Cannot copy files and folders to another folder
Whenever I try to COPY a group of files and folders 1 folder to another folder, Vista wants only to allow me to MOVE them. What is my problem?
Select the files to copy (using the command CTRL to select more than one non sequential order) and once they are all chosen type CTRL-C. Then move to the folder where you want to copy and click header file and type CTRL-V. Perhaps this method of copying files won't work where others do not.
I hope this helps.
Good luck! Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

Cannot access files and folders after removing the Trojan horse of my Vista computer
I have Vista. I can't access the folders and files of one of my user accounts. The Office for this account seems to have nothing about it. I was able to confirm that the folders and files are still on my computer but I can't open them. I get a RunDLL error when you connect to this ACCT.
With the help of McAfee, I found Artemis Trojan horse on my computer and I think I have removed.
How can I get my computer back to normal?

Sharing documents is the only part that is disabled by default in the group options, sharing, as well as the records in question are not in the folder My Documents or you have checked Documents that you should be able to accomplish the task.

Unable to find files and folders using Windows Search
Original title: Windows search returns no results, but only for a single user - another user works very well - Windows 7
All of a sudden windows search of files and folders (from windows Explorer) do not return results - even if I'm looking for in a folder with a file name that I know is in there. However, it works for the other user on this system.
The things that I tried or looked at who did not work:
- Configuration of the default folder options.
- reconstruction of the index
- sfc/scannow - said "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them. I have the CBS. If necessary log file.
- research done that windows has been archived 'Tour of the windows features turn on or off.
- Ran the registry of Windows Search - he said that he fixed two things (cannot tell you what they were now), but still, it does not solve the problem. When I run it says once again that there are no errors.
- I checked this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced\\\ and key Start_SearchFiles - which was set to 2, the default - Under Customize Start Menu - search with public folders is selected under search for other files and libraries.
It still does not work. The search box in the start menu seems to work, but not for anything I get.
Frustrated!

Try to open an administrator command prompt. Then cd to the desktop. Finally, run 'attrib-h - r

Cannot change show Hidden files and folders option, continues to come back to hidden
Original title: activate the hidden files and folders. -Registry problem! Windows 7
I had a meeting with a virus, which had a game with my registry so that I cannot view hidden files and folders. Whenever I click on "View files and folders hodden" and then click on folder options, it is by default to "do not show hidden folders and files". I've been browsing around, find people who give advice and I have seen some changes, but it STILL keep diverting back to do not show.
I am running Windows 7 Profesional x 64
There are a few default values and checked in 2 subfolders in the shadow folder.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden
Any help from people who know a little more about the registry that I do, would be greatly apprechiated.
Thank you.
Nick.
P.S. is there a tool to repair/reinstall just a specific part of the registry? aka. Replace the folder hidden by default?
Hi Nicolas,.Try these steps and check the result.
Step 1: Check if the following registry value exists.
a. Click Start, type regedit and press to enter.
b. look for the following registry:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
c. click the SHOWALL folder in the left pane and check if the CheckedValue element is present in the right pane and if the value set on this is 1.
d. If CheckedValue element is missing in the right pane, and then right-click in the empty area in the right pane, click New-> click on the DWORD (32 bit) If your computer is running 32-bit Windows, 64-bit by clicking another value.
e. name the item that you created as CheckedValue.
f. double-click CheckedValue element and type 1 in the value data box, and then click ok.
g. close the registry editor and restart the computer.
h. turn on hidden files and folders to see if it works.Important: Modifying the registry incorrectly will cause serious damage to the computer. Back up the registry until you make changes.Step 2: Online virus scanner and check the result
a. visit the Scan of viruses online
b. click full service scan and complete the scan.
c. restart the computer once the analysis is complete.Kind regards

Deletion of files and folders in folder
Can I remove all the files and folders in %Temp% + C:\Windows\Temp?
In the past, someone in my mobile service provider broadband used remote control to remove all the temporary files for me as list above. After that, I also made myself. However, I still want to get some assurance that it is OK to do.
One of the reasons is that disk cleanup does remove all the files and folders in these places... so I think that it is better to ask before I do it again.
Advice, please?
If the file is used as intended then yes it can be emptied if necessary
Unfortunately, that's a big IF. Used properly included programs clean their installation files extracted temporarily once the installation is complete. The fact that the record needs compensation means they do not as it should. Because this includes many 3rd party software developers outside Microsoft's control, you can not categorically say that you never have problems.
Personally, I've always never had problems. If you can't move the files to another temporary folder (son of Temp) and check for problems before deleting large total

Folder options - view the hidden files and folders
Hello
On this same laptop, there seems to be a problem with * Folder Options - Show hidden files and Folders.*
Every time I have to 'see' this option to display - then I go back to check/confirm the changes - but the box is new 'unchecked '. Despite clicking on apply then Ok to save the changes. The changes are never saved...
I have used other laptops of this same option and it worked fine.
Please indicate if I need to apply or change other settings for this to work?
Kind regards.
A reasonable explanation from Microsoft for this?
To be honest I have never heard talk about something like that. ?:|Since when you noticed this behavior?
Have you tried to roll back the BONES to the bygone era? Maybe some update is responsible for this.I really hope that someone here will explain why this happen.

Files and folders in root appear in my folder of Documents and office
It probably happens on the Windows NT-based versions (has happened to me on a XP PC and a PC in 2000 that I intend to upgrade both of them soon). The files and folders of the program directory (C :) root Windows upward in the office and the folder My Documents. These files are not shortcuts and they show that they are located in the root of the drive, even if they appear on the desktop and My Documents. They can be handled then that mirrored to the root of the drive. I dropped a simple file to the root one test while it appears on the locations and then I deleted the file of the said test from the office and he left root. They don't seem to do anything when I click on them. It is not happened to me before. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this a bug?
That is some progress. Normally the desktop folder works the same way, where he will have a "location" at the top of the Properties tab. This is a feature you'll see normally special "shell folders" as this (shell being the part of the operating system that see you, or the user interface).
If it has lost its distinctive feature, you can usually restore it quickly in the registry.
- First of all, make sure that you have a folder that is named "Desktop" in your personal folder 'username '. You will set the registry to use this folder as storage of office location.
- Keep Windows Logo type R to display the run box, type REGEDIT and click OK and give permission to the administrator if necessary.
- Navigate through the list of files (registry keys) on the left to find this place:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders - Look for the "Desktop" entry on the right (registry value), and double-click it to change data to be:
%UserProfile%\desktopThe %UserProfile% is a variable that is everywhere where your current profile is stored. Administrators and power users can use it to move their entire profile without having to define all those places individually.
- Click OK to save it, and then close the registry editor.
- Lot of windows completely and reconnect of re - initialize your user profiles and folder locations. Or just restart your computer, either way :)
At this point, right click and properties of the desktop folder should now have the expected location tab (let me know if not).
If you ever want to move these places, a little advice: make sure that you have specified a folder name. In other words, do not place your Documents to store in just the G: drive. Instead, create a folder on the target drive and don't forget in the location (such as G:\Docs). One last thing: don't try to define both 'special' folders to be stored at the same single physical location (do not set two in the same place).
Here is a picture of this registry on Windows 10 location, but these steps are the same, all the way back to Windows 2000 (maybe sooner).
Let me know how it goes, I hope that he gets all cleared up.
