  Most laptops have a function key (FN) which can be used in combination with other keys for example FN + F2 or FN + F7 to disable or enable the touchpad.

  I have a HP laptop Compaq Presario R3000 running XP sp2.
  While trying to install software for my new HP laserjet printer 451color, I couldn't finish because my computer seems to have a problem with the file gdiplus.dll.  After a regsvr32 in the "Run" dialog box, I get the following message: "gdiplus.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.  This file cannot be saved. " This problem MAY occur in the past, while the installation of other software or printer, I don't remember, but I CAN get frustrated with it and simply ignored and passed without being able to use everything I tried to add. (I get so tired things does not in the way they are supposed to!)

  I've updated to SP3, which did not help.  I am considering a system recovery. I don't want to lose all my programs, drivers, etc.. I did a search and read as a:
  «Startup Repair replace only damaged or missing Windows startup files.» In a Windows XP repair install, Windows all files are replaced no matter whether or not they wish to.   While this article is not about the issue that you are experiencing it however has a patch to replace a bad file gdiplus.dll. Give the patch a whirlwind (it should replace and properly record) and I would like to know the results:

  A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... and download Adobe Reader 11.0 installation base.

  Then download each individual updates and run them sequentially.

  I installed back to the last update of security which is version 08 and were able to register under normal operations.

  You will need to disable the automatic updates to keep up with the 08 version, until Adobe fixes this problem in a future release.
