Hi, I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a laptop which has Vista from Microsoft and I wanted to create a new administrator account, but I don't have access to the former administrator account. I know that you can not help me with recovery of lost password for the old account, but is there a way to always create a new administrator account without having to restore my computer?
Without an administrator account, you will not be able to create a new one.
There are 3rd party software that claims to be able to reset the password on the administrator accounts or create a new account on a boot cd. Search in your favorite search engine 'vista password' should yield interesting results. Please scan of tools that you can download for infections by the virus.
Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk...

It's a long story, but it is a case of me not having only not the slightest idea of what I was doing and the things themselves are mean. I tried to access the built-in function
Administrator on my laptop, so I could create a password for it and to transform my only other account user in a standard account. The only way I knew a bit about this world work (at the time) was going to safe mode (already did this on another laptop of mine and it worked,) but the built-in administrator is not. Unfortunately, when I do my first mistake a lot of errors, I decided that I could force the built-in Administrator"is displayed by the guest in an administrator account so I could turn off my main user account. I realized that I couldn't change guest in standard account so I turned it off as an administrator. When I'm home in safe mode I finally see the built-in administrator so I put my password for it, but I noticed the UAC did not have a password field to type and 'yes' is gray. Thinking that it was because I left the account called Administrator, until I turned it off I go to reactivate it if I could go back to the standard, but the guest account would not change back or extinguish again causing the built-in Administrator "to disappear from the safe mode and therefore, preventing me from the question of fixing.
I've tried so far of troubleshooting:
(Start, typed the CDM, run as administrator, typed user administrator / Active: Yes) Having failed, I got msg "System 5 error has occurred. Access denied. "
(Start, typed the CDM, run as administrator, typed net users) see three accounts on my computer administrator, guest, and my main account.
(Start, typed the CDM, run as administrator, typed 'Jack' xxyyzz net user / add) Having failed, I got msg "System 5 error has occurred. Access denied. "
I tried to create a new account, but it still says "the specified account name is not valid, because account names cannot contain the following characters / \ " :;|<>+=,? ". ' * ' , but I don't use any of these at all!
Change the Standard user account to administrator did not
I tried to disable the guest account, but that didn't work either
If anyone has ideas or definitive answers to how to help me solve this problem would be very useful, thx!
The guest on my computer account has administrative authority.
If your guest account has administrator privileges (why?) then you can do this:
- Log in under the guest account.
- Click the start planet.
- Type cmd.exe in the search box.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter
- Click on "Run as Administrator".
- Type the following commands and press ENTER after each:
NET user administrator / Active: Yes
NET user administrator 123456
(to set the password to 123456)
- Log in as administrator.
- Plan ahead a little and create, test, and document an alternative admin account, even though you have a spare House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.
- Demote, then disable the guest account. There is a security risk.
A few weeks ago, I brought a copy of Age of Empires III the collection complete (Ubisoft Exclusive).
I installed the game on my laptop and it worked perfectly fine - but when I went to go play online I found a not able to create a new account? I get the error message that I had to go to the www.eso.com/101.aspx , so I did, and then because it was Ubisoft editing I had to contact them.
So I contacted Ubisoft and they asked me for a picture of proof of purchase / CD Key / Barcode - so I sent the required information and they sent me a new CD key.
So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled from the CD Key again and I still could not create a new account - then Ubisoft has suggested that I should contact Microsoft.
So why am I not able to create a new account?

Had a Surface RT since January and all recently tried to create a new account for someone else on my Surface. I was able to create a new account and I am able to switch to him, but it won't let me install the updates and new applications. I disconnected, restarted the Surface, run wsreset.exe and nothing works. Download updates, but the installation fails every time anything. I have 11 updates pending and I tried to update all of a sudden, I have canceled all and tried to update one at a time and nothing works.
You might consider this: go to accounts in Control Panel and remove all files for the account and the new account (you will be asked if you want all the deleted files). Then I restart the Surface and then re - enter the new account, go to control panel and make an administrator account, and then connect to the new account and see if the problem with applications has been resolved.
Whenever I try to create a new account or someone that I invited to be an editor or a Publisher tent, we receive an unnecessary error message that says: "there was a problem trying to create your account.» Please try again. "This happens after you have entered the name, address of e-mail and typing in the image verification code and clicking"Create Account ". Tried on IE, FF and three different computers, before and after the deletion of cookies. Does anyone know what causes this?
the InContext Editing service has expirenced some short downtime due to infrastructure problems and it is possible that you tried in the minutes...
Now, the service is running. I just created an account and it works beautifully.
Could you please try again see if it now works for you also?
I am currently using Windows 7 and have an administrator account for me and a standard account for my teenage daughter.
My question is, when she wants to change anything that affects essentially the entire computer - she is able to simply create a new account with administator properties. Is there a way I can disable this if only an administrator can create a new account?
Standard accounts cannot be created by normal means administrator accounts. If your girl can do what she so knows how to hack his way through the windows. There is nothing you can do to avoid it. Better to give it its own machine and keep your machine for you.
I tried to create an account for my daughter - I used my email but her birth year and it has been automatically blocked. It's fine for reasons of protection of children, but I can't even opern a page now to create a new account so that it can synchronize his duties between the tasblet and the office.
How can I get the 'sync' back page set up for him?
Hi, go to https://accounts.firefox.com/signup and do a right click on an empty part of the page. Then go to view page info > Security > see cookies > clear all cookies & try again later.
I just reinstall the operating system on my computer. I downloaded the latest version of Firefox and tried to connect to synch - I have no other devices connected outside of the computer, I just cleaned so I was unable to pair. I tried using the recovery key, but it would not allow me to continue. I tried to log in again, and then he said that my email didn't have an account. I created a new account with the same email that I used before and now none of my info (bookmarks / prefs / plugins) are here! Please help me to recover my previous Info!
Sorry, but the action to create a new synchronization with the same account caused e-mail address your data from the server. In addition, 'coupling' and the 'Sync' button has not been used in over a year, with 28 Firefox being the last version to use the old version of Sync. Then it uses Sync on a device as a backup, something that Sync was not intended to do service
Any chance that you have an old Time Machine backup?
When I opened TB, I don't see no information on the TB account that I used for years. Instead, the main menu shows only 'accounts'-'Create a new account - Email, Chat, newsgroup, feed'. Option: "view settings for this account" does NOT appear.
Also the main menu does NOT appear "Email - messages, write a new Message" or "Advanced functions", etc...
Real emails regarding the TB account I used for years are still present in the "users-> xxxxyyyy-> AppData-> Roaming-> Thunderbird' folder."
24.4.0 version worked fine until yesterday (2014-04-06) running windows 8.1 and all of a sudden he couldn't connetc to the internet (sending/receiving e-mail, update, create a new account...). No change was made on my set up accounts. Other applications to connect correctly to the internet. Some Windows 8.1 updates are automatically applied during the same period (?).
Any suggestion would be appreciated
Hi the problem is resolved. I saw a small logo on the first login of Windows 8 window saying "no internet connection available. I connect to the internet before opening a Windows session, and after the opening of the session windows my Thunderbird work again as well as the update of ccleaner...
It seems that, for this Windows 8.1, there are 2 types of internet connections... Mystery?
I just bought a Photosmart 6520 new and am setting up eFax service. While he was trying to set up eFax "create a new account" button is grayed out, do not allow me to create an account. I found a HP support document for my printer which helps with the implementation of eFax. On the document it says:
NOTE: If the button create account is unavailable or greyed out, the printer is already registered with eFax.
I didn't record the printer with eFax, but just to check that it was wrong, I clicked on "login to eFax and clicked 'forgot number?' when you are prompted for an eFax number I never was affected. I put my email address and the message verified, as I expected, that the account was not in their database. I then did a search on the forum where I found a topic 'Registration of EFAX' that said, it has been resolved. The solution to say
"I'm sorry to hear that you have a gray button to create an eFax account for your Photosmart 6520.
The questions that you have, please call HP Cloud Services at 1-885-785-2777 if you are in the USA/Canada region. »
I tried to call this number and it is an invalid number. I searched other corrections and I see not a published solution, but see that there is a problem with high frequency. Help, please.
Here is the solution, if you do not have to hunt around with invalid documents, phone numbers, etc... as if I had to.
If you configure a printer offering eFax free, but when you create an account, eFax, the 'Create new account' button is gray, then here's what you do:
Call eFax @ 1-800-287-3499 and select "Sales". Do not select "Customer Support" because it prompts you to enter your fax number, you do not. Tell the sales person the question and ask to be transferred to a customer support agent.
Customer support agent will take information from you such as your zip code, your email, your hpeprint email address, type of printer and then open a ticket with a representative from hp for the configuration of the fax number.
You should then receive a fax of test from the person who took your eFax number. You will get also an email with the information you need for eFax, including your fax number and your PIN.
When I created a new user account for my girls, my own family's missing "computer administrator account. Everything that I have now is my "acct kids" who says it is my "admin acct comp' now and all my icons, Favorites, all is gone and can't find it. I didn't delete it, I don't think. When I go to remove user accounts, it isn't here either. I made a password for my account before it disappeared however. Can I retrieve it somehow like that? I'm so disappointed.
It is a feature, not a bug.
Windows XP has a built-in account named "Administrator" (without the quotes). The design idea was that you should only use this account for "emergencies" and not to use it on a daily basis. This is because that the accounts of users, sometimes, be damaged, it is useful to have a verified account with full administrative access that you can use to fix things.
To "enforce" this idea (or at least to encourage users to follow), as soon as you create a new account with "Computer administrator" privileges, Windows XP hidden administrator on the Welcome screen.
The administrator account is still there.
If you have Windows XP Pro, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE twice during to the home screen when you are logged on all accounts. You will get the "classic" logon window Enter Administrator as the user and the password defined.
If you have XP Home Edition, you must start the computer Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing the F8 key just after the restart. If you see the Windows logo, you waited too long to start typing and have to start over. You can use this method without failure for XP Pro as well. Once Windows starts in Mode safe mode, the administrator account appears on the Welcome screen.
You have two options at this point: (1) make a new "computer administrator" account for your everyday use and copy to administrator stuff (and then let administrator not used except for emergency situations) or (2) create a "computer administrator" account that you will use that with the exception of emergency situations and make administrator appear on the Welcome screen. I suggest you to option (1).
(1): see "workgroup" mode here--> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 account 'Administrator' you used is the "corrupt" account the "new user profile' is the new account that you create which has"computer administrator"privileges and you will need to log on to an account with "computer administrator" privileges to do all this - which can be the 'kids' acct (which, depending on your position, does not have these privileges).
(2): make the administrator account visible on the homepage: http://www.theeldergeek.com/missing_administrator_account.htm
C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT allows you to make a backup of the registry before start you.
Note: once you have things under control and have a spare part "computer administrator" account, regardless of how you choose to do, I suggest you do your children has a "Limited user" account to limit the amount of malice, they are able to do (of course, if they are more than 8 years they will be able to find a way to work around this problem).
When you create a new account, the computer did not ask me for the opportunity to replace the old.
Follow the steps in the article.
Cannot create a new folder and name it. The name I give always comes back again record when I hit enter.
I'm assuming that happens with all new folders in the special folder that you use and that you use a "legal" name for the folder - but that is determined when you answer questions of Malke.
It's maybe a permissions issue. You will have to perhaps take full rights on the folder or even take in charge of the case.
To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab. Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users). Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions. You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).) Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.
To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights. Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab. Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK. Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions. You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner). You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.) Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
