Can't see added drive internal or external?

I have a XPS-8500, Windows 7 / 64 bit with a 2 to internal 30 GB SSD.  I had some signs of the internal hard drive of the problems.  I tried to add additional disks, (internal Seagate 500 GB, external WD My Book 3 TB) back up to the top can not get the computer to either one of them.  See them Device Manager but can not get a drive letter assigned.  The Device Manager also reports 'Unknown device' in 'other devices '.   With this combo, (internal and ssd), does that mean that I can not add all the other disks.  Told me on another forum that the readers are seen on the port 0 & 1?  I tried tools such as DISKPART and Disk Manager to format and use the new Volume Wizard, but they always expire with an error:

"The operation failed to complete because the disk management console view is not updated.

Any help would be appreciated.

My Bios indicates RAID

Primary drive Sata0/Port0 (c)

Samsung DVD Sata1/Port5 224

My new drive, seagate 500 GB SATA2/Port2

Samsung DVD Sata3/Port3 203 b

MSata1/Port1 Samsung SSD 32 GB

Thanks for all the suggestions, I learned many things from various forums but ultimately I just bite the bullet and did a system recovery using the disks that I made the purchase of the machine a few years back.  I felt that I couldn't I had some OS system files that have been corrupted (says the release of scannow).  The main hard drive was foul and worsens with each use.  I don't have a disc repair system... and the list goes on and.

After the restoration, I reloaded all my software, downloaded hundreds MS Updates.  Had to re - configure the bios and put the raid ssd and implementing caching with the new accelerated disk.   The new drive is only 500 GB against the oem 2 TB, but I'll pick up something soon.  The 3 TB WD detects.  I partitioned it into 2, 1.5 to partitions.

Everything works very well.  I created a system repair disc.  I have scheduled backups and will create a system image.  Hard drives don't last forever, but this time I have will be prepared (lesson).

I have an external hammer 640 GB drive (which has a Western Digital WD6400AAKS drive inside) with important data. When I connect to my computer (under Windows XP Pro), I can see the player if I go to my computer-> hardware-> readers but can see any drive letter.

Even if boot disks using software such as Hirens boot and demarrer start with the BACK, do not see this drive (I tried A - Z).

There is apparently no physical damage to the disk.

    Hello
In this case, it seems to me that the drive itself is damaged. For this purpose, it is likely that there is no conventional solution through Windows itself.

I suggest you seek a professional store of COMPUTING, or computer confidence. If information on this drive is still recoverable, it will probably take advice from specialized professionals and know how to do really.

  • Where to keep the drive internal or external libraries?

Question #1. I'm an old school and used to keep the media on an external drive and internal SSD flash disk application. (FCP7) I was thought to keep them separate for optimal performance. Now, I hear very often to keep the libraries on SSD internal flash drive. Why? First of all I can't consolidate as images can fill the space.

Question #2. I am using a Seagate FW 800 as external, is replacement with USB 3.0 would improve performance?

Question #3. I have many USB 3.0 devices. I have to constantly to move as my iMac does not provide sufficient USB3.0 outs. I read that USB powered ports creates problems.

    Thank you.

P.S. One of the 3rd party plugins companies support highly advisable to keep the libraries on a flash SSD drive internal

    1. it may be a valid option to store the library on an SSD - especially if you travel and work on a laptop but I'm not hearing, saying that it is the best practice.  And you're right that media can fill disk quickly enough. What developer recommends it?

    2. Yes.  I guess that your connection to the FW drive is via an adapter Thunderbolt. So you should be really better off choosing a Thunderbolt drive.

    3. possibly. Maybe someone else will be chime.

  • Backup hard drives internal and external to separate the partitions on an external drive of a second... ?

I want to back up an internal hard drive (let's call it 'A') and (B) external drive using Time Machine. Both are 1 TB in size, so I bought a 2 TB external drive and created two partitions (C and D) on this subject, only to receive each backup. So:

    A = internal hard drive

B = external drive (for "overflow" files)

C = partition to external drive for backups of A

D = partition to external drive for backups of B

My question is, can I set up Time Machine so that A back up C, every time the 2 TB drive is connected, and B backup up to D whenever the two external drives are connected? I thought it would be possible, but at the opening of the Time Machine preferences and selecting D for the first time I get a message saying:

"You want to stop backup up to 'C' and use"D"instead or back up at the same time?

If you use the two, Time Machine will take turns backup up to "C" and "D". »

I wonder if it would just be easier to return to a single partition on the hard disk of 2 TB and have the time machine to perform a backup of everything, that is, both A and B?

Last question: I'm doing this to improve Yosemite to El Capitan. the operating system affect what I'm trying to get time Machine to do?

    Thank you!

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

I have a non-partitioned device TM backup of your data and your OS disk at once

If in case you partition and drive "B" needs more than what is on the partition and drive 'A' don't you avoid warning.

update of the OS is fine, as it will give an output back to a previous TM operating system where you need it, but it is compatible across versions.

  • Can't see C:\ drive after starting via SD card on an M200

    Hello.

I get a unmountable_boot_volume blue screen during windows loading so I'll try to repair or reinstall if necessary things. I was able to boot from the SD card and 9 (Targus CD-ROM) option seems to work on my CD-ROM drive external Iomega. The question I would ask is that once I'm in the BACK, I shouldn't be able to see the directories of windows on my hard drive? If I go to C:\ I don't see the content of the SD card. I can access the CD-ROM via the Q:\ drive and load the recovery CD - but the recovery CD-say it will erase everything. I would like to copy some files in Windows document to my SD card files before you reinstall - but I do not see the drive on which Windows is installed.

Is this normal or am I missing something?

    Hello

The error message unmountable_boot_volume its like a bad HDD or destroyed at the disk boot sector.
Sorry, but generally in such cases, the use of the Recovery CD is the best solution.

Have you checked if the BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

In my opinion you should check this first because you will not be able to copy all the files on the HARD drive if the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive.
But perhaps the hard drive is damage if the HARD disk does not appear in the BIOS.
In this case a replacement is necessary.

  • Satellite U840-10N - Windows Installation can not see any drive

Hi all, this is my first post so I hope that I chose the right place to post in.

I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite u840-10n ultrabook. He joined WIndows 7 Home Premium 320 GB HHD + SSD of 32 GB.

Even though I prefer Linux, I need Windows because of Microsoft Visual Studio. I downloaded Visual Studio (legally throught dreamspark.com), but it looks like it has some issues. In particular, I can't create any project.

After searching the Web for this problem, I decided to try reinstalling Windows, hoping that this will solve the problem, and here's the point.

Installation process of Windows 7 can not find any drive. I looked through the web a lot to solve this problem, even, without understanding.

I read a lot of other people had the same problem. I tried different ways and I'm about to throw the laptop out the window.

Is there anyone can help me?

    See you soon,.

You need to load the SATA driver before you start the installation of the OS. Try it please use the files from http://www.fileswap.com/dl/igfH0jVrap/

I used it on my Win8 preinstalled satellite to install Win7 64 bit. Copy it to USB and install from there.

  • T42 can't see hard drive

Happy new year everyone, hope it was a good Christmas break.

In the hope of an expert; I have a Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T42. The hard drive died so I replaced it. I bought a new hard drive and Windows 7. I can boot from the DVD and try to install but when I get to the section where I can choose where to install the OS I don't see the drive listed. I know the drive is good, as I tested it in another laptop and can see the drive in a caddy. I also see the drive in the BIOS, but I simply do not see as an option when you try to install the OS. The only option I have is to load a 3rd party driver to see if it works, but I've never had to do this before.

Any ideas to stop going me crazy and crying in the keyboard.

    Thanks in advance

    Martin

T42 does not have the above option in the BIOS as it was designed when the PATA disks were standard.

  • Windows 7 can not "see" the files on my external hard drive all of a sudden after I used ICACLS to give me full control.

I used ICACLS in a command prompt high to give me all permissions for all on the external hard drive. I do not share the disk or remove permissions from any other 'user' but all of a sudden the guest not to see the files on the disc and I don't know what to do about it. But when I open a window and go outside, the files are there, I can access it, use them in all cases, I would normally.

Anyone has an idea why an elevated command prompt would not be able to see the files that are clearly on the external hard drive? There is just something not right on command prompt, you see only not the files that are there.

    Thanks in advance

Update: it turns out that there seems to be some kind of conflict between the UAC and the Administrators group. Don't know how I was touched, but I finally finished refusing authorization in writing system on my external hard drive. Suddenly Builtin Administrator, users of Builtin and NT Authority stood, one of them, or another group, resumed training, locked read-only access to all files, and then he took it a little further and removed my ability to write attributes or read them. I was forced to use a back up 'Admin I have on standby with a third I reapplied my main administrator permissions, but still denied access. After doing things with ICACLS, I was able to get a partial control, but I still couldn't save.

At the end of the road, it turns out that an external hard drive formatted in NTFS is recognized by the computer as a disk fixed, as if it were part of the computer, and there it was treated as such, given my file system files by locking the.

Even with the hidden Builtin Administrator I activated, I couldn't access the files. I finally had to move all the girls to the drive c:\ and format the external drive with exFat so that the system do not think that he was part of the computer. Unfortunately, I can never depend on having a System Image backup because exFat cannot have a writing for her.

I have full access, as well as anyone and everyone, there is no permissions on exFat, so it's a compromise, better than the system for the control of my own computer ruined combat...

  • Why I can't see my files on my external hard drive on my Mac?

I got my mac less than a year.

I have an external hard drive (external hard drive, Silicon Power A80 - 2 to Armor) and I use it on my MacBook Pro and my PC.

Today I just plugged into my mac, and suddenly I saw this error. Should I really reformat because I have so many files it.

    Please help me fix.

    Thank you.

MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inch, mid-2014), OS X EL Capitan, Beta Version 10.11.

When you reformat you will delete also, that OK with you, or you want to keep the files stored there.

  • The Image separately two drives internal/5 external disk Partitions

I have a 650 GB and a drive of 1 TB internal and bought a 2 to external for backup.  Imagery can be put in place so if a single internal drive fails, can I replace it and restore only this player?  Can you also set up so that you can restore the C: partition only in the case of corruption?

I am running Vista Home Premium which is unable to do a full backup of the system.   I have an older version of Ghost that I'll try to update.  Ghost me get there?

Are the main reasons for imaging in the case where the operating system is corrupt or a virus that cannot be deleted and that the Windows system restore recover. (It's just what happened, but I was only saved data files). What is the best strategy to make regular updates to the image and not pick up corruption even?  Would a normal picture of differential backups let me return to a safe point in time which is not available if do incremental backups where the bit of archive is deleted, and you only have the last version of OS? Is there a better strategy?  A picture C: allows you to start or what I have to do a separate boot CD?  How do you do that?

Another related issue: Ghost use compression?  Via compression RAW photo files result in loss of quality as the conversion to JPEG compression do?

    Thank you very much!

Note that the image restoration is absolute, you can not restore animals and individual files.

    Best thing (in my opinion)

Create an image of the C (OS disk) driver, keep doing your differential backups.

Restore your computer from a system image backup

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/restore-your-computer-from-a-system-image-backup

Restore a system image will restore your computer. Restore restored once the differential back ups.

Who should you get. But then, it's just me. You can wait to get suggestions from other experienced users.

Personally, I use Acronis and would not know of Norton Ghost.

  • can not see the drives in my computer

I use windows xp sp3, I'm created 10 leave that off that c is the primary drive. out of 10 partations its showing only 6 were leaving when I'm trying to restore the pc is showing the following massage "drives D: G: H: I: changes after this point caanot reversed because the drivewas excluded from System Restore monitoring, or has been disable or removed.", when I see his watch free space in disk management How can I restore my missing records or how can I activate the readers. I have the disk hard id 3. Help, please

first of all, if you try to use system restore to solve the problem of partitioning, it won't work.

Second, there are some programs that don't do a good job with partitioning of disk partitioning.

Basically, it seems that the drive that you created have not listed by windows.

what you might try is to revive your partition program and see if 'he' sees these missing discs.

then try to have windows search for new material, via Add Hardware Control Panel.

either way, what partition software have you used and you run the program from a cd or from inside windows?

Unfortunately Yes. You can try to update the SATA drive and see if you can get it to show a normal SATA, but it it's SCSI go it won't be able to see.

  • How can I save D drive on an external device (drive C is SSD) D is the partition

I have a new Dell XPS 8500 Windows 7 with a SSD 250 (C and OS holding) and a disk partitioned d for photos, documents, etc.  I am able to backup C on an external device, but can I also do for D?  If this isn't the case, I have to copy everything manually?

    GM

It depends on what you use to perform the backup.  The built in and more 3rd-3rd party apps will allow you to save an external USB drive.

My choice would be Acronis true image home 2013.  The test of the balls, easy to use and is free to try.
