Cannot disable Touchpad on Windows 7.

I am running Windows 7 and I want to disable the touchpad. When I try to disable it in Device Manager, the option 'Disable' is not clickable. When I try 'Delete' option, it says I have to restart my computer to apply the changes, but after that I restarted my computer, the Touchpad is still active.

Thank you.

Hello

I got an even hard to disable touchpad, and I had the problem in this way. If possible, connect an external mouse into a USB port, then open the Touchpad control properties tab and look for a framework written something like this: disable the Touchpad when an external mouse is detected.

Go back to Device Manager, and then try to disable the Touchpad. As an external mouse is already connected so I have a registered pointing device, Windows would let me disable the Touchpad without reinstalling on the next reboot.

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

Kind regards

BearPup

  • Portege R830 - cannot disable touchpad

Hello, strange question. But can not turn off the touchpad on a Portégé R830 (Windows 7 32 bit). I've seen this problem on two of the machines I have. This has never been a problem for the models Tecra I got, M5, M9, M10, M11, etc. R840.

I have the latest driver installed Alps, from Toshiba.co.uk. I tried the button on the touchpad, it does not work. The device of the Alps can be disabled in the Device Manager. I tried the Toucpad of the State system, Advanced tab, toolbar properties Advanced settings. It doesn't have a single parameter «Disable touchpad» There is no option to disable the touchpad when you use a USB mouse - however, this does not work.

Can anyone help with this? The only other option I can think of is the BIOS, but it would be inappropriate to my users, who may want to turn it back on it at a certain point during execution of Windows.

    Hi liamw,

You can disable the touchpad if you press the FN + F9 key combination. The touchpad will be disabled until you press this combination of keys again, but a mouse external isn t touched. That means you can still use a same USB touchpad mouse is disabled with FN + F9 key combination.

All you need to do is use the FN + F9 key combination and choose the DISABLED option. You can also check the properties of the mouse. There must be the same option too.

    Hi Jim,.

What is the brand and model of the laptop?

You can follow these steps to disable the touchpad when using an external mouse.

    a. click Start on your computer screen (lower left corner), and then type main.cpl in the search box. When you finish typing, click Enter on your keyboard.

    b. in the new window that opens, click settings tab at the top. It should be the last on the right.

    c. While in the device settings section, make sure that the name of your touchpad is highlighted (it should be already), and then click the disable button. Click OK, and then click OK again when the warning box appears.

You can check the hot keys on your laptop to turn off the Touchpad. Go through the user manual to do.

I know my little laptop is a little dated now, but I just had to have a new HDD and redo everything.

    Hello

I guess that you can not use the FN + F9 options. Right?
This means that you have not installed the driver for the touchpad and / or the VAP (value added package).

Do it to get the keys FN working again.

  • Satellite A350 - cannot disable Touchpad

    Hello

I bought my new computer A350 laptop 3-4 weeks ago and I'm loving the sound QUALITY!

In any case, I want to disable the mouse pad, but I can't. I have the guid of the user on my laptop, that says: Touchpad: by pressing FN + F9 toggles the function of touch pad. Unfortunately it does not work! When I press it nothing happens, I don't see a change in the touchpad icon, which apparently, so well done must have a big red X or something like that, but again, this does not happen.

I also looked at the properties of the mouse of my mouse, and when I select the Advanced tab, then move the settings of the feature..., under the touch pad settings, there is no option to disable that is extremely strange. There is another button of parameters for what can I press on, but there is no option to turn it off.

What should I do to disbale the touchpad, because at the time of writing these, pressing FN + F9 does not work?

    > Hi, thanks for the response. I am running Windows vista Service Pack 1 Home Premium that was already installed when I bought it. I don't know if I'm running the factory settings, nor have I ever heard of this?

If you use the operating system preinstalled by Toshiba, then you use Notepad with the settings ;)

In your case I would recommend reinstalling the touchpad driver; Synaptics and Alps Electric.
In addition, there is a utility called tool Support Flash Cards.
This module is an essential component of Windows systems and it is necessary to other original programs for TOSHIBA to work properly.

The relocation of the VAP (value added package) is also recommended.

    Hello

You could try the next option.

Open windows control panel and on the top right, next to the display by: select "large icons".  The new layout, select the entry for the mouse and then select the tab 'Settings ClickPad'.

Enter a check mark against "Disable pointing device internal when the external USB pointing device is attached" - see image below - then click on apply then Ok to save the change.

  • Disable TouchPad on Windows 7

I am running Windows 7 and usually use an external mouse.  How can I disable the touchpad when that mouse is connected?  I was able to do in Vista, but have not been able to find a way to do this under Windows 7.

    Thank you!

It varies by the manufacturer of the laptop but on my Dell Studio with windows 7 if I go to control - material & audio Panel then select mouse under devices & printers, the last tab in the mouse properties window gives me the ability to control the touchpad which turn it off.

  • How to disable the touchpad in windows 8 - Pavilion g6

How to disable the touchpad in windows 8 - Pavilion g6

    Welcome to the forum, Sally.

There are several ways to do this - method you choose may depend on what you need to accomplish.

    Follow a few ideas.

    • A double tap farm in the upper left corner of the touch pad if it off for a single session.

    Enable / disable

Control Panel > display icon > mouse > Settings of TouchPad > click on "enable TouchPad.

They continue parameters to install and configure the TouchPad as you like it...

    ==========================================================================

A method that works with the pilots 'old', it is a failure of session by session...

Make sure this setting is ON / CHECKED:

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

() repeat) TouchPad settings (button) > click tapping >

    Click the shimmering blue wheel

In "box to Disable TouchPad settings".

CHECK "Double Tap to activate / disable the TouchPad.

In the 'Action in the upper left'

CHECK "Disable the TouchPad during a session.

    Close

    Ok

NOTE that, if it is available on your version, you can select to "turn off the TouchPad" - that's fine, unless something goes wrong.  You could get stuck without your USB mouse AND no way to return to the setting to activate the touchpad.  I don't know if I would use this setting.

    ======================================================================================

    Next...
Latest drivers (V16.x) have the ability to disable the TouchPad / click on the keypad with a setting on the main page 'Settings' when a USB mouse is used.  This is a very nice feature.

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

CHECK "disable the pointing device internal when the external USB pointing device is attached.

If you want to be alerted and see a visual cue of disability >

TICK "Animated icon in the taskbar" >

and make sure you have your updated task bar notifications so you can see the view of the mouse.

  • Satellite L455D - How can I disable touchpad & WiFi slow

I just got this new laptop and I really NEED to disable the touchpad. It drives me crazy jumping everywhere when I type.

I tried Fn + F9 and it does not work. I looked in the control panel and I can uninstall the drivers, but can't turn it off. I like to use a mouse ball roll except when I'm traveling, so I don't want to uninstall the drivers. Is there a simple way to turn it off?

In addition, it seems to be EXTREMELY slow to access the internet with a Wi - Fi connection. Nothing is different with my internet connection or service except that cell phone provider is probably ten times slower than my old laptop.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I can't go back to Acer because the motherboard is dead or I would be.

    > Is there a simple way to turn it off?

Go to the Panel control-equipment and audio peripheral slot and printers, click the mouse, you will see the Touchpad settings windows. In this touchpad settings windows, go to the device settings and check, disable the external internal when pointing device usb pointing device is connected, press on, apply, and Ok.
