Cannot connect remotely to an external hard drive on iMac

I have trouble connecting to remote a Macbook (10.10.5) of an external HARD drive mounted which is connected to an iMac (Mac OS X 10.10.5.) The iMac is connected to the internet via an airport express base station 7.6.4.

I created an account of sharing only to connect to this drive and I've had no success connecting to it outside the local network of this external hard drive.

Because the Terminal airport express base station is involved, y at - it sort of port forwarding for connect to this hard drive mounting?

I've only tried to plug the hard disk via finder > go > connect to server > name.local/locationOfExternalHarddrive of the computer and have had no success so I think the explicit base station is the question?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I've only tried to plug the hard disk via finder > go > connect to server > computer name.local/locationOfExternalHarddrive

This is assuming you have CCMM configuration and working properly... without it, Wan, there is no way that the computer can find computername.local

You need the public IP address of the router... and there may be only a single router. Normally, it is not possible to use IP because it is dynamic, with a home ISP accounts then you must configure the global DNS name or a dynamic DNS account.

Please read Tesserax doco on remote... the best method is Apple CCMM.

Airport drive - remote (3 methods)

A simpler method in my humble OPINION is teamviewer... same as Apple CCMM without as many restrictions.

Any method of remote access requires a careful configuration of the home network. And the Mac must be able to wake on lan... (apple have their own fancy name for it).

  • connect the phone to external hard drive wireless

I have a laptop with Vista and a pc with Windows 7.  We have an external hard drive connected to the pc.  I would like to move my music files from my laptop to the external hard drive and be able to communicate with them wireless.  What should I do to be able to do this? There is a wireless router in the House.

    Hello

Wire or wireless does not matter for this purpose.

The drive must be set as a shared device, and then the other computers that are on the same network (wire or wireless) can access.

    Here's how.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

    * Looks like that I have multiple instances of the same files

I don't know if you will be able to do this before your flight, but the drive must be partitioned and formatted, reformatted, or scanned for errors of NTFS file allocation table with repairs enabled. Depending on the size of the disk, this could take some time. You can also check statistics of SMARTDRIVE with a utility like Crystal Info disc to see if it is a failure.

If you do not drive Professional recovery tools available, the native CHKDSK will do in a pinch.

-I can drag photos that already exist ON the disk hard ON my desk, but not vice versa

-All files are jpg files, and they are in a separate folder on my desktop, not from my iphoto library or whatever it is

-J' also tried to delete the "com.apple.recentitems.plist" of the finder, and nothing has changed

-The disc model is a "Slim Seagate laptop drive"

-Here is a photo of the hardrive info:

The external HARD drive is formatted NTFS, which allows you to write on it unless you have a third party app like Paragon or Tuxera.

You had these software installed by Seafgate in the drive, but it is now obsolete and should be updated.

  • HP Slate 21 cannot detect some of my external hard drives

    Hi all

I just bought an all-in-one HP Slate 21 PC (Jellybean Android) and it worked very well. However, I have a problem because it does not detect one of my external hard drive when I plug it into the USB plug. My HD model is a Seagate 1 TB Backup more Portable Drive USB 3.0. So I want to ask if the 21 slate is selective in models HD that we could use?

Second question, I notice that when I sometimes play some movies, that he would play, but with no sound. Is there some video formats that are not supported? We can install the drivers to fix this? Thank you and hoping for some help and clarification with the people here

Your android slate will not recognize a hard drive that is formatted as NTFS. It will recognize the FAT32 and exFAT formats.

An external hard drive must be powered externally. Do not expect the micro-USB port to power an external hard drive or an SSD.
