The domain controller is off site in my main office.
Environment:
All local desktop clients are windows machines 7.
Printing and local file is a windows 2003 server.

Note that we recently changed all 2003 to all domain controllers the PDC 2008, suspect that it may cause the problem, but just cannot know where it track.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi Katmandu774,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

The Public folder is a convenient way to share files that are stored on your computer. You can share files in this folder with other people using the same computer and with people using other computers on the same network. Any file or folder you put in the folder Public is automatically shared with the people who have access to your Public folder.

If you are not on a domain, you can limit network access to the Public folder so that people with a user account and password for this computer. To do this, turn on sharing protected by password.

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to password protected sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on password protected sharing

    ·         Turn off password protected sharing

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To control the level of access to the Public folder

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to public folder sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change and create files

    ·         Turn off sharing (people logged on to this computer can still access this folder)

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Also, make sure you add everyone to the public folder and give the necessary permissions to access it.

  • Satellite A100 - 02 M: cannot open the local area network to share files and printer - LAN Unplugged

I have an office of another manufacturer which was connected by a wireless network via a Belkin router for a laptop another manufacturers - both running XP.

I have now replaced the other laptop with a laptop Toshiba Satellite A100 - 02 M under Vista Home Premium. While I can still access the Internet from both machines, I can't open the LAN to share files and printers. The laptop shows 'LAN Unplugged' all the time. Any ideas would be accepted with gratitude.

    Ray Freeman

    Hello

    I have no general solution, but I'll try to give some advice solution;
If you want to connect laptop with LAN cable both please make sure that you use a crossover ethernet cable.
In addition, check if the network card is properly recognized in Device Manager.

You could try updating the LAN driver and remove the NIC in Device Manager to update the installed driver.
After restarting again the operating system should recognize the new (Lan) device and should install it automatically.

That's what I get on my ThinkPad when I try to do the networking. I placed all the parameters correctly: all 3 of my computers are set the same. 2 workstations work perfectly. They can even see the laptop but not to open all files. The laptop can, open same network t itself file. But he can see the whole of the network (including a printer, is told by the way). I, ve gone through all parameters twice. I've even set the C drives to share via the menus of context on each computer. I have visited many forums with none even come close to this problem (they all will tell you how to set the network parameters or they get very technical and over my head).

    I tried with & without a firewall.

    No password.

    I use a wired network.

Laptop & 1 desktop computer running vista - 1 desktop computer running xp.

They have all the latest service packs ms & udates.

    Any help will be appreciated.

These files can be opened by norton or lenovo network setting apps. The settings do not work only in the application of network of vista. Nor can I work norton or lenovo from other computers.

PS how can I ensure these settings effect may just lan and do not extend to the internet?

    Thank you bb

I tried new drivers & returned through sharing & permissions, according to Jack, but he was not good. At the level of experience of my computer I can miss something obvious, but I doubt it because I've been very careful in following the instructions. I am experencing other problems with this laptop as well and I'll just get all. I am planing to get back anyway, that's why I needed network. I wanted to Exchange files over the network to avoid having to ' wait & swap "usb drives. Thanks anyway. Thank you BB bb

  • XP Pro SP 3 firewall blocking UDP 137 and 138 even though exception "File and Print sharing" is selected

I am running XP Pro SP 3 on a working group. I'm trying to access the files from a Windows 7 machine on the same workgroup. But the XP firewall blocking UDP 137 and 138 even though exception "File and Print sharing" is selected. When I disable the XP firewall, all right.

I did some research on another site, and I came up with the FIX for this issue. It has to do with the node XP somehow getting ready to type "Peer-to-peer". I applied the fix in this article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/903267

and the problem is now solved.

Please come back and let everyone know how you fixed the end!

However, the fact that this has happened and you don't know how concerned me (if it was my machine).

Here's what I propose for extra cleaning:

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know usingGoogle (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

  • Wonder about file and printer sharing (existing home network)

Before you start what are the risks and problems with the file for example, virus,.

So should I use the Windows Wizard or the menu of Linksys to enable files and printers shared on my Inspiron 2200 and my 4600 (Desktop) dimension. I use a HP PSC 1210 all in One (Wired to desktop), pilots have been implemented on the two compositions and I use McAfee Security Center without the Protection of privacy on the two compositions. So, how do this.

Do I have to install the file and printer for MS Networks sharing? What is it?
