Can't free up space from Oracle

Oracle version: 10.2.0.4.0
Platform: Solaris

In the bdump directory, I saw some big files with name like this < SID >arc1< PID > .trc. I tried to free up space by running cat/dev/null >
.TRCarc1< PID > < SID >, but it seems the files are not narrowed. Can someone tell me how can I free up space in these files without having to restart the database?

Thank you

On Unix, when someone delete a file if the file is always written by some processes, space occupied by the file is not released. This is because the file is always opened by the process and the counting of this file is different from zero.

For free space, you may have to let the process close the file explicitly or kill the offending process.

  • How can I free up space on my C drive without dumping files I need to power my computer? Windows XP 2002

How can I free up space on my C drive without dumping files I need to power my computer? I have currently 40,4 GB used and I don't know how or what is out there that I don't need? I have a backup of system restore that takes a lot of space, but Im saying that I can not remove it by a pop-up box that says access denied even though I have since transferred it on my external backup hard drive. Can someone please help? Thank you

{You can remove C:\{folder-name with lots of letters and numbers like this: 2b4892ncf73d63db37db37}------(these files are temporary and have been created by installers)
    C:\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\\temp
    C:\Documents andSettings\Temp Settings\
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (all the folders inside this folder)

To remove manually restore points, you will need to login to safe mode and change the permissions in the Security tab of the restore point. However, I do not recommend this.

Read this article on how to remove safely restore points:

  • I ran out of free space on the hard drive how can I free up space

My pc is freezing or locking up when I run a desktop wallpaper animated, so I defragment a saw that I was up to 20% freespace

You can create more free space in C in carrying one of the measures suggested below.

The default allocation for the restoration of the system is 12% on your C partition is more generous. I have them would be reduced by 700 MB. Make my computer right click on your icon, and select System Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select settings but this time find the slider and drag it to the left until it shows 700 MB and output. When you get to the settings screen, click on apply and OK and leave.

A flaw that might be useless which is for temporary internet files, especially if you keep no copies on the disk offline. Setting the default value is 3% of the walk. Depending on your attitude to copies offline, you could bring it to 1% or 2%. In Internet Explorer, select Tools, Internet Options, general, temporary Internet files, settings to make the change. At the same time, look at the number of days, the story stands.

The default allocation for the basket is 10% of the disk. Change to 5%, which should be enough. In Windows Explorer hover over your Recycle Bin, right click and select Properties, Global and move the slider from 10% to 5%. However, try to let you become so complete that if it is complete and you delete a file by mistake it will bypass the Recycle Bin and have gone forever.

If your drive is formatted as NTFS another potential gain arises with your operating system on your C drive. In the Windows directory of your C partition you will some uninstall files in your Windows folder in general: $NtServicePackUninstall$ and $NtUninstallKB282010$ etc. These files can be compressed or not compressed. If compressed text the name of the folder appears in blue. If these files are not compressed you can compress. Right-click on each folder and select Properties, general, advanced, and check the box before you compress contents to save disk space. On the general tab, you can see the winning amount by deducting the size on disk size. File compression is only an option on an NTFS formatted disk partition / partition.

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before the error occurred initially do not use this option.

If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user log you need to run Disk Cleanup in each user profile that you want to delete all the unwanted files.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

  • How can I free up space on recovery (D) drive? I'm new with the computer...

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

    Ideas:

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

    Hi Luis Sarubbi,.

The recovery drive is there for one purpose and that is to store the recovery image. You shouldn't have anything else on this drive other than the recovery files. As the space for the recovery disks is relatevely small the only way to free up a space is to move the files to another drive or deleting files. Why is it necessary that you free up space on this drive? Unless you know exactly the name of the recovery of all files, you might end up deleting or moving something that is necessary for recovery. If you end up doing it any subsequent recovery may fail.

Unless there is a specific reason for needing to free up space on this drive, for example, you have been storing document on disk files, then I season you quit well.

  • Can't free up space for Sierra install

After downloading mac os Sierra, I started to install it. I forgot to check my disk space. now I'm stuck in this message:

Mac OS could not be installed on your computer - there is not enough free space on - to install.

I tried to go into safe mode. no luck just a white screen. tried to erase some files in the terminal it says that it is read-only. tried to change the permissions chmod 777. no change. I don't know what to do.

    Hi Hzmajin,

Thank you for downloading Mac OS Sierra! I understand that you are now stuck in the installation due to a lack of disk space on your Mac. Great way to try to start in safe mode to resolve. Given that it did not work, I start up your Mac in recovery then try a reinstall of the OS X earlier if possible. If you made a back up with Time Machine, you can restore the Mac since this backup or you can use to clear the drive completely and then reinstall OS X. After you upgrade to Mac OS Sierra, you can then manually restore your data from the backup of your Mac. If you do not create a back up before you tried to upgrade and archive and reinstall does not work, try using target disk Mode to access the disk drive on the Mac and remove the unwanted data in this way. The links below will help you with the suggestions I provided.

    How to reinstall OS X

OS X can be installed on the same version or an earlier version of Mac OS X, without deleting your data. You don't need to remove or disable the existing system first.
Boot to OS X Recovery now command-r immediately after start-up or you restart your Mac. Release the keys when you see the Apple logo. Start-up is finished when you see the OS X Utilities window.

If you do not want to wipe your drive before reinstalling OS X, open utility disk from window OS X Utilities, and then use disk utility to erase the drive. Quit disk utility when done.
Erase the disc is not necessary unless you transfer your Mac to a new owner, the partitioning of your drive for use with Boot Camp, or attempt to solve the problem as disk utility cannot repair.

Choose to reinstall OS X OS X Utilities window, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
This installs the latest version of Mac OS X, which has already been installed on your Mac.

    Restore from a backup

If you have a Time Machine backup of your Mac, you can restore this backup the OS X. This erases the disk you restore, then replace everything on this disc with OS X and other data from the backup. To continue, OS X Recovery starting, then choose restore from the backup Time Machine and follow the instructions on the screen.

Share files between two computers with target disk mode

These steps should help you in obtaining Mac OS Sierra installed on your Mac with success. Please use the Apple Support communities to post your question. Have a great day.

  • Two Windows XP OS on PC (media Ctr & Pro). Which you want to remove as appropriate? If this is not the case, how can I free disk space?

I have currently appears I have two OS on my pc.  A XP Media Center and a professional XP.  At the start, I select XP Media Center and it works fine.  My problem is that the files in the second version of the OS that seems to have been filed in a folder titled Windows2 do I need?  If not, how to remove the second version or at least release the 7 GB of space it occupies?

To remove either, start pc in that you want, once in xp, go to run,

    type: diskmgmt.msc

MSC, you should see the operating system on a different partition, R.click on it & delete, or

Select this option to format the partition. I imagine that media center is on by default C:

letter, so remove XP pro or pro ends up on a letter, not by default C: which he

should be on... To start from scratch, you need to start on an xp installation cd, press the r key

to the recovery console, once in recovery, type: DiskPart in DiskPart, delete all partitions.

Create one, press the key type, ESC: EXIT cd reboot XP, select install xp, choose format, the

    rest is auto

I would like to know if I can drag and drop files to transport CANADA to free up space on my Mac.

Yes, but the fact that you can do something does not suggest that it would be wise to do. Please take a minute to think about it per.

If you delete files on your Mac for free space and move them to the TC... so that only one copy of these files you will be on the TC.  What will happen to the files when... not if... you have a problem with the TC?

A plan much better, faster and more secure would be to add a USB to your Mac and move your files there. Then, Time Machine can back up your Mac and the USB attached to your Mac to the TC.  It would be a minimum backup... plan your files 'master' on the USB drive and 'backups' on the TC.

You cannot delete the photos and keep them in iCloud photo library.

You can reclaim space on your phone with: settings > Photos & camera > optimize iPhone storage that keeps the smaller version, more low resolution on the phone and original version enlarged in iCloud.

You can use a service advantage cloud service like DropBox or Flickr 3rd.
