Cannot increase the RAM in end-15 27 "iMac, retina

This question drove me crazy.

End of last year, I bought an iMac 27 "new retina (17.1 model) with 16 GB of RAM of factory. I have since decided to upgrade to 32 GB myself - but apparently not.

I tried both levels of separate module of Crucial (both sticks 2x8GB, configured by using memory widget Crucial own the latter, so I think it was the 'right' RAM). Both times, after the installation, my iMac would not start. I get the kernel panic, then reboot after reboot goes no further than the Apple logo.

Conjecturing that it must be a problem with Crucial RAM, I ordered two modules from OWC. This time, I realized an online chat with a Counsellor OWC just to make sure that the triple, I was getting the right modules.

Result: same kernel panics, same inability to start. After you have uninstalled the aftermarket RAM my iMac works fine.

And, Yes, I want to install RAM correctly (I did several times with previous computers that are much more difficult to upgrade). I also tried the papillotes in different slots (lots of combinations), switch reset PRAM, etc. etc. Nothing works.

I wonder... all the stories of 'success' on Amazon and Crucial and OWC come people who completely REPLACE their factory in RAM with spare sticks? Seriously, I think that the issue is an incompatibility with the aftermarket RAM and the factory stuff. On the other hand, I am reluctant to throw 16 GB of perfectly good 'Apple' RAM just to open the four slots for 32 GB OWC.

I know that Crucial has been (or is still) a provider of RAM to Apple, so this is really surprising.

It is interesting to try to pick up sticks 'factory' (which will be costly, of course)? I believe that my 'Apple' RAM made by Samsung. Is there a reliable source for this?

Or I'm doing something completely wrong? (Can't imagine what it would be. I've even been through a chat tech with OWC has nothing to help).

In fact, I wonder if I now won't be able to max out my RAM (assuming I decide to eBay my Apple sticks and just go all new).

Difficult for me to believe that the iMac is that picky about RAM...

Thanks for the ideas.

I do not have a 2015 end iMac, so I don't know if the problem which arose with iMac 2010 might be similar; before connecting a couple of these very long old threads, most of the problems was: the iMac 27 "would go happily with factory all the RAM, or with less of a mix of OEM and third party RAM (12 GB) max, but would have problems with 16 GB of third party RAM maxed out. I used to have a such 2010 and stayed with a total of 12 GB of RAM (OEM 4 GB and 8 GB of RAM from OWC) worked well.

Problem with 16 GB on 2010 iMac 27 "i5 & i7.

I7 memory issues new iMac 27 "2010

Other than the usual suspects such as faulty RAM, RAM slot, or not seated correctly, if you have time, you might want to try to install unless the maximum - it is a shot in the dark, but...

    Hello.

I bought an iMac of office in 2005/2006. It's the Intel Core Duo, 10.4.11. I think he has a 512 RAM.

In 2010, the computer turns off completely and the technician replaced only the HD and the computer is still in good condition and functioning.

I would like to know if it is possible to increase the RAM to 2 GB/4 GB on my desk so that I can use a later operating system (IE 10.6/10.8).

    Any comment is appreciated.

It can be updated to 2 or 4 GB of RAM to function.

  • NotebookPavillon HP dv6 1058el: increase the RAM

    Hello

I have upgraded my HP Pavilion dv6 1058el from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and now with Windows 64 bit 10.

I want to increase the RAM memory.

    Now I have 2 modules "2 GB 2Rx8 PC2 - 6400 S-666-12-E3" for a total of 4 GB.

    I want to install:

    - or 2 4 GB modules for a total of 8 GB;

    - or only 1 module of 8 GB.

Please, could you tell me what and where to buy these new RAM module/s?

    I thank in advance

    Claudio

Well, here's the problem. Your memory is DDR2 which is obsolete. They make 4 gig DDR2 (not 8 GB) modules, but a pair of them will cost more $US and maybe as much as $150US. Too much to spend on an old laptop.

    Hi @HPIsha

I understand that you have performance problems with your laptop (speed, gels, etc.). I'm happy to help you with this.

I'd take a glance on the following pages; There will be an overlap between them, but each is useful.

Some software Applications may cause Windows to start or run slowly

Windows 7 stops responding or becomes very slow after you connect to the Internet

Set the performance of the slow system (Windows 7)

It is possible that it could also be a hardware problem, but it is most likely too much software, loading or running in the background and thus more taxing your processor. These pages can help with this and other common causes such as malware and other cousins of software.

Try these first, because these solutions are free. When it comes to hardware such as memory upgrades, you need to get the memory to do the upgrade, and it must be of the correct type to be usable.

You can check this link for the Service Manual: Compaq Presario CQ42 Notebook PC and PC portable HP G42 - Maintenance and Service of Guide. In it, you will see the type and compatible variety.

    I hope this helps.

I own a Macbook pro mid 2012. Now I want to increase the RAM of 4 GB to 8 GB, please suggest if this update will help me to improve my performance to macbook.

It will help in cases where the applications require more than 4 GB of RAM.  Otherwise, there will be no noticeable difference.  If you really want to increase the speed, an SSD is the best option.  They cost about 3 x's + more than a traditional HDD of same capacity...

  • HP laptop - 15-r100ne: increase the Ram

    Hello

I am owner of a proude of 2 computers HP Laptops:

    the old G62-100SL

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-15-R100-notebook-PC-series/7234951/model/7467859?cc=us&lang=e...

I wonder about how to increase the ram in the second one the 15-r100ne

the old man had a spesific ram cover so I can access the back of the laptop's RAM without removing any component,

but in the new to access ram, I need to remove the component from the following:

    Keyboard
    Top cover
    WLAN module
    System Board

whitch would of course hard work just to replace the ram

I wonder about the best way to increase the ram of the computer laptop 15-r100ne?

You have the i3 processor so your model has two memory slots. Here is the Manual:

    Manual

    RAM max is 16 GB (2 x 8 gig DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM)

Bad news: the upgrade of memory means remove the motherboard that does not have an after-sales procedure approved.

See page 76 of the manual.

  • As the computer is old and slow it is better to increase the RAM or better to invest in a new computer update?

    original title: lack of RAM

McAfee, unable to update as the only security base 256 and 512 MB of RAM required. As the computer is old and slow it is better to increase the RAM or better to invest in a new computer update. Would appreciate help in this case. Also as I'm pretty computer illiterate, please use the terms that I can follow. Thank you

    Hi Kathleen Almeida,.

Because the computer is old, instead of upgrading the ram, you can buy new computer. I suggest you contact system manufacturer more about if you need to upgrade or buy a new computer.

  • Pavilion g4: LM753LA: increase the RAM in HP Pavilion g4

    Hello

I want to increase the RAM on my HP Pavilion g4. I don't know what is the model number, but I'm sure the product number is LM753LA.

Can you help me please to understand what I can buy RAM? Today it has 3 GB (I think there are two slots: 1 x 2 GB and 1 x 1 GB) and I would replace the 1 GB of RAM with 4 GB of RAM, that's good enough for me.

I understand that I must choose a memory as follows:

    • 4 GB (to replace the 1 GB)
    • DDR3-SDRAM
    • 204-pin SO-DIMM

    Does make sense for you?

Are there other features should I consider to make sure that the memory works in my notebook? MHz FSB, voltage etc. ?

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Mario

I found the following information, maybe it helps:

    And this is my laptop:

    Hello

The card says 8 GB maximum in two slots this means that you can use only 4 + 4 GB. If you have 6 GB, you will need to buy 1 stick of 4 GB and use existing key to 2 GB. CPU - Z shows you all the information you need: brand, RAM card...

  • Increase the RAM, less corrupt files?

    Hello

In order to reduce the damaged or corrupt files, you recommend to increase the RAM to reduce these events? I m using a computer with Win10, Intel I5, 8 GB of RAM and use server space to store my files.

    Thank you

You don't want to hear this, but the upgrade of Windows 7 is hardly a great way to go. I back up all data, perform a reset of the entire system and then reinstall your applications again.

Yes, there are; You can buy a kit to Oracle memory expansion which gives you a total of 144 GB of RAM per server database. With the upgrade, RAM turns at a slower speed, however: 800 MHz instead of 1333 MHz.
