Cannot access information on external hard drive in Garland

I have two FireWire G-drive hard daisy chained and connected to my iMac. I am able to access the information for once, but after a while I can't access information from it anymore.

For libraries of Final Cut Pro, it will say "Final Cut Pro cannot save the changes to the library."

For iPhoto libraries, he will say it is "Impossible to write in the"[name of library]"library." Check that you are allowed to write to the directory of the library.

When you try to move anything in the Finder, it will say "the operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code-50).

So the temporary solution that worked so far is to stop the iMac, disconnect both drives, start the computer, and then connect again. This will cause growth to work again, but only for a time very short before send me mistakes once again.

How can I fix?

Thank you

I hope you both of these backup discs because they failed to comply and when they do, you may lose all your data. Don't do anything until you know that the data is safe. Have you run disk utility to try to repair the disks?

  • If I have "Everyone" grant access to an external hard drive, which means that everyone connected to my network?

I finally understood how to allow those that are related to my network to access my external hard drive, or so I think...

If I have "Everyone" add to my safety for the external hard drive and I concede that "Everyone" control total, this means that these signed to my correct home network?

I want to just make sure that the people not connected to my network (which is password protected) cannot access the hard disk.

Thank you in advanced for your answer!

Not everyone wants to say exactly that any connection to the drive can access. To restrict access, you must set the account in some way. In a workgroup, there is no definition of the global account for all accounts have access or each user must be explicitly included.

Even all the computers in a home group have an additional account generated to allow cross access.

  • Access to an external hard drive

Hi, I hope someone can help me understand this cause I'm running out of things to check.  I'm under Fusion Version 3.1.1 on a Macbook Pro with OS X Version 10.6.4.  I have a computer virtual running Windows XP PRO SP2 Build 2600.  I'm trying to connect a USB hard drive (Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition) external on the virtual computer.  When I connect the external hard drive, the virtual machine is able to recognize the drive as a USB device and connects to him.  I am able to go through the file structure and to read the data in the virtual machine.  But when I try to write to the disk of the virtual machine, all I get is a message "error copying file or folder.  The window basically says "cannot copy XYZ: access denied."  Make sure that the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. "I made sure all the files I'm trying to copy are not open.  I also checked the write to the target folder permissions and it seems to be in writing.  The hard drive is formatted in NTFS and there are hundreds of GB free.  Thanks for your time!

What you describe resembles Windows ownership / permission settings do not allow to write.  Did you check the ownership / permissions for the root of the drive down to the folder that you want to write? Is your current user explicitly listed on the Security tab, or at least a group of your username is a member with Scripture, or all permissions?

I don't think it of a matter of the merger itself, seems to be more a question of windows.

  • No access to an external hard drive

So I plugged my external hard drive in my macbook to move some files on it but it says "the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." I clicked on initialize and he said: the hard drive is uninitalised and Mont and partition are grayed out. I ran the option of first aid, but he only said: the operation completed successfully. I am aware of that my external hard drive works because it is blue is lit and I used it a few days ago and it worked fine. I also plugged into another usb key I have and it works perfectly.

Is there anyway for me to access my files on the external hard drive? I really don't want to lose my photos and files!

The external hard drive is a tough drive 320 freecom.

the light means power can get to the case, not the drive past any integrity checking. If the drive is older it may break or it could have been failure, or requires 3rd party software to allow full access, if it is NTFS formatted for windows and you use it on a mac.

If you do not backup your data may be missing. If you start the boot disk process, you have already started to remove the files and more you try using that drive less whatever it is (if any) can be recovered.

Freecom offers guarantees of 3 years on their mechanical hard drives but offers no guarantee with recovery of lost data (no company only)

    http://www.Freecom.com/warranty

If your player is longer than 3 years its not rare that its failure and should be replaced with a new unit.

In the meantime, you can try a 3rd party solution such as Disk Warrior or rescue for Mac to see if something can be saved, but still no service company forensic or data will always claim that they can do it with any degree of certainty to recover your data.

  • Access to an external hard drive in XP

I have an external hard drive that was working well until a few days ago. When I recently tried to access, the drive was visible in 'My Computer'. However, when I double-clicked to open it, I got a message saying "insert disk". I tried on Windows 7, which produced similar results, as well as on a Mac, which does not recognize.

I wonder if the external hard disk enclosure must be replaced. Although it comes on when turned on, I hear not a running engine as I did in the past.

    Try to run, type: diskmgmt.msc

' In msc, L.click hard disk, go to actions, all, select 'make active "".

close when thru. If its already set to this, try to connect to another

port, xp will reinstall it on reboot.

  • Access denied on external hard drive.

I have an external drive, which works perfectly well. But I've just updated from vista to W7, and now I can not access the disk from that specific computer. I get access denied. On the properties, all users have full access. And the funny part is on my other computer, with the exact same OS, the drive works perfectly. So, I expect that there is a setting that I didn't know.
Is there someone with good ideas on how to solve this problem?

Hi I tried your instructions below to restore all my administrator permissions full on my external hard drive.

    1. click on Start , click all programs , and click Accessories .
    2. right click on command prompt , and then click run as administrator .
    3. in administrator: command prompt window.
    4. type
takeown /F (external drive letter) and press ENTER.
    5 type
CACLS (external drive letter) /G Administrator: F and press enter

After that I followed these steps, my computer Windows 7 says that the drive is not accessible.  I plugged it to my old XP computer, and it also says "access denied."  I have a huge amount of important files there and I need to restore access, but I can't find an answer for how to cancel the steps I followed.  Please tell me how to reverse the steps I did your earlier suggestion.

I recently bought and installed a MyBook 2 t Western Digital network drive.  It installed fine and I can see listed on the 'Computer' desktop and icon within the Norton backup program.  I have setup my regular backup routines successfully.  On the bottom: I recently lost a hard drive and replaced with a new one and spent several days to restore the system and install any patches, etc.  It was particularly difficult to get the installed Windows 7 SP1.  I wanted to install this drive external hard to use Windows built-in Backup and Restore to "create a system image.  When I select this option, the program asks me where I want to save the backup. • Windows 8 cannot connect to the external hard drive after you have added the drive case.

Original title: I have my hard drive from my previous PC attached to my new PC with windows 8. My old PC had XP. How to access the external hard drive?

I had problems with my XP operating system and could not transfer all the files to my new PC. I spoke with Dell who I believe created the problem with software support. I was told to get out the hard drive, buy a hard drive enclosure and get my files from there. I can't find the hard drive.

    Hello

    Thank you for the update.

Given that the problem occurs when the hard drive is connected to a different USB port or another computer, it is probably related to the connection of the hard disk.

Method 1: check if the problem occurs in another computer after removing the hard disk enclosure.

    Method 2:

Step 1: Check if the hard drive is detected in Windows Explorer.

To do this, follow these steps:

    a. connect the hard disk of the computer.

    b. press the Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer.

    c. check if the hard drive is present here.

Step 2: Check if the hard drive is detected in disk management.

To do this, follow these steps:

    a. on the desktop, press the Windows key + X , and then select disk management.

    b. check if the hard drive is listed there.

Contact the manufacturer of the hard drive and hard drive enclosure for assistance.
