Cannot delete Internet files in the search box.

I seem to be impossible to remove internet files that appear in the section 'drop down' in the search box. (By the search box, I mean one where you press F3 and it appears). I start to type Word on hover and press DELETE, but it will not erase. The history is quite clear.

You just deleted the history.  If you want to stop moving forward, that you have to uncheck the boxes above that make selected AutoComplete or new entries will continue to be added.  I should have mentioned that.

I hope this helps.  If this isn't the case, we will have to make a few changes to the search index, but first let's see if it works.

Good luck!

  • If I delete a file in the search results pane, am I actually delete the file or just the result of search?

I'm a bit confused about the Windows XP search results pane.  I need to winnow down remove some of the documentation noted that the results do not apply.  If I remove them in the search results pane, am I actually remove the document from the PC or just delete the search result and leave the document in its original file?

    Hello

You delete the file. Try it yourself...

    • For example, create a document with a unique name (say qwerty987.doc) word
    • Search all files and folders to qwerty987
    • Right-click on the file in the search results, and then click Open containing folder
    • Research of two results of window and the window of the folder containing the visible file (resizing and movement to achieve, as appropriate)
    • Remove the test file in the search results window and watch it disappear from the other window too

    Hello

Do you know that the file has been – a program, a Web link, a toolbar button? Have you tried to uninstall through Control Panel (programs and features)? Have you looked into the device for her Manager (if it was related to a USB or flash drive)?

I'm also not clear when you say that when you try to remove the system responds that it cannot find the file - exactly how you try to delete computer system responds? Have you tried just right click on it and then left-click Delete. What happens to the icon at this time?

Sorry, but your description sounds a little strange to me. If you could answer these questions however, I may be able to help you.

When I search documents, download or file in the search box I know are on my computer, I receive the answer that no items match my search.  Even if I open my download folder and see what I'm looking for and search for this article it says "no element not corresponding to your research."  It is very recent and I've used this feature quite often.  How can I fix?

WinXP SP3, Security Scan run and d/ld: error message when you try to download Windows Defender: "first remove Microsoft Client Protection." Cannot find this file through the Add/Remove, search, including hidden or Win Explorer. What to do now would be much appreciated.

Also have a related problem about MS Maliciouws software removal tool. For download, but read in the KB that: in XP, the vacuum cleaner will remove the malware, but doing so may trigger the File Protection Win with damages to my operating system.  the tool will attempt to repair the damage, but to rehabilitate prior to infection, that I need to insert the CD of Win. As my computer came with Windows preinstalled, I do not have a disk and will not take the risk of damage, that I can't fix. Do I not download or not... ? Another solution... ?  I also fear that this tool could settle into the routine Win Update and need guidance on the prevention of this facility, if possible, or what to do if it cannot be prevented.

It can have nothing to do with any of the foregoing. " I'm relaying only because it occurred during the same mission of update: had msg of error that Win Firewall has not been set as a default, which reset, but found this hidden file when searching for the Protection of the customer: "Win 32/Hackdef' - it was a config with the extension ini file and was deleted by Scan."

Thanks a lot for any assistance.

    Hello

    ·         You have Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer?

If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.

  • Cannot delete a file in windows 7. Indicates the specified file name is not valid or too long.

Hello everyone, I'm pretty stuck here. I can't delete a file in windows 7 or any other do with it besides. Says "the specified file name is not valid or too long. It has a funny name [~ t] and no extension. The file type, say "file". The properties are all screwed looking with a mistake on the Security tab, a size of 0 k, is a Windows (c) \Windows\en-US.The other files in this folder appear normal. The computer seems to work very well without any obvious problems. The only problem is my anti-virus reports with a kind of syntax for the file error and indicates it cannot parse this file. I do not. I can't do a thing with it either. Cannot open, rename, move, delete, change passwords, properties, permissions, nothing. It may be necessary for a good part with 0kb. According to me, I want to just delete the thing. Please, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Hey bud, I figured out how fix it earlier. I am so happy. I came to remember a command called chkdsk which worked very well for various issues, that I had since the construction of my old 2000 Professional machine. I think that one was my first NTFS system. I always liked how well he error correction. Seemed a lot better than the old scandisk. Low and behold, I tried and star ANISE, it is went through it, found this file almost from the beginning of the analysis and a few lines later, he said has been removed. Says something about the file being orphaned some time ago. It was a very bad child, that I tell you. I ran it in safe mode command prompt. I guess he would have done the same thing in the normal windows well, but I happened to be in safemode, when it came to me. I used the switch /f with her. Since the C:\ command prompt or any drive letter your operating system is selected, type CHKDSK/F if I remember although the f was to have it automatically CORRECT errors. I hope this info helps others with their file or disk problems. It seems that many people say they get mistakes and cannot delete various files here in these forums. Thanks Sandeep for answering me and try to help. It does not matter whether or not it was the fix, it takes time to post and your helping people learn to be it. The only thing that remains unanswered for me is actually the thing of the answer. I mean I can't say someone at - it really answered my question and do not count me? Maybe I should mark so that people will bother to read it and get the fix. HMMMM... I come back here some time later and see whats up.  SeeYou, EWOO

  • The search box in the Start Menu

I typed a word in the search box and results list the files that I was looking for.  But also displayed are backup files I had created in December, copied to my hard drive external and then deleted from my PC.  When I looked in the properties file, it said they were in my user folder. I checked and they were not in the folder of the user, nor that they were in the trash.  I typed the name of one of these files displayed in the results of the search box in the Google Desktop Search with results 0 of this description files.  Windows suddenly developed ESP with these ghost files?

    Hi Chrisana!

No problem. In Vista, choses things are a little different. Your problem is probably caused by the index not updated. The index is updated in the background, so I would check now to see if, in these last days the index has been updated and files of "shadow" will no longer appear. If the problem is not resolved, rebuild your index manually. It is a process in three easy steps.

    1. Open Indexing Options from the control panel or by typing "Indexing Options" in the search box of the start menu.
    2. Click the Advanced button. If you get a UAC prompt on the rise, click to allow.
    3. Click the Refresh button.

Once the reconstruction starts, you can click OK/Cancel out Indexing Options. He finished in the background. Note that this may take some time to complete, I suggest to leave it before leave you for the day or head to bed. Otherwise, your computer may start slow as you try to use it while indexing happens. This is why the reindexing takes place in the background, normally.

    Good luck!

  • After the upgrade to 20.0 FF (Ubuntu Linux), some of the icons to the right of the search box on the Navigation toolbar disappeared - Springpad, Evernote, etc..

After upgrading to FF 20.0 some of the icons (not the Favicons) to the right of the search box on the Navigation toolbar keep disappearing. The icons are Springpad Clipper, Pocket, Evernote, Ghostery, Greasemonkey extension. Whenever I start FF some (or all) of them are missing. I tried a Firefox "Reset". The first time after the reset, after synchronization, all icons appeared. The second time (now) the Springpad icon disappeared.

    General file recovery

If you stop using the drive, it is possible to recover files that have not been overwritten by using the recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, recovering files or TechTool Prodeleted.  Each of the previous ones come on a bootable CD for use without risk of writing, more data on the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are disc drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos to MacUpdate or CNET downloads. Recovery software generally provide trial versions that allows you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond that, or if the drive has completely failed, you must send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.

The hard drive remains the most widely used and the data are recorded, the greater the chance that your deleted files will be overwritten.

Also, visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on data recovery.
