Cannot change the Vista hosts file

I started Notepad as administrator and open my hosts file, made my changes, but when I try to save it I get this message: cannot create the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file verify that the path and the name are correct

How to save this file? Thanks for any help!

Hello

The host files are linked to the internet explore and this is why it must be very careful when you change them. And this is the reason why they were safe as to change. We have a FixIT tool to assign default host files. It's here.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/972034 also, here is the article that explains how to change the host files and the Lmhosts file in Windows Vista and Windows 7. You cannot change the Hosts file or the Lmhosts file in Windows Vista and Windows 7

When I edit the file oratab/etc/oratab . change of N to Y for + ASM and restart the system, then it seems the value N is not changed to Y. But changed to the database, as shown below.

    ora11g:/U01/app/Oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1:Y

    QUESTIONS!

    1. when I edit oratab/etc/oratab file manually why second saved row (N changed to Y manually) but the first line, become not registered (although changed N to Y) again after restarting the system?

    2. after the restart of the database system and ASM starts automatically even if the line is not changed in there above (in oratab file) for ASM. Why and how can I change to Y? Or if I should change the N to o or not?

3 - is sufficient to edit N to o in the oratab file ASM and database start ASM and automatically data base? I think that there will be a few other scripts must be created in the directory /etc/init.d/ for an automatic start.

PLEASE, HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM!

    Thank you!!!

Since it is 11g, please check config crsctl as owner of the ASM House and if it is enabled then process Oracle has begin fearful, ocssd etc and then start ASM ASM being a part of the GI houses databases. You should not change in oratab since it is automatically supported by the AP in 11g.

  • Cannot change the long mp3 file

    Hello

I use Audition 3.0.1.  As part of our research in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, we record telephone interviews that last usually about an hour.  We record using Stepvoice Recorder set in mono at 64 Kbps, 22050 khz frequency of registration.  One of our investigators somehow managed to let Recorder run for more than 14 hours, by creating a file of 2.95 GB in size.  I can read this file using the Stepvoice Recorder or Windows Media Player.  I can open the file in Adobe Audition, but it opens as a block full of random noise.  My goal is to be able to truncate everything except the first hour of the audio in this file.  I tried opening mp3Pro and Raw PCM with the same result. Whatever it is, the hearing pushes me with the dialog box "interpreting Sample Format under" and I select the sampling frequency = 22050, channels = Mono and resolution = 16 bits.  Then I'm greeted by the dialog box "PCM RAW files (without header)" with "16 bit PCM Intel... "selected.  I just click Ok here because I don't know what to say.  Then I get a big green block of the noise.

Does anyone know the secrets to get the Audition to open this file and I'd like to truncate?  Are there other (preferably free) products that would allow me to do this?  Any help appreciated... Thank you!

    Bruce

Hearing opens all files in .wav files. What are uncompressed to the original .mp3. The maximum size of a .wav file is 2 GB (a little more than 3 hours of CD-quality audio). It so there's no way that hearing can open your file, even if you can make him understand the file format correctly. You must truncate before presenting it to the hearing. Something like MP3Cutter should be able to do it for you.

This information is set when the file is created.  Windows has no native ability to change.  You need a third party program.  For example, see link below.  Note that I have no idea if it's any good or works in Windows 7.  Gives you the link just to get an example of what to look for.

  • Good for laptop - cannot change the ISP; keep returning to a previous provider

Windows 7 laptop of my grandson, I'm migrating FIREFOX (excellent resource!) of my aging XP desktop. An existing Mozilla installation on the guarded device tries to connect to an ISP in Sydney (1000km) which kept out, I guess because the signal is too weak. Too far - on the Internet?

Reinstalled my new ISP contact, reinstalled a fresh copy of Firefox, copied the old profile XP (just underneath the random string file name), but cannot change the fault. Firefox at startup tries to raise the old ISP (Sydney) and expires, and then allowing me to establish a manual connect with the ISP (my current) new.
Perhaps a clue: in my Firefox troubleshooting info, change preferences, the browser start page is the address of 'old', with 'override mstone' ignore, what look like prints of registry entries, but I can't change all that - and maybe it's wise! An annoying secondary question: on arrival, the laptop listed no administrator user. So I am me came as an administrator, but I wonder if a past or current even Admin hidden could register (or other) entered resistant to change.

Late discovery: the laptop is apparently infected with browser pirate btsearch.name. Search Google throws a series of removal procedures, and I'm now working through them.
    What Miss me?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox can be a result of malware installed on your computer, you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to search for malicious software that work with your existing anti-virus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP, if you do not already have one.

More information can be found in the article troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware .

  • Vista hosts file keep endangered

    Hi all.

My Vista hosts file began to disappear these last time.

I have no problem of replacement and it works very well after this, but what could be the cause of it disappear.

I run vista basic security and everything worked fine until now.

A few days back the part changed in the file has been deleted mysteriously, today the entire file has been deleted.

    Hi firestang,

Do you remember any change to your machine before the problem?

Follow the steps below and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Check if the host files disappears in safe mode .

    Step 2:

If it works fine, I suspect involvement of conflict of software of third party causing the problem to occur. I'd make you clean boot and check if it is caused by a third-party software.

Note: Follow step 7 to your computer as usual.

    Step 3:

Do the SFC scan on your machine and check.

    Step 4:

It could be because of a virus or spyware. I suggest that you run an online scan in order to remove the malicious software from the link below.

  • Cannot change the folder name of the user, i.e. the C:\Users\user name (folder name)

I got a new computer w/Windows 7, but Set - up guy was working on 2 computers and put the wrong name in this machine slot 'username '.  All seeking answers to correct (my machine automatically books with my ADMIN correct name but doesn't let me change an incorrect name in the USER file), I came across this on VISTA.  It also applies to Windows 7?

"What you see is the reference in the"C:\Users\user name"folder. While you can change the registered owner and the name of the user account, you cannot change the name of the folder 'C:\Users\user name'. The only way to do this is to create a new admin account and delete the one in a new. »

If the solution IS identical to that of Vista, the instructions on the following link apply?
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/93026-user-account-delete.html

Yes, the solution is identical to that of Vista, and apply the instructions at this link.

Create a new account with the correct name and delete the old account.  If you wish, save the old account during erasing files and copy them into the new account.

  • Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

    Hello

I freshly installed OS elementary which is based on Ubuntu.

VMWare Workstation installation worked fine, but after creating my new virtual machine with a Win 10, the same message comes to me:

Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

I looked a little in the log file, found this dump was set to zero, they changed in etc/security /, but that's all I've managed to find.

    Here is my log file

Thanks a lot for your help

PS: I'm leaving a beginner in the Linux world, so explanation would be welcome

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

I don't think that the problem is related to a beginner linux user, it's a problem triggered by a specific hardware configuration.

If you look at your log file again, there is an error just before the vmware process attempts to core dump. The dump is a reaction to the problem.

  • Moved from VM with Snap Shots, doesn't start: cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

    Hello

Last week, I decided to move from a Windows host based Linux system. So I went through my VMs their power off and copied to another drive. I then installed 7 Centos and reinstalled VMWare Workstation 12 re-imported the virtual machine in VMWare and I tried to start.

    I received the following message...

"Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error.

Suspicious, I looked at the folder that contains the machine virtual and noticed it contained snapshots. DOH!

I guess it is pretty bad, not sure where to start?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    James

I copied VM, with and without clichés, without problems. Have a few running on OSX Fusion so

The first thing I would check would be for folders and .lck files. If so, remove them.

  • Cannot change the power state of VM: cannot...   (VMWare Workstation 7 on Debian Lenny)

Hi all, I am new to this community. I recently installed VMWare Workstation 7 on a Debian Lenny (kernel 2.6.26.2 - amd64). I had no problem with it, but when I tried to start a Virtual Machine Windows Vista, which I created it, does not start. Error says windows "cannot change the power state of VM: could not find a peer valid to connect to". "" Any idea, please?

    Josber.

It seems that the virtual machine has been suspended when your host is using a different screen resolution

either change back to the resolution that you used when you suspenmded the machine virtual or delete the VMS.

This will force the VM to do a cold boot
