Cannot change how the important windows updates are installed 7

I can't change the settings of "Windows Update".  I don't want Windows to automatically restart my system so I put it to 'Application prior to installation', but this morning it is automatically installed and rebooted.  Now, I don't have the ability to change the parameters, as if I'm not administrator.  The option is there, but not highlighted for to change me.

Hey CGEnterprise,

To the configurable options for automatic updates, follow these steps.

Important: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following windows Help article.

Back up the registry

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

Step 1:

1. go to start and type regedit.exe.

2. go to this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

3. in the right pane, delete the two values AUOptions and NoAutoUpdate

4. go to that location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate

5. in the right pane, delete the DisableWindowsUpdateAccess value

Using the Group Policy Editor

Notes:

o you must have administrative privileges to perform these tasks.

o Group Policy Editor is only available in the professional edition, full and Windows 7 Enterprise edition. You will not have the Publisher of local group policy available in Windows 7 Starter and Home Premium editions.

Step 2:

1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER.

2. navigate to the following location:

Computer configuration > administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Update

3 in the right pane, double-click Configure automatic updates and set it to not configured

4. then, go to this location:

User configuration > administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Update

5. in the right pane, set to remove access to all Windows Update features on not configured

  • How to control the Windows updates are installed on the Windows Surface of RT

I recently had to perform a refresh to solve the problem with desktop on the desktop icons that appear as spaces. After the update, I had to reinstall the update for Office 2013. When I went to Windows Update to do this, I found it with a group of 9 other updates, these 9 were all marked as ready for download and installation, Office 2013 update is not checked. I disabled the office 2013 update and not the other 9 updates, thinking that I could make those after I had Office installed upgrading so I would like to know if my taskbar icon problem has been resolved. At the bottom of the screen even when the Office update was the only update checked I chose to install updates. The Surface actually installed all updates, not only the update of Office.

Have reset the laptop to an earlier date and no problem, but as soon as I download the update of windows, no internet access

" Original title: blocked internet access"

    Hi Eugene,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to solve the problem. However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. What is the type of internet connection you use - wired or wireless?
    2. Do you get any error message when there is no internet access?
    3. What is the number of KB of the update, after which the internet disconnects?

[To view your history of update:]
    a. Open Windows Update by sliding into the right edge of the screen (or, if you are using a mouse, pointing to the corner bottom right of the screen, move the mouse upward), touching or clicking on parameters, typing or clicking on Change PC, then type or by clicking on update and recovery.
[ b. press or click on see your update history.]

The question could arise if the specific update makes changes in the Windows network properties and the update package has been damaged. Other important reasons include the firewall from the security software, third-party software conflicts etc.

In order to diagnose the problem, I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Method 1: Troubleshooting of connection Internet run.

    a. press the Windows key + W key on the keyboard.

    b. type Troubleshooting in the "search" tab and press enter.

    c. click show all on the left panel.

    d. click on Internet connection, will new popup window.

    e. follow the instructions on the screen.

Let us know the results performing the Troubleshoot utility.

    Method 2:

Reset the DNS and TCP/IP settings.

    1. Press the Windows key + X.
    2. Click prompt (Admin).
    3. Please enter the following commands and press ENTER after each one.
      NETSH INT IP RESET
      IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS

Restart the computer to check the issue.

If the problem persists, refer to the following method.

    Method 3:

Temporarily disable the security software and check if it helps.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most

cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
