Cannot add icon on the desktop
I just installed a program call CCCleaning using Download.com. After you install the software to clarify on any virus that I might have, I rebooted my computer. Once started all my icon on my desk right away. When I try to right click on my mouse, nothing appears. So what I did I pres Ctrl + Alt + Delete, the the window Task Manager appears. When I select the new task, I can pick a certain program it will open. BUT when I try to drag an icon on the desktop, it won't let me. Looks like they disable me to run any shortcut on the desktop. I can open all programs unless I open the Task Manager window and select new task.
So, I would like to know what I did wrong? Can someone solve this for me?
Thank you!
Hello
Follow these methods mentioned below and check if that helps.
Method 1: Perform a system restore and see if that helps.
Perform a system restore will take your computer to a previous state, when he did not face such a problem, this can be done by selecting the correct restore point.

Add icon on the desktop of the Windows 7 taskbar
I just finished installing Windows 7 upgrade from Vista 32 bit. On Vista, I had an icon in my taskbar to take me directly to the desktop. I have not found a way to get this icon on Windows 7. I don't want to have to do a right click on an open space in the taskbar and then click Show Desktop. Previously, it was easy to copy pictures to my desktop simply by dragging them on the desktop icon in the taskbar. I would like to be able to do it again. Thank you
You should have the show desktop icon in the SysTray in the lower right of the toolbar. If you want an icon on the taskbar, see this.

Cannot move icons on the desktop or copy & paste
All of a sudden I can't move my desktop icons (despite the parameter align to the grid or auto align). I can not copy & paste also. I started using the safe, but it's the same thing like that. I also tried the system restore, but nothing works. I noticed the problem copy & paste a few days ago, but since I don't use that much, it never crossed my mind it was a problem. What he does now is to highlight a complete word (as in copy - paste), even if I don't have to. I have a 2 years old Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Any suggestions?
Hi stephanie
Thank you for your response. I had ran several different scans & did the system restore... It turns out it was my wireless mouse. Replaced the mouse & everything will work as before.

How to add desktop icons
Hello
You don't say what operating system you are using, but it's basically the same procedure:
Click Start > programs > find the program in the list you want to make a desktop shortcut icon > right click on the name of the program he > then move your mouse cursor on ' send to ' > then select desktop (create shortcut), or words like that.
See you soon.
PS You can also do the same thing with the programs listed on the left side of the start menu.

Icons cannot be moved on the desktop
I just changed my desktop image. I noticed the trash moved to the side left (he was on the right side at the start) in line with my other icons. When I try to drag the icon to the trash to another area on the desktop, it jumps to the left side. What I've done wrong?
It seems that "Auto arrange" has set in motion.
Right-click on an empty space on your desktop, then:
Organize the icons in-> uncheck "auto arrange".
"Icons disappear or that you cannot move icons on the desktop".

All icons on the desktop have turned to photo viewer and cannot open these programs
I recently had my computer up to date. Everything was fine until I put my memory stick in the laptop and tried to download my back upwards. Now, when I turn the laptop on the icons does not load and are all stuck in photo viewer and I cannot open programs at all. Can anyone help please, thank you
Original title: icons on the desktop
I'm not 100% sure but I think that you are having a bad "file extension association. This is where the default program to open a file is incorrect. In the case of your office, these are all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) and the. LNK Association was by mistake coupled with Photo Viewer.
I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you have selected the photo viewer (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in the Photo Viewer as it should.
The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by the photo viewer and often use the icon Photo Viewer to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.
The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unASSOC for its ease of use.
You can get a copy of my OneDrive here. I used to send people elsewhere to download a copy, but this page is more in addition to confusion with misleading ads to download this and this computer of powders of snake oil "fixed".
Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

I tried the following steps with no luck.
1 Control Panel / System / Advanced / Performance tab / button settings and tick: shadows fall to use the desktop icon labels
2. display properties-> Desktop-> Desktop Customize-> Web-> "Lock desktop items" and "my current Home Page" is not checked.
Any suggestion would be appreciated...

need to create the icon on the desktop for ms security essentials and cant even find in my programs (I know its there, says Action Center turned on)
You see in the Notification area? Right-click on an empty spot. Properties | Customize Notification icons and adjust the setting for the MSE icon.
If you must have the it on the desktop: start | All programs. Right-click on MSE and create a shortcut on the desktop.

I suggest you try the steps from the following link:When you run an .exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7 computer file, the file may start another program
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505Note: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article: back up the registry in Windows 7
Method 2
The issue could be due to the virus on the computer. I suggest you run virus scanner online by using the Microsoft safety scanner.Microsoft safety scanner

when you do an antivirus online, you will lose data that are affected by the virus. Microsoft is not responsible for the loss of this data. -
Windows 7 - How can I get rid of an "All Control Panel items" icon on the desktop?
Only, I've migrated to Vista Ultimate x 64 to Windows 7 Professional x 64. I used Laplink to move all my users, programs, and settings. Everything is great, except now there is an icon on the desktop for all my users that I can't get rid of - it connects to the control panel and is called "All Control Panel items" - it cannot be deleted or moved to the Recycle Bin. Make a right click on it brings up a menu with 'open' and 'create a shortcut' by dragging it to the trash does not delete it.
If I am right cick on the desktop and add Control Panel to the items displayed on the desktop, a second control Panel icon appears with the same picture, but the text is just 'control panel '.
I don't know there is a registry key that I have to remove or adjust but after a lot of research can't find anything.
Open the Publisher of the registry (Regedit.exe) and navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace]
Backup the key by exporting to a REG file.
Expand the branch above and delete the following subkey:
{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
(The above is the GUID for "All Control Panel items" Namespace)Similarly, to remove the entry here (if found)
