  I bought my own windows Vista and I'm the only one who uses the product key for this one. Is the computer that I use my laptop and I would reformat my laptop 2 - 3 times a year with the same Vista with the same product key. In the past when I reformat it, active window very well.

  (1) run chkdsk as follows:

  A prompt by right clicking and select "Run as Administrator"
  and then at the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f r, then press the Enter key.

• Cannot activate windows, or use the control panel

  After searching the forum, I decided to post that I couldn't find something that relates to my question.  I've never had a problem like this before, nor have I heard of someone having a problem like this before.

  I had a problem where multiple items in Control Panel do not work.  First of all, I thought I might miss an update, but that didn't work either.  I remembered that I have been turned off of the windows activation.  When I go in Panel of-> system and click "you must activate today. Activate Windows now" nothing happens. Nothing at all.

  I first encountered this problem when I was trying to manage my firewall settings: Panel-> control panel all the elements-> Windows Firewall-> authorized programs.  

  Trying to allow a program through Windows Firewall. When I tried to click on "Allow another program" the same thing happened (absolutely nothing happened).  I followed this with trying to turn off my windows firewall completely, expecting the OS to get out the big warning saying that my computer is not protected please reactivate, etc..  I turned both outside the home and private and Public networks OFF and clicked on OK, and once again, nothing happened.

  I don't know how long this problem has affected my computer, because I did not need to change the settings of Windows for at least a couple of months.  Other things I tried to do that it does include:

After these things, that I tried to run the repair installed and I couldn't do it, he could not see one of my old files. So I had to do a fresh install.
