have the printer a HP 7200 and therefore have not supposed than anything else would be there to select. The name of the printer listed was "Microsoft XPS Document Writer". When I changed my HP7200 the problem has been resolved. I don't know why I never noticed this unexpected change. Once again thank all forr you your kind assistance.

  • Copy the VM from USB for ESX 4.0?

I have all the files that make up a virtual computer on an external drive (40 GB of data).  I need to get them on a new server ESX 4.0.  What is the fastest way to similest to do this?  Can I mount the service console USB drive and just copy the files?  Is there a conversion process that must work because they are 3.5 and I put them on a 4.0 Server?  Thank you.

Means the faster is to log on to your workstation and use VMware Converter or Veeam FastSCP for ESX move data.

  • NB100 - Recovery vs iso from usb DVD

    Hello!

I bought Toshiba NB100 with pre-installed XP Home Edition and now I want to reinstall it using Toshiba Recovery DVD I got with the netbook.
The problem is that I have no DVD player in this laptop and I don't want to buy a scanner of the Clerkship - here's what I did to start an iso image of this dvd from USB:

    1. first of all, I did an iso image of the recovery DVD Toshiba using UltraISO app (and called it TOSHIBA.iso) - I checked the image in one of the virtual machines: all went well so I think the image is ok
    2. I used GRUB4DOS app to make my folder of grldr bootable, copied to usb stick to the root of my USB catalogue, created from images of boot/path/and copied it my TOSHIBA.iso image and created the menu.lst looking like this:

    TOSHIBA recovery DVD title
    find--set-root /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso
    map - mem /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso (hd32)
    map - hook
    chainloader (hd32)
    rootnoverify (hd32)

The menu.lst file has been placed in the catalogue of the root of the USB.

3 then I rebooted netbook, changing the order of startup in the BIOS and GRUB was loaded with option of TOSHIBA Recovery DVD - but when I chose him, after the ISO is loaded into memory, I get GRUB error 19 with the message "can not mount selected partition".

I would be very grateful if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Kind regards
    Artur

Hey Artur thank you very much
It's a very useful experience and I hope that other NB100 owners will be happy to read your thread.
Thanks again and I hope you say with us and help other NB100 owners with advice and tips.

    BTW:
You can now install from USB recovery image?
Do you use the compatibility mode or it works with AHCI mode also?

  • Support USB for ESXi

    Hello community.

There is very little son on ESX 3.0/3.5 and Console of service support for USB devices, so I won't re-collection of information here.  SC is really version of Red Hat Linux, USB support is incorporated.

(But not for the Virtual Machine hosts individual granted.)

My question is about support and USB for ESXi connectivity options.

ESXi does not have a Service Console based on linux but the implementation of BusyBox OS to help with management of the hyper-visiere tasks, how USB support built-in. Support must certainly be there for bootable USB and also more rack KVM now have USB keyboards.

Just a question how to go into the options of USB support?  If SC, then I could use commands #mount and #cp... but no SC as shown above, also no space available in most of the cases on local storage.

Thank you and I will reward points quickly.  Looking for ideas on how to use the USB of ESXi connectiivty options.

If you want the contents of the disc to be visible from the VI client, Yes, you can use VMFS3 as the file system.  If you want to just level console access to the contents of the device (for example a "not supported" or "Not supported SSH" connections), you can use VFAT.  The best way to create a filesystem VMFS3 on this is to use storage management in the VI Client.  I tried not to add additional USB drives, so I'm not sure it will work 100%.

In the CLI, you should be able to look in/dev/disks and see all the disks on the system.  You can use fdisk-l/dev/discs / vmhba32\:0\:0\:0 to see the current map of partition of a disk (in this case, disk0 on vmhba32, which is actually the USB on my ESXi machine).  You should also be able to use fdisk to create a partition (type should be fb) for a new store VMFS.  You can then use vmkfstools to create a file system on the partition that you create - for example: vmkfstools vmfs3 - C/dev/discs / vmhba32\:0\:0\:1.  Be careful with this command, you get the correct HBA, disk and partition number, as wrong could wipe out something important.

  • Why I can't boot from a USB?

    Hello

Why I can't boot from a USB?   I'm looking to replace a failed hard drive in a Mac Mini 2010. I replaced the hard drive without difficulty.

I have a USB flash drive from known good 10.10.5 with an Installer (tested) well known about it.   I press the power switch, as soon as the startup chime plays, I press the Option (Alt) key.

One of the two following situations occurs. Sometimes, I have a small screen asking me to enter my password Wi - Fi. I get my password and nothing else happens. Sometimes, I get a flashing "?" on a file folder.  In my view, this indicates that the computer cannot find a bootable disc. I've tried resetting the PRAM, but I do not have the sound of the double ring that I was expecting.

Once a Mac is longer than 4 years, his PRAM Battery should replace before resetting the PRAM actually works.

Is this USB Flash drive "slipstreamed.  It works on any other older than 10.10.5 Mac?

What is a copy from another Mac or Mac Mini itself 10.10.5 clone?

Plug you directly into the USB port of the Mac Mini, or using a hub which is powered wall?

  • Can't boot from USB

    Hi all

I followed the instructions on the site of Ubuntu to create a bootable USB key, but I can't make it work.

All I get is the boot prompt "boot:" if I press on enter it says "not found kernel".

Do I have to have the atom chip intel to use this? I've been trying it on my PC (AMD Thunderbird XP3000 +)

    See you soon

I would say to create a USB bootable from command line. I have personally trust GUI applications. If you want to, you can do it in 1 step, like this:

    * dd bs = 8 M if=path/to/image.img = / dev/SD [x] * + (this command line clears your USB, so backup necessary files first, if necessary). +

    * /dev/ sd [x] * returns the full path of your usb device Let's say + / dev / sdb + and no + / dev / sdb1 +, which is why make sure that you do not have other devices connected to your pc usb storage.

Also first make sure you have your USB not mounted, before writing the image file to it. The image file can be downloaded from [here | http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.04/ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386.img].

    Enjoy.

  • How can I boot from USB - Portege A200

    Hello

I have a Portege A200 which is only a couple of years, but the hard drive no longer works. Initially, I thought that this was due to corrupt the boot disk record, but after trying to replace the drive hard (with two different readers), is showing a #0 IDE error when starting. So I came to the conclusion that the IDE controller chip is dead.

In order to get labour latop, I burned a cd with the ubunto ISO. It starts off ok but due have only 512 MB of RAM, the system is somewhat limited and nothing installed is lost each time that I reboot.

Now, I bought a 2 GB flash drive and installed ubuntu on it. My other problem is that there seems to be no boot from USB HDD or USB option in the bios.

The options I can think of are:
    (1) Upgade the bios so that it supports the start of memory stick (although no HARD drive so do not know how I could reflash the BIOS or if there is even an upgrade of the BIOS that would support this feature)
    (2) create a cd that starts the boot process then tells the system to continue the initialization of the USB key (this is possible and does anyone know where I might be able to get these software)
    (3) boot from CD but the use of USB to keep any recorded information / everything installs etc (I suppose that similar to option 2 except the cd would manage the entire OS and USB would just "extra" information)

If there are other options if someone may think I am happy to give them a go. Seems a shame to have to chuck to a laptop that is not particularly old, because the IDE controller chip has failed on the mobo.

I have apppriciate any help anyone can offer.
    Thank you very much
    Mark

    Hello

First I have to say that it of not possible to boot from the external USB device as USB, CD/DVD USB drive or USB HDD.
It of only possible to boot from the external USB FDD (floppy) disk

However, no opportunities for startup are clear, but I think that you misunderstood the IDE #0 error message. According to m that the IDE controller is not defective but only the new drive HARD is not compatible and not recognized by the BIOS.

There are different reasons for this problem
For the most part this error message appears if the HARD drive master/slave/c-salt settings are not correct.
Generally these settings don t need to be changed or switched on the 2.5 hard disks but some hard drives support a rider that needs to be fixed in the correct position. But I put t if your HARD drive supports this

In addition, the size of HARD drive isn't is not compatible could be the reason for these error messages!
I would recommend so finally communicating with ASP in your country to get a new, compatible HARD drive and see if the same error still occurs.

    Good luck

  • Can't boot from USB/dvd drive on Satellite Pro M10

    Hello

the broken internal dvd drive, an external USB disk is used. Now I need to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. How can I boot from the external hard drive? (I don't have a floppy drive, but I can't find the right drivers)

    Thank you

    Luke

    Hello

Don t you need all the drivers for this key USB — because the USB disk is a device integrated on your computer. This means that whenever you connect the diskette drive to your machine, the computer establishes that diskette as a cable internal disk and this is the reason why you won´t need all the drivers.

It s already installed when you plug it in.

    Hello

It is not possible to boot from USB because the BIOS does not support this feature.
You can boot from USB FDD, but to do this you will need a boot like Win98 boot floppy disk

The update of the BIOS will not help you because all BIOS for series A200 don t support it!
