Cannot compress files

I am running OS X Yosemite on my Mac Book Air.  I have a few that I would like to compress large files, but it is not an option for any of my files.  On the file menu, the compression option is grayed out.  I'm mainly looking to PowerPoint files, but other files have the same problem (including files, Pages and Keynote).  I can't select 'compress' for any of them.  I have the Permission to read and write all these files.  What should I do to compress these files? Thank you.

You can compress other files, such as plain text files?

It could be that these files are already compressed, and the system realizes that.

  • How to find my compressed files [ZIP]

Reference Dell restored my laptop to factory - cannot find the compressed files [ZIP]

    Hello

    Where records have been saved?

A restore to factory wipe the hard clean throughout the process. The only option you have is to use a recovery program to recover files deleted from your hard drive. But I doubt if this will help. If the files were very important, then you can give it a try. Search using your favorite search engine to learn more about third-party data recovery programs.

  • Cannot download files on ie8

I have the same problems you guys talk. I tried to download a compressed file that contains a coupon that I want, and as some of you have said, it is as he downloaded or saved to where I said, but he's not here. I tried to restore to an earlier date, but cannot get more than 5 days back, so I still have ie8 as my browser. I should have slept with 7; It worked fine! But now I can't reinstall ie7, since apparently, Vista is not included in the list of the OS. Natch.
I also tried to download a few games, but were unable to do the same. as I said, my restore point is not enough far to be of any use. What should do?

I suggest to perform a clean boot to prevent loading in the background startup programs.

You can have a few contradictory items running in the background and the origin of this problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. This article describes how to solve problems in Windows Vista by performing a clean boot. This article also describes how to start the Windows Installer service and how to reset the computer so that it starts as usual.

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the function returns. However, you may receive the error message, or you can experience the original behavior.

If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    a. log in the computer using an account with administrator rights.

    b. click Start collapse this image enlarge this image, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

The collapse of this image to this image if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click continue .

    c. under the general tab, click Selective startup , and then clear the Load Startup items check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)

    d. on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft services check box and then click on disable all .

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    e. click OK , and then click restart .

Step 2: Enable half the services

    a. follow steps 1a and 1B to start the System Configuration utility.

    b. click on the Services tab and then click to select the hide all Microsoft services check box.

    c. Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.

    d. click OK and then click restart .

Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem persists, repeat steps 1 and 2. In step 2, click to clear half of the check boxes that you have initially enabled in the Service list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat steps 1 and 2. In step 2, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Service list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one service is selected in the list of services , and you the problem persists, the service selected the cause of the problem. Go to step 6. If no service is causing this problem, go to step 4.

Step 4: Enable half of the startup items

    a. perform a clean boot by repeating step 1.

    b. click on the Startup tab and then click to select half of the check boxes in the startup item list.

    c. click OK , and then click restart .

Step 5: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem persists, repeat steps 1 and 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you have originally selected in the startup item list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat steps 1 and 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the startup item list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one startup item is selected in the startup item list, and you still experience the problem, start selected in the list element is the service that is causing the problem. Go to step 6.

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely the cause of the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the hide all Microsoft services check box in each step.

    Step 6: Resolve the problem

After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

Step 7: Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

Click on start to reduce this image enlarge this image, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

The collapse of this image to this image if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click continue .

On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK .

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart .

    Hope this helps :)

  • Do not open the compressed files

    Hello

When I compress several files in a zip file and then try to open it, I get the following message:

(Name) file cannot be opened because there are problems with the content.

Then I click OK and get the following message:

Word found unreadable content in (name).  You want to recover the contents of this document?  If you trust the source of this document, click Yes.

Then, I click Yes and get the following message:

(Name) file cannot be opened because there are problems with the content.

I click on details and get the following message:

Microsoft Office cannot open this file because some parts are missing or invalid.

I was previously able to open the files zipped without any problem.

Any help with this issue is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Candace

You try to open the file generated with Word.  You must first extract the compressed file, and then open the file with Word.

    Method 1

Double-click on the zip file.  This will display the contents of the zip file, which are probably more.doc files or Word *.docx files.

Double click on whatever you want to work on files of words.

    Method 1 has

Instead of double-clicking on one of the compressed files, drag ' not drop it on your desktop.  It is indeed 'an excerpt' rather than 'extract all' method 2.

    Method 2

Right-click on the zip file and select "Extract all."  This will create a new folder (with the same name as the zip file).  All the files you have been compressed in the zip file will be in this new folder.  These are copies of compressed files (zipped).

Double-click on according to files in the new folder that you want to use.

The problem with all of these methods when you want to save your work.

For method 1, you must use "save under" (rather than by clicking "Save" or by using the file > save) and don't forget to change the location (folder) where you save the document from the temporary directory that will be the default value to a more appropriate location, such as your desktop.

For method 1, you can use the regular 'save' function.  The file will be saved whenever you dragged (for example, your desktop computer).

For method 2, you can use the regular 'Save' function, but be aware that the file will be saved in the new folder created when you extracted all the files.

In all of the above methods, the version of the file in your original zip file will not be changed.  Assuming that this is not the desired result, after you save the modified file, drag ' not drop it on the zip file.  You will get an offer from the window to "Copy and replace" or "Do not copy."  Choose "copy and replace".  Your modified file will be compressed and placed in the zip file at the original compressed file.

You can then delete the file updated the registered (method 1 or 1 a) or the entire new folder with all the files extracted (method 2).

I have a compressed file of OVF generated by OVF tool to 'compress' option. However, I can't convert the generated file ovf return to vmx. you are missing a

OVF:compression = "gzip" in the section < file >. Insert in the ovf (you need to remove the .mf file as the manifest do not match) and everything should be good. I see that this has been made with ovftool 1.0.0 that you are more than welcome to upgrade to 2.0.1 ovftool and try export once more. If we still fail to define the ovf: compression = attribute "gzip" I will ensure that it is included in the next version.

  • Problem of compressing files

    Hi all

I'm having a problem of compression of strange file with CS5 on our new Mac Pro.  We bought the Mac Pro to scan and process the images, but the JPEG and GIF files we create from this computer is much more important that they should be closed (for example images that should be compressed to 6 KB read 60 KB and the size of the file is often smaller when open to closed). In addition, every time we use these image files in other programs (e.g., Filemaker Pro) the inflated file size will be.  What is even more amazing, is that the same files that read like 60KO on our Mac Pro will be correctly read as 6 KB from a PC.  Similarly, if we incorporate these images - which were created on the Mac Pro - in Filemaker from a PC, the size of the image file is correct.  We cannot use the compressed files, we create on our Mac Pro because the inflated file size will affect any application that we use on the Mac Pro (except Photoshop).

We have been processing images on a PC for years and have not had any problems with this.   We thought for a while that the problem was with the Mac operating system, but after many calls with advisers from Apple, it seems that Photoshop for Mac has the issue.  We have already tried to reformat and re-indexing the hard drive, and at this point, there is nothing else that can be done at the end of Apple.  The expert last I talked to Apple says that this looks like Photoshop for Mac compress files and how Mac reads the files size is very different from the way of Photoshop for PC compress files and how Windows reads the size of the files.  Is it was okay, and there is no work around, we will have no choice and will have to return our Mac.

Everyone knows that before?  Apple experts have been completely confused by the problem and we also.

    Thank you
    Jenny

This has nothing to do with compression.

Macintosh records more metadata and previews more than Windows - it is a part.

Macintosh displays the size of the file on the disk, including the space wasted due to the size of the disk block - that belongs to another. (Look at the number of bytes, not the size in KB or MB).

When you upload files to a server, or use them in most programs, this additional metadata is lost and the size of the files must be identical.

I can't believe that your advisers spent time on an issue as trivial...

  • Cannot attach files in any email AOL, yahoo or the company. Also only shows blank page when access yahoo email.

In any web mail program AOL, Yahoo, my companies, you cannot attach files when you compose an email. By the icon/button attach it says "no file selected" (or when you switch on it). This also happens in safe mode. The browser speed is also very slow. Once logged into my yahoo mail, I get a blank page. In the title bar, it says I have x amount of email.

I reinstalled Firefox and for about 60 seconds, it was fast and yahoo opens up very well and I was able to reach yahoo emails and on behalf of my company. After this he returned to its slow and not be attached and yahoo opening a blank page.

I have run spybot and deleted and malicious software threats found them all. I think something infects Firefox. IE and Chrome do not have this problem. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

antivirus was not a problem since it was not installed. Firewall settings are fine. I just finally solve this problem. SpyHunter was able to detect two of the hijackers that other programs do not have, and this fixes the problem. As I said in the original post I did not suspect that this was the problem. The lesson is to run several malware programs, until you find one that eliminates the problem, if you think that malware as the problem.

It looks like a problem with the Toshiba Recovery CD.
Have you tried to repeat this procedure?

What of the HARD drive? You format the HARD drive using an original CD of XP MS?
