  Thanks for the reply. Before I check for any response, I used ubuntu live cd to remove the offending unscrupulously folder.

  I really don't think it's anything to do with my windows account (although I didn't try the solution you suggested).

  During the copy process that something has been broken that created this file with the path, but no other property, I think that this "confused" windows and it wouldn't recognize that it exists.

  It would depend what your e-mail program and what sorting or filtering options it supports.

  1. When did you start to question?

  2. what exactly happens when you try to delete the mails?

  3. do you get error messages or error codes?

  You can try to rename delete point .dbx and check:

  a. Click Start, point to find and then click files or folders.

  b. in the named, box type deleted item.dbx

  (c) in the area to look in, click on your main hard drive (usually drive C), and then click Find now.

  d. right-click on the deleted item.dbx file and then click Rename.

  e. type deleted item.dbxold, and then click ok.

  f. launch Outlook Express. This creates new files. Try to delete e-mails and check.

  Note: You can try to create a new folder and move all messages from the Inbox, and delete items before you rename files.

  Using 'Organize bookmarks' I can delete individual bookmarks, but when I try to remove the empty folder, the "Delete" option is grayed out.

  The folder in which you are trying to delete?

  In the left pane of the library (bookmarks > organize bookmarks) there are three main files in the folder "All bookmarks" ("Bookmarks Toolbar", "Bookmarks Menu", "Unsorted Bookmarks").
  You cannot delete these main folders.

  * The Bookmarks Toolbar folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the (View > Toolbars >) Bookmarks Toolbar.
  * The Bookmarks Menu folder stores bookmarks that you see in the Bookmarks menu and create via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or "Bookmark This Link" in the right click context menu.

  Try the following (in that order).  Looks like you're using Windows (not a Mac), so I'll make this assumption...

  Shut down (power off) the computer, disconnect all the USB devices.  Plug the laptop power adapter, so that it does not work on battery power.  Do this Reset (reboot), the iPod

  Start computer, run iTunes and connect the iPod to a USB direct on the laptop by itself.  If there is no difference, put the iPod in Disk Mode

  Put the iPod in disk - Apple Support Mode

  I have Hotmail and I was able to retrieve the deleted message. At the bottom of one of the screens Hotmail (it may have been the spam screen), there is a note saying 'click here' (or something like that) to get to the top of your deleted messages recently. Although even I had emptied all deleted/junk messages, MSN could display all or most of the messages because they did not have them banned in the cemetery of e-mail yet. Thank you MSN and thank you Ken Blake and vader 95 for taking the time to answer.
