Cannot Flash the BIOS on A100 (PSAA8E) - flash process freezes

Hey everybody.

I am owner of a laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-283 (PSAA8E-1DL044GR)

I intend to move the CPU (T1350) to a T2400 dual core.

Before I open the laptop to install the new CPU, I want to assure you that the BIOS will support it-so, I want to upgrade the BIOS to the newest 6.00 version on the Toshiba support site.

The flash BIOS (S10V600.exe) file is a self-extracting RAR starts automatically the good process of WinPhlash.

Unfortunately, the last step in the WinPhlash process does not start.
Instead, the system locks up completely with a CPU usage to 100% (spinning fan at full speed).

The new BIOS only if written to the BIOS chip since I hard-restarting the laptop and normally boot my linux system. The BIOS is always the version 2.00.

My questions:

-Any of you who have already updated the BIOS on this system knew what could cause this?
-What operating system did you use to Flash the BIOS?

I was running Flash on a WinXP SP3 LiveCD (Hiren Boot CD) utility, the file loading flash BIOS from a USB storage device (I don't have Windows and would like to avoid to get a new SATA drive and install a 'real' windows there just to upgrade my BIOS, but I would if it could be the only way to get the BIOS flashed)

Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks and greetings from Germany to the rest of Europe!

First update the BIOS won't help you if the old BIOS would not support the new processor.
In General, you can only use the CPU that is supported by the chipset.
As much as I know, that the new processors are not added to new versions of BIOS

> What OS did you use to Flash the BIOS?
Since the available BIOS version is based on the Windows version, you must use the Windows which has been pre-installed by Toshiba.
In many cases, the update of the BIOS requires VAP (value added package) which is necessary if you are running Vista or Win7.

    Hi all.

    Pls help...

I tried to update my bios to the new version, but I can't.

I just downloaded bios update of the toshiba site for portage r600 for my model number (bios update 1.80 - winner), I unzip the zip, run the exe, but error popup came:

So my question is what am I doing wrong? I'm trying to update my bios from windows.

I bought on ebay and the seller sold me a dubious version of xp so I want to format and install my own at the start he said:

The Intel Boot Agent GE v1.2.31 initialization
KE - E05: the LAN adapter's configuration is corrupted or has not been initialized. Boot agent cannot continue

    Hello

The message looks like you tried to boot and install Windows LAN

If you want to change the boot order, I recommend pressing the F12 key, immediately after that the laptop was turned on!

A new start menu should appear, then you can choose the reader of CD/DVD (ODD) and a boot device.

Also by pressing the C button should allow you to boot from the CD inserted, bootable.

  • Re: How to run the update to the BIOS of the DOS - Satellite A100 PSAA8A command prompt?

I'm having some trouble with my GF Satellite A100 (PSAA8A). When installing a new HARD drive with a clean install of XP, I flashed by chance, one of the BIOS when installing drivers. Its kind of bricks now.

Using a floppy disk CD boot, combined with the update of the V6.00 BIOS, I goes to a DOS command prompt, but not sure where to go now.

Under * Tradional BIOS update *.
    See the link: [http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS & FID = TRO0000000b07]

    It is said:
+ 1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder. +
+ 2. Three subfolders will be generated in the temporary folder. "docs", "update - 3.5' disc', 'Update - CD - R or CD - RW +.
+ 3. Insert a 1.44 MB diskette formatted in the floppy disk drive. +
+ 4. Run the *.exe file in the folder "" Update - 3.5 disk ". Follow the instructions on the screen. A BIOS update diskette will be generated. +

But there is no 3 folder. There is only a single called S10VWF that contains Winphlash etc. (see photo url). As far as I know, I can only run Winphlash Windows environment due to its GUI. Then what should I do? Help!

    Hi Brett

There is a little thing that you have forgotten or supervised.

The BIOS you downloaded is a version of BIOS to WIN. It s not traditional BIOS update!

The description published in your ad describes the update using the traditional BIOS.
But the Toshiba driver page only provides updates of BIOS based VICTORY. The BIOS can be upgraded only from Windows operating system running.

Please don't mix these two possibilities of updates!

  • Cannot access the Bios Uefi more on E535

    Hello community,

I recently bought a new laptop E535, works like a charm so far. Access BIOS was possible by pressing enter directly after machine, that came a kind of JOB analysis which could be ignored by pressing any key and that came a kind of table where I could access Bios by pressing a key (do not remember which it was exactly). Otherwise I could enter Bios when the boot menu by pressing tab, who passed on another tab where Bios could be entered (also a kind of diagnosis of the programs could be launched). As mentioned in the subject, it is impossible for me to do that now, after I did the following:

-traded integrated with a new (access still possible Bios) SSD HDD

-changed in the BIOS boot mode, both (legacy + UEFI) in Uefi only (maybe it's the problematic point, but I'm not sure)

-Installed Windows 7 using Uefi on ssd

Not when I press on enter on startup it brings me to the Windows boot menu manager (you know where you can say to start Windows normally or in safe mode and so). Menu of startup has also not changed with a new section "starting windows" (finally), but when switch to another tab, it is empty now, no entry for Bios setup or diagnostic tests more.

It's really bad. I googled around and tried the following until now without success:

    -Pressing F1 instead of entry

-Portable stop and start with F1 key

    -boot without HDD

-from HARD drive without amendment, which was originally installed in the laptop (which cannot be started more, probably because it has been installed in legacy mode)

I also thought about flashing the bios, but the latest version available on the lenovo support seems to be 1.04, but pre installed on my laptop is 1.10, so my version is much more recent. Should I try to still the flash?

While looking around, I found a post that looks like a lot to my problem, but without any other ideas how to solve this problem except for mail in my machine:

    http://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/ThinkPad-edge/edge-E320-can-t-enter-BIOS-after-changing-from-UEFI-to-leg...

    Thanks for your help

    Best regards

It seems to be a very rare problem with installing Windows 7 in UEFI mode, thanks to the help of the "someotherguy" forum member I could solve it. Others running into the same problem should contact him directly.

  • Cannot find the BIOS for Satellite 1900-803

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba satalite s1900-303 (model number-ps192e-00g1n-en) and I'm not.
I have somehow locked myself out of the laptop. I used to haver a password to use the laptop. This password is not only for the bios, it is also necessary for the operation of the laptop.

Somehow the password has changed and that's why I can't use the laptop at all. I contacted toshiba store and theyu said to use a loopback serial cable to fix it somehow and he also mentioned in an attempt to crush the bios with a new.

I would like to try this, but I can't find the Bios or drivers. I was wondering if someone can help me solve this problem please.

PS: When regestering on the toshiba site I had to enter the serial number for the laptop.
The model under my name says 1900-803 when the sticker on the laptop clearly said 1900-803

    Hello

    > I have somehow locked myself on the laptop. I put a password for the laptop. This password is not only for the bios, it is also necessary for the operation of the laptop.

I think that you have set the BIOS password.
Unfortunately, the BIOS password can be removed from the laptop if you n t know the old password.
You can not remove also the BOS password by updating the BIOS. If you would try to update the BIOS while the password is set then the ROM module flashes not properly and you laptop will not boot! It s dangerous!

Only Toshiba authorised service provider can remove the BIOS password. Ask the technicians!

PS: You book is a model of Satellite 1900-803 and BIOS, drivers, tools, etc. can be found on the European driver Toshiba page in * file Archive!

  • LV RT2010 on PXI-8145RT - cannot upgrade the BIOS

    Hello

My lab has a pair of PXI systems controlled by 8145RT PXI and LabView 2010 because we have not upgraded for awhile. As far as I know, this controller should be usable with LV2010 RT.

However, when I try to install the software on the target using MAX, I get a message informing me that the software I would like to install (LV - Rt 10.0) is incompatible with the operating system loaded on the machine. The ethernet driver install without problem, for what it is worth.

When you try to upgrade the BIOS, I first got a message that the controller contains the version 10.2 and 10.3 version is available on the host. If I try to follow the upgrade procedure (jumper W2 bridged, of course) the controller sees a bit of business network, reboots, gets a little more traffic, and then MAX tells me that the update has failed.

I can see that the flash update program was transferred to the target and set as the boot executable, but clearly it was not entirely successful. Can anyone help with this? I upgraded to 512 MB CF card (which he has no problem using) and RAM 64 Mo - I didn't have an old 128 MB SODIMM autour. What is the problem? Starting with redirect series will help something? I have to build a null modem to make this work.

For anyone in a similar situation.

In the end, I decided to downgrade to LV2009 on my development machine and try things again. With the help of LV2009/LVRT2009/MAX4.6, I was able to upgrade the version of the BIOS on both of my controllers 8145RT - correctly we from 10.2 to 10.3 and 9.1 to 10.3. After that, I was able to install RT2009 + DaqMX + another need of the components on the controller for which I had updated size RAM and CF. There is not a lot of memory to spare, but the controller starts in LVRT(9.0/2009) and I have successfully deployed an application to test on this subject.

My application may require an upgrade to faster hardware in the end, but the 8145RT must stay a usable under LV2009 for simple tasks controller. I suspect that LVRT2010 would work, now that I got the BIOS upgrade, but I'm not inclined to test this right now.

As for the original question of the update of the BIOS fault, I'm pretty sure it is a bug in MAX 4.7.  4.6 MAX had no trouble to initiate an update to the exact same version as 4.7 was trying (10.3); I suspect that MAX 4.7 have not properly configured the CF environment to start the flash update program.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Pavilion p6 2408eb Desktop PC: cannot access the bios to boot from the disk

    Hello

I have virus and spyware on my PC. I want to reinstall my drive c with windows 7 instead of 8.1 or at least perform a system recovery, but I can't boot from the drive.

The only items on google I can find state I must disable secure boot and then enter the bios to set the boot order so it starts on the first disc.

The problem is that my monitor is idle (power light flashes) when I try to enter the BIOS. I tried to type esc/f11/f1 or press del to enter bios but my monitor then is idle and never enters the BIOS or go to the windows start screen. If it recognizes clearly that I typed bios key because he won't go to the windows startup screen after that pressing said key.

I also tried recovery windows and tool HP system recovery but at a certain point, it asks me to restart the pc and here again he is stuck at the idle monitor... I never see the start-up of the screen or the other, one that says "press x to enter the bios. My computer will always directly to the windows splash screen once I started.

Any idea what I might try next?

    Hello

Consult this publication article before attempting the downgrade of your PC to Windows 7. I have no recommemd making a downgrade on Windows 8 is superior to Windows 7.

The default settings for the BIOS of your PC 8 version are: inherited and secure boot disabled.

Erasing the CMOS memory will bring back the default values and then you should be able to start the Windows 7 installation media.

This similar model PC will have Windows 7 drivers.

If you have not created the external HP recovery media then you must order at HP if you decide to go back to Windows 8.

(* 1) * my knowledge the CMOS battery is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced like for example on desktop PC
(* 2) * remove the CMOS battery would NOT reset the BIOS nor would be to remove the passwords.

If I understand your problem, you are not able to access the BIOS, but you can start the laptop and the system. Is this correct?

You have a kind of password (user / supervisor password?)

  • Cannot reset the BIOS password

I have reset the bios by disconnecting the battery, but the password remains still.
When I enter the password wrong 4 times the system BIOS is locked, but I'm not giving any number or key.
I have a laptop Elitebook 820. Please help someone!

    Hello

Unfortunately, business machines such as Probooks or EliteBook have more strict security consumption patterns - they do not produce "stop codes", the password cannot be derived from the serial number and the code is stored in a nonvolatile memory to remove the RTC cell does not reset the password in this case.

If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a file custom SMC.bin that you can use to reset the password at startup.

    Kind regards

    Hi Ivor,

    1. you receive messages or error codes when you try to start in normal mode?

    2. did you of recent changes on the system?

Usually, you must press a key (for example, F2, F12, DEL, ESC) or a key combination whenever you turn on your computer but before Windows starts. The choice of the function key varies depending on the brand of your computer.
