Cannot click on "Remove hardware" to eject external drives in the system icons tray

First of all, it's not the usual problem whereby Windows refuses to allow me to eject a flash disk because it is in use; My problem is different.

I can't really top click (left or right). It applies only to this icon - all others, including the management of power, wireless, bluetooth, etc work fine - touchpad driver I can click on each of them. It is very annoying, because instead of this, I have to go to my computer to eject the flash drives, which is clearly more hassle. I see no reason why this happens no matter what light you can throw on this issue would be appreciated.

Should I reinstall the USB drivers? If so, what are those who control the external drives...?

Note: the actual usb drives work well when connected.

Hello

Yes, the 3rd link is a bit complicated for Vista or Windows 7.

Check the following policy.

In Windows 7, you can set the strategy of quick deletion for an external USB device. It doesn't disable the setting cache file for the device that allows to bypass the component to safely remove.

1. plug the device into the USB port.

  • Is there a way to recover the EFS encrypted files stored on an external drive without the origianl certificate?

Is there a way to recover the EFS encrypted files stored on an external drive without the original of the certificate?

I had photos/files stored on an external drive and have been encrypted with EFS in XP. The main drive crashed, all keys have been lost. Got a new main drive, installed the new OS and now can't access encrypted files.

Unless you can retrieve parts of your old drive or have a backup of your encryption certificate, you have probably lost all of your encrypted data.  Recovery agents work only if they are in place when the file/folder is initially encrypted.  A program like AEFSDR might be able to resurrect your old certificate from your old drive if it is readable at all.  If you plan to use EFS in the future, make sure you read the following article the court - particularly paragraph entitled "why you should back up your certificates.

"Best practices for EFS file system.

  • + Configuration LR to work out of the Photo files on external drive from the beginning very +.

    Hello!

I have LR is trying to see how the workflow.

I'm working on a project, I need to select the final images to use in the project of as a value of a year of photos.

My main interest is using LR at the moment.

I have all my files on an external drive.

+ First step is to import and then adding them to a catalog on my internal drive.

+ I select 'building intelligent insights' so I can work in offline mode

Then from there, the process of selection and Keywords, etc..

    Does this sound right?

~ If I have other projects, I would create a separate in my computer for each project catalog?

~ would be metadata that I added in LR only incorporated on the files I use LR?

    I want to say is,

If I was to go in my external drive from the desktop and place an image,

    What is metadata?

    Thank you!

    Sounds good.

I suggest working with a single catalog only.

LR does not change the imported originals - non-destructive workflow.

You can write changes to a sidecar XMP file: basics of metadata and the actions in Lightroom

  • Can I automatically ejecting external drives when I stopped my iMac?

Every time I stop my iMac (mid-2011 with the help of El Capitan 10.11.5) and then launch later, I get messages that my external drives have not ejected correctly.

Is it possible that readers can be ejected automatically during the closed iMac?

    Thank you very much.

Is what kind of readers this?  I have often in the past quarter century end Macs with disks attached and that they were all ejected correctly.

    Hello

    Q.1

Whenever I'm copy/move files from my computer to a disc external hard or vice versa, I often had the message prompt "are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?  The XYZ file has properties that cannot be copied to the new location.  YES/SKIP/CANCEL.

Please advice why I got this message and what it means.

    Q.2

Very that often, when I left and I deleted my external thumbdrive or a portable hard drive to my computer, I noticed that the trash on my desk was filled with a lot of files/folders that I have recognized that they were things of mine, but I did not understand how they appeared in the trash at the time when I did not remove my external hard drives before I left my computer.

Then, when I plugged my external hard drives to check if these files/folders had been accidentally deleted quickly, I found that they were still there.

This kind of incident occurred in Windows XP-based computers and Windows 7.

Please indicate why/how this could happen.

BTW, I couldn't find a correct classification for my two above questions in your Inbox "subject and Windows applications.  Therefore, I selected no matter how one.

  • External drive and the database is unable to re-connect after player swaps (?)

    • I have a problem for my existing database reconnected after adding a large SSD and replace a different hard drive in another Bay. Details below.
    • I run LRCC on a desktop machine Win7 64 bit with a lot of RAM.
    • My catalog is on record in the area and is the right size (2.93Gig for 120 000 images)
    • The catalog and previews are on an SSD - not with images
    • My picture files are on an external RAID USB3 battery; I have everything in a folder called "Lightroom".
    • This external hard drive is reported as 'online' in the folders pane
    • My picture files can be seen under the name of the external drive (RAID) on which the images are stored.
    • for example, no folder with question marks
    • The correct image files do not appear elsewhere in the LR Folders pane.
    • I had to rename and rebuild the drive letter for the external drive. I don't think it would be a problem. He had been driving \K: front and eventually re-assigned a different letter. When I looked at the share path, he was wrong, as he used the name of another drive (internal). That's when I forced reassignment to the letter assignment and the previous path that had worked all along.
    • I started to go back to older catalogues, and they do not open Lightroom with the data pane and folder showing the images where they are stored in fact.
    • These older catalogs don't present me with 'Found Photos' question marks, or the other. I went back a month. No luck.
    • If I pass the folders pane and try to 'Add' a folder root Lightroom on the external drive (the correct House of images), it becomes an IMPORT, and I find a lot of images that are not understood by LR in the database. They should ALL be already there.
    • Most of these images - that need to be imported - verified are JPG files versions for which the. CR2 is considered to be the database. I can't find key words assigned to the images we think by LR for being in the database, although I don't know if keywords for images already databased are normally at this stage.
    • Yes, I restarted a bunch of time in the hope of a miracle! Any ideas on that?
    • Thanks in advance for any help.

I think I'd be tempted to go to a previous backup for example before you removed something. Double-click the .lrcat file to start or start a catalog file vacuum > new Catlaog and open the backup into that.

Then it should be possible to remap the drive letters or update folder locations to match with the raid.  You might even consider static drive letters such as X, Y, Z.

  • Time Machine deleted messages on an external drive to the trash can on iMac are taking place on the hard drive?

I am struggling with a computer, try to empty the trash with 1million 300,000 Time machine backup files. It runs for two days now and won't install. At this rate, I'll need a week before my computer becomes viable. I don't feel able to go to the Terminal to do the trick. Also at this point, I'm afraid to stop the process again... Backups on an external drive of pigs 400 GB on my drive hard imac... I have so little room to work right now. I deleted some 200,000 files already yet the storage on my imac HD has not moved. The files in the Recycle Bin of the external drive really live on my hd now until they will be deleted if all goes well before Christmas?

I have a new computer to come next week so I'm wondering if I'll just reformat my entire hd in my imac to solve this problem... Any ideas?

You do all this in the Finder?

Time Machine has to delete the files from the user interface, normally "browsing Time Machine backup", navigate to the desired folder, and select the option "delete all backups of...» ». This is the approved way that should work.

If you are manually dragging the items in the trash of in a Time Machine backup, it can choke. Time Machine stores data with many levels of access control permissions & Finder seems to have difficulties to remove to empty the trash. In fact, I think that the TM drive has limits to prevent normal users to change data on this disk.

Personally, I think your safest option is to abandon the process, restart, erase and reformat the Time Machine drive. Who will lose all history backups but again in a clean condition seems to be better than trying to manually prune the Time Machine data. Time Machine removes old backups when it is full - so you shouldn't really need to intervene like this anyway.

Wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

P.S., each disk has its own "basket", so doing drag items should not fill your Mac startup disk. Maybe the operating system is out of memory, try to process all the files, exit other applications & see if that changes anything, you may have to wait just if you want to avoid to abandon the process.

  • I copied the folder iPhoto to my 'images' on an external drive and all photos disappeared both external drive and the iPhoto library. Do you know where they are?

Hello! I have a big problem!

I copied the folder "Images" that is default in my Mac on an external drive.

Inside the 'Images' folder, there is the iPhoto folder.

When I reopened iPhoto, all photos disappeared from the iPhoto library and the external drive. I left alone with very little, very old photos.

Do you know where my pictures maybe? Photos in iPhoto has also lost all the flags...

Thank you in advance for the answer...

    Julie

What software (name and version) are you using? What format is the EHD? How is it connected? What exactly did you do step by step

Bottom line is that correctly copy a package does not remove anything so you did something wrong and we need to know exactly what you have and what you have done to help

  • Should I unplug external drives during the upgrade?

Contemplating upgrading to El Capitan.  I have an iMac end of 2014, so I know that it is correct.  My question is - should I disconnect all external drives and devices before you run the upgrade, or it doesn't matter?

I remember too, when I updated before, the new operating system does recognize the Time Machine backups.  Should I do to be able to access the TM of the previous operating system?

    Thank you

    Barbara

It can't hurt to unplug external drives.

Time Machine should recognize the previous backups. Which means, you should be able to go back to the backups made since previous versions of OS X. I know when I upgraded from 10.10.5 to 10.11.3, I could see/restore back ups in 10.10.5.

Another thing to consider is once the Installer OS X El Capitan.app file is downloaded and before you click continue to install, copy this file from / applications to another folder (for example, downloads) so that you have it if you need it in the future. Download time records.

  • 2.72 TB external drive via the USB port

I realize, this is an old post, but I really need help.  I formatted a 3 TB on Windows 7 64 bit external drive connected via USB. I must have formatted MBR but player showed still 2.72 TB of space - great! I copied the backup data on this disc, leaving 129 GB of space.  The problem seems is occurred when I actually copied data that was full of 2 TB.

After that everything was copied, I went to remove disc and it says that it is in use. I waited for an hour, the same thing, so I restarted the computer. NOW, this drive will rise not on any computer, almost as if he needs formatting / initialized as a raw player! Please help as I have more data anywhere, but on this disc... certainly there must be a way to read data from this drive?  Is there a system I can try to retrieve data?

I'm on Dell T5500, BIOS = A09.  Most recent update of the BIOS and update Intel RST?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Go back to your original information you posted, the hard disk had be GPT formatted and not MBR otherwise the hard drive wouldn't format on 2.72 TB.  How can he be a former post office at your first post about it is dated today?

Removing a hard drive which is currently in use is never a good idea that he could make the hard drive completely unusable depending on what operation is made at the point where the hard drive is removed.
