Cannot download the updates of Windows, or indeed all Microsoft downloads

I recently bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex DX270 with XP Pro SP3 preinstalled. About a week later your beautiful auto update destroyed and I had an endless loop. After a lot of messing around and discussion with the supplier, I decided to re - install Windows using the recovery disk because there was very little on the machine.

This started the following problem. Whenever I try to download updates or anything from Microsoft, I get the can't access to this message.

After another 2 days of internet seaching and following instructions for this problem, that I still get nowhere, except that I have downloaded a lot of so-called patches using my laptop, then transferred to the Dell by using a memory stick.

I'm about fed up with this now, as the refurbished PC was supposed to speed up my work and prevent me from having to use an old PC that reboots whenever it receives the inclination (usually in the middle of creating complex spreadsheets). Instead, I spend a lot of time that I could be making money, by sorting the MS caused me problems!

I followed the advice on another thread to run WGA and display the results in the WGA forum, only to be told by the moderator of this forum that I should ask the question in the present case. The merry-go-round continues.

What application or antivirus security suite has been installed when you met the 'loop' and was your current subscription?

What application or anti-virus security suite is installed now and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?

A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a test free version comes preinstalled when you buy it and that would have been reinstalled, but invalid, when you reinstalled Windows)?

    Hi emiquestion:

Long 'check for updates...' crashes and slow window updates are a currently a problem common to many users of Vista SP2 - please see the workaround suggested, I posted yesterday over BluesBlaster WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT updates.

Note that it is a temporary workaround and updates slow Windows will probably return each Patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of the month) after Microsoft also releases a new batch of updates to security for Vista SP2 and IE9.  Since September 2016 Patch Tuesday updates are published tomorrow (13-Sep-2016), it would be wise to wait a day or two to execute step-by-step instructions posted on June 16, 2016, in m #l's thread of updates does not, he has been looking for updates for hours and save yourself a bit of extra work this month.  Dalai normally updates its list of Windows kernel mode driver (Win32K.sys) implemented to date required the same evening that the Patch Tuesday, updates are published by Microsoftto the http://wu.krelay.de/en/ .

I can't install the update for Windows vista (KB2718704), a mode without failure or after clean window reboot.

    What should I do?

    Hello

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    ·         You are able to install other updates successfully?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software .

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot State to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow step 7 the link to start the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • 8024402 cannot search the updates of Windows

    Hello

Vista 64 HP with many problems. Has been purchased already installed by manuf. may 2009. Sent to them Jan 2010 to recover or reinstall the operating system due to the loss of the ability to install/uninstall programs after SP2. Now Windows Update (among many other things) has stopped working (apparently since March), even if the update is set to automatic. When I try manually 8024402C error code stops the attempt and it says that Windows could not search for new updates. Also, since on 25 March, I have been unable to use Windows Live Mail (freezes) and McAfee Site Advisor stopped working but is not disabled. Also have problems copy photos or documents and from my external hard drive; photos say the missing properties. Cannot change the documents if they are on my external (although I can change if external is connected to my Windows XP computer).  I disabled my antivirus/spyware/firewall and tried UPDATE but still the same error. I have been seeking assistance with Windows Live Mail since the start of freezing March 25 and isn't odd that UPDATING claims is the last attempt made on 25 March 2010 at 05:35 and the latest updates of installed Windows were as of 03/23/2010 at 06:53. What has been actually updated the 3/23 was "IE 8 compatibility view for WinVista 64 list based systems (KB980302) but I've seen compatibility disabled (unchecked). Windows has updated anything since 23/03/2010.

I am totally frustrated with HP64 Vista. Help, please.  Thank you

    1. McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. See if this triple McAfee fix solves the problem: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

NB: #1 correction of the triple step has you uninstall the McAfee application. After that, make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled.

NB: Keep this useful link. Chances are that you will have to redo the fix three steps every time that the McAfee application is automatically upgraded to a newer version.

    2. now run this difficulty in default and aggressive modes: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

    3. restart & test.

Comment: Little, if any, security experts have a very good opinion of these ISP freebies.

  • Cannot install the update to windows defender on Windows vista KB915597.

My update history shows clearly that these latest download windows defender as kb915597 impossible to install.  In the past when I had downloads fail to install via automatic updates, I went directly to the microsoft.com website and downloaded the file specifically.  The problem was sometimes due to a need to check a box for authorization.  In this case when I went to the microsoft down load Web site it does not recognize the existence of the file KB915597 so I'm at a lost what to do even if automatic updates has not attempted to repeat the download.

Inadvertently, I managed to solve this problem.  I've just upgraded to office 2010, and to do so when the program picked up security updates for office 2010 windows Defender update KB915597 appeared and this time has been downloaded successfully.  So it seems that if using an earlier version of office may be the problem.
