I found the problem (s), even if I am always left with a few questions.

During this process, I have disabled the firewall, but that did not help. However, I noticed 'tweaks' accessed via the tab 'Advanced' in 'Microsoft Firewall' which looked like, they must be checked in order to access the internet. I checked these and reintroduced the firewall. After I got things working, I unchecked them and things still worked so I obviously don't understand what these parameters.

    The solution:

    (1) I have to go straight from the modem cable to the computer. I can't have a cable modem, router wireless, computer, even if using hard wire, and even if this same configuration works with another computer. Also, I can't use a cable length to go from modem to the computer. So, it seems to have had a problem of cable length. Power problem? Only connected to this computer devices are the mouse, the keyboard and the Ethernet. Would not this be fixed with an upgrade of the power supply? Or is it due to the quality of the Ethernet hardware on the motherboard? It's a Dell Vostro 200.

    (2) in back and forth between configurations while following the problem, you must think to unplug the modem to reset between each configuration. You may have stumbled upon the solution, otherwise he's not shot. Also, I unplugged the cable from the modem when you reset data cable - do not know if it was necessary. I wanted to limit the degrees of freedom that I had a lot, as it was.

It is under WinXP SP3 fully corrected.
I've updated the drivers Broadcom (sp45515.exe worm 4.0.100.1189 file) on the HP site week without result.
I get connectivity, is not a crucial issue, it's just a little embarrassing. Any suggestion is welcome.

Check the settings of the connection. f it is in automatic mode, change it to manual. That should get rid of this message.

  • Cannot acquire IP address, or to renew or repair... How to fix this?

I'm trying to help my friend to get his work computer. For some reason, it cannot acquire an address of network on a wired or Wi - Fi. The strangest thing about all this is that I am able to connect to my wireless network but it says that I have little or no connectivity. Just for the heck of it, I was able to connect to my router (IP: 192.168.0.1) and has been invited for a connection.

My IP address when connected to wifi is 0.0.0.0 and my subnet mask is 0.0.0.0... everything else has no value.

One strange thing I noticed right away, is that when I run 'ipconfig' the 'the connection-specific DNS suffix"has been set to"aDomainName.net"which has the same area as his previous ISP name. I removed that there is NO suffix more. That has not changed a thing. So here's what I've tried:

    • The TCP/IP value to set a static IP address and even separate servers DNS (OpenDNS).
    • Repair the connection.
    • Remove winsock and winsock2 registry, and then restart. Hoping that windows would create new and solve the problem.
    • Any registry winsock and winsock2 starting from the backups that I did.
    • Tried flushing DNS with: "ipconfig/flushdns" and running "ipconfig / renew" I got the following error message:

"No operation can be performed on the connection to the LAN, so it has its media disconnected

An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection: the RPC server is unavailable. »

    • Before and after removing the winsock from registry, I also tried running: "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and received the following error:

"The procedure entry point MigraeWinsockConfiguration cannot be locatred in MSWSOCK.dll dynamic link library."

    Can someone help me?

A few comments (which can not solve your problem, but it's late)

    1. the "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" part of IPv6 (the new version of the TCP/IP Protocol).  It is almost never necessary in personal computers, especially the XP computers.  (BTW, what version of XP is installed, including service pack?)

    • Open network connections (start > run > ncpa.cpl > OK)
    • Right-click on the icon for your network adapter (you should do this on the connection to the LAN (wired) and the wireless adapter) and select Properties.
    • On the general tab, look in the list of "this connection uses the following items.
    • Most Windows XP-based computers must have a maximum of 4 following
      • Client for Microsoft networks
      • QoS Packet Scheduler
      • File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks
      • Internet (TCP/IP) Protocol
    • If you see an item for IPv6, select it and click the uninstall
    • OK your way out

    2. I'm a little skeptical about this KB article.  The registry key to designate "CurrentControlSet" instead of "ControlSet001", I would have expected

Any, however.  Use the Services applet to confirm the appropriate dependency:

    • Click Start > run > services.msc > OK
    • DHCP client scroll down and double-click
    • Click the Dependencies tab and wait that it is filled.  It should show
      • SFM network support environment
      • NetBT
      • TCP/IP protocol driver

If you expand (by clicking on the +), TCP/IP protocol driver will be also under NetBT and IPSEC driver will be under (two places) TCP/IP protocol driver

Assuming that everything is there (and it probably is), the next thing to check is if all these "Addictions" are running.

    • Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
    • Type of entry following, pressing after each line

      SC query afd
      SC query netbt
      SC query tcpip
      SC query ipsec

You should get the following result which shows the State of all 4 as 'operational '.

  • Acquiring network address number

One of my users has a HP Pavilion notebook dv6000, XP Media Center Edition, SP3, MS updates to date.   I cleaned the system of viruses, malware, spyware, adware are about 2 weeks and everything worked great - fast and efficient.

    the problem is:
Users used the home laptop to connect to internet through their company of cable using DHCP, and the laptop had been works correctly after I had cleaned up two weeks ago. the user he brought him back to the office and said that it does not connect to the internet.  I plugged the laptop in the network of companies and of course, it does not connect to the network.  After running all software malware/virus/spyware/adware to see if something prevented the connection, and they came up with zippo.
because the laptop is set up for DHCP I thought I'll try static IP and it worked.  I was able to connect to the internet, surfing etc.  I went back to DHCP and still get to acquire network address and does not connect to the internet.

Any ideas as to why it does not connect via DHCP.  All my computers at the office work properly on DHCP.  It's just the laptop which is seen the question... in our office and his home.

    some added info:
I was told that his son installed Skype on the laptop after that I had cleaned the computer a couple of weeks.  It is the only software that has been installed on the laptop on but the laptop was working fine, after that he installed Skype.  Just for ha - ha's, I uninstalled Skype and usefulness of the tool bar to see if the connection to the internet would work with DHCP, but it has no effect.

There is a wireless adapter to the laptop I have turn off and tried to get on the internet using DHCP, no luck.

First of all, make sure that your DHCP Service is running:

    Start-> Run-> "services.msc".

Then, look for the line "DHCP Client" and ensure that its status is "started" and Startup Type is "automatic".  Double-click it to change.

Second, make sure that there is no firewall blocking port 67 or 68 for DHCP.

Thirdly, try to reset your IP stack:

Finally, try one of the following repair programs:

  • The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer.

OK, it seems to be coming a lot but no one was able to respond (including Microsoft) so I'll ask, and be as specific as possible.

Because I work with vector art that I constantly have to save files by crush the and everything was cool with WinXP pro.  I have Win7 Pro and everything was cool, until recently.  Whenever I tried to overwrite my files, I would get an error message saying that the file was either dead or opened elsewhere, but it has happened about 50% of the time.  A launch the re-registration of files with different names.  After obtaining the files re-registered I then try to remove and rename files, but found I couldn't do it anymore, as I was constantly getting the error message "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer."  Closing and reopening the browser do nothing.  Someone said if not empty the trash bin works, but not for me.  The files are on an external drive, I tried to disable the cache of writing by Device Manager and Windows Management Console (or other) frozen and took the pc with it (nice work, MS!).  Reboot seems to fix the problem for a bit, but he returned quickly and randomly.  It also seems to randomly select to lock files.  Some files I can not change, some that I can.  Others begin to operate after some time of inactivity.

I tried to disable thumbnails in Explorer and even added a DWORD NoThumbnailCache in the registry, but it still happens.  Basically, I'll have to save all of the new files over and over again and that from time to time be able to remove the "old" while being only randomly too write others.  This question seems to be infestation Vista and Win7 and people have waited for a fix, Microsoft, but was mum on the issue.  If anyone can come up with a solution, it would be great.  It is killing my productivity!

    Common guys...
Im having this problem too and I've been thought IE9 is at the origin of the problem, some how, I don't want to disturb...

    Here are some solutions:
Please note that I'm looking, there is not any solution patch for this program by Microsoft, you can maintain it yourself. And correct solutions in this way losses.

    Solution 1: Use CMD.
0 - note the following 3 steps will complete the process explorer.exe, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open files and any associated process would stop.
    1. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
2 - go to the processes tab.
3 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
    4. now, click the menu file-> new task (run...)
5 type CMD, and then click OK.
    6. now you can do something you couldn't have done before with this user interface. Some useful commands:
-cd: change the current directory. Use 'CD..' to the 'button' in windows Explorer.
-dir: lists the existing file and folders in the directory current. Use ' dir/p' to the list in the pages.
-del [file name]: removes the file [filename] existing in the current directory.
-Rename [name of file] [new file name]: rename the file [old file name] existing or a file existing in the current directory to [new file name].

Solution 2: Use a different file manager.
0 - install and run another Manager file as "XYPlore".
1 Note that the following 3 steps will end your explorer.exe process, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open records and all other related processes would cease.
    2. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
3 - go to the processes tab.
4 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
    5. use XYPlore UI and do what you want.
Please note that the problem could happen with this kind of external explorers too. So close any file and go into a secure after your working directory.

    Solution 3: Do it yourself!
If you can program, there are some codes that might help you. These codes which talks about Im, says MS Windows to remove your annoying pinned files just before you shut down the system.
    Here is an example:
    MoveFileEx ('C:\windows\system32\ld21E.tmp', nil, MOVEFILE_REPLACE_EXISTING or MOVEFILE_DELAY_UNTIL_REBOOT);
This code will work correctly in Delphi from Borland compilers, and as you can see, the "ld21e.tmp" file is deleted after compiling this code and restart your windows.

I wish I can do better, as to publish an Explorer that do what you want automatically, so I hope that these can be useful.
Some how you can check this thread too, it may be useful:

  • Size (size of the incompatible displayed ico file) Windows icons

Size (size of the incompatible displayed ico file) Windows icons.

After resizesing my medium to large desktop icons I see several icons are not become larger. Unlike most of my icons, he remained the same size, but instead, they were in the Center and a greyframe. As a result, he started the project of change all the icons in some new. ICO files which would give them the great nice to register in the other size. After that my work was done, I had a nice full Office of the great pretty icons, all of the same size and none inside a gray frame. I reboot (restart) my computer and saw, to my horror, this (see photo) all of a sudden a random amount of icons has chosen to go back to being small and sit inside a gray frame. I don't see any explanation as to what size of icons changed.

I try to change the display settings for size (control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display) in 125% and 150%. Both times it switches around which the icons are large and small. so apparently no model at all. I restart again and find 2 icons went big and 4 other small. It's an amazing incompatible and it amazes me why windows this. Why can't keep windows icons (ICO) files to their proper size? (all my ico files support all sizes, as far as I know, and they have developed scale perfectly up down before the 1. Restart)

It's incredibly frustrating. MY question is. Can I just to force Windows to use the maximum size, or somehow it resolved so that windows will scale icons up and down properly?

    Hi Benjamin,

    Please contact Microsoft Community.

    Just a few questions first, to get a clear picture of the issue;

    1. What is the size of ICO file? Is - this (256 x 256)?

In Windows 7, App icons and Control Panel items must be in the .ico file format and all should includes following sizes of icons.

    • 16 x 16.
    • 32 x 32.
    • 48 x 48.
    • 256 x 256.

According to the guidelines of the screenshot, there is a difference in size ofcon I have, I suggest you to download the package of icon for the application you want to change the icons according to the dimensions mentioned above.

Note: Display in Windows 7 allows you to make text and other items large, such as icons, on the screen you, while keeping your display to its optimal resolution.

We answer with the result, then we can help you further.

  • Windows XP cannot connect to DSL Wireless Modem - locked mode "Acquiring Network Address", never connects. Broadcom wireless card

I have a HP ZV5000 laptop, who has recently suffered a hard drive crash. I replaced the drive reinstalled the operating system and it is running Windows XP Home Professional with Service Pack 3 installed.

When you attempt to connect to a wireless network, it finds all those that are generally available, but won't connect.

The properties indicates that the laptop uses "Broadcom 802. "11b / g WLAN. (Broadcom website isn't much help. The site seems to be mostly press releases).

I am told that it worked (I can't confirm this, as the player crashed when I got it).

Any suggestions? If there is any other information necessary to solve this, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to provide.

    Thanks in advance!

    How do you reinstall Windows?

If you use a Microsoft Windows XP installation CD, you must install all of the drivers as well.  If you have reinstalled using any method HP supplies to 'restore factory State' you will have already installed the drivers.

If you can get to the Internet by connecting to the laptop using an Ethernet cable, you can go HERE and click the button "Scan Now" to make sure that you have all the correct drivers.

However, because you can see the available wireless networks, it seems that you have at least a certain driver installed for your wireless network card.

The usual reason that a wireless adapter cannot acquire a network address is the router's security settings are not allowing the connection.

The best way to deal with misconfigured security settings is to remove the 'profile' currently registered and try to connect again.

Open network connections (start > run > ncpa.cpl > OK)
Right-click on the icon for your wireless adapter and select Properties
Click the Wireless Networks (see screenshot)
If the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network" box is NOT checked, you use a third-party utility to configure the adapter and need to read its User Guide to determine how to remove the 'profile' to connect to your router.
Assuming that the box is checked, find SSID (network name) router in the list of "Preferred networks" and click 'delete '.
    OK your way out
Find your network in the list of available networks, and then click 'connect '. Make sure you enter the password correctly.

If this does not work, the next step would be to connect to the router by an Ethernet cable, temporarily remove all security settings that are configured on the router, remove the "My network places" configuration as above and try to connect again.

    Hello

Try the methods provided below and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Try the steps in the link below to force a network adapter to acquire an IP address

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/hnw_dc_conn_repair.mspx?mfr=true

    Method 2:

If the step above do not contribute to try to renew the IP address.

    To renew your IP address:

un) Open windows command prompt Start\ Run\cmd\ok

    b) to release your Ip address ipconfig/release

    c) to renew your IP address ipconfig/renew

    d)      Exit

  • HELP linksys wireless USB adapter: (model # WUSB54GC) "acquiring network address" not actually connect to the internet! ?? Windows xp pro

Hello. Ive been at this for 4 days now, I can't find a solution. I'll try to remember as much as possible regarding what ive tried.

    here goes...

long story short, due to unfortunate system errors, I have reinstalled my OS XP home to xp pro. PC works great now! problem is... now my wireless adapter wont connect to the internet.

When I had xp home edition installed, I could just plug in the adapter, and a few seconds, it would connect to the favorite network. (with all settings on Auto) no problem.

now that ive put in OS, it's just cycling "absorbing the network address" infinitely...

his watch the access point, the preferred network, showing the signal strength and do not show errors in Device Manager. right-click and choosing fix do not work. It gets stuck @ renewing IP address scene. its not send or receive packets under status.

He EXPECTED to be functional? It uses a 10-digit WEP key.

Ive tried both the linksys wireless monitor and the windows zero configuration utilites.i since removed the lynksys software screen because it never worked anyway. WZC is that used to work on xp family.

I used " ipconfig/all" to determine the values of the network on the host pc. I tried manually punching in those values (IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS settings, according to the suggestion of a networking of friends) on the adapter wireless itself; using tci/ip options. still does not connect.

Ive tried different USB ports, all that seems to do is to change the number of the wireless connection.

It just does not connect to the internet.

I have the driver I need for this after contacting linksys. I also disabled windows firewall and the firewall/antivirus of 3rd party associated with the network.

He knows questions w / windows xp professional and this particular wireless adapter? (WUSB54GC) that's the only reason why I can think of that is not connected.

what I forget? internet hard wiring of an ethernet port is not an option because there is no ethernet card installed in the pc.

any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

    Thank you.

Sorry it took so long for me to return.

It was a setting under working group which had to be adjusted from reinstalling windows. (something that has been disabled I forgot, don't remember what it was since its been like 3 weeks)

that he got the running dhcp... That is to say. allowed 4 dependence to work progrmas, boom, problem solved.

the adapter now works with the automatic settings, using WEP encryption. as it should, and it was.

Thank you very much for the replies, I appreciated the help.
