Cannot install HP Deskjet 6988

I just bought the thing and when I put the CD to install the software it gets to the point where it looks for updates, and then it says that the plugin Installation of HP must be closed. What I am doing wrong?

Check if you have Internet Explorer version 8. If you do, then uninstall it and try the install again.

  • Cannot install HP Deskjet 3050 a using USB or wireless.

I tried to install a printer HP Deskjet 3050 a on my computer recently.

After inserting the CD her usually install page appears. When I choose to install the printer through the USB port, the program continues normally until it beginning to insert the USB cable.

Having said the computer software does not meet attaching me the USB cable, just on the same window.

When you try to install the computer over the network, it starts to check the network environment and will then pass the same window as before, indicating that I need to insert the USB cable.

My USB ports work correctly, but the computer address to find the printer.

I have a Dell Inspron 530 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

    Hi Silvuss,

I would suspect im a defective USB causes such behavior, such as cable used to direct connect also although it is used to establish the wireless connection.

Please make sure that the USB port was not plugged launcing before installation, enter the control panel > printers and ensure there is no Deskjet 3050 a icon exists. If there is such a, delete it by clicking on the icon, and restart the PC, then try following the installation again.

In addition, make sure that the USB port is not longer than 2 - 3 m long, directly plugged on the ports of the PC and not through USB hub or extension that will reduce its power.

I also suggest that you try another cable and see if that can help you.

A last suggestion, make sure that the CD and Printers lists the exact model as it must contain eighter HP Deskjet 3050 has or J611, make sure that there is no difference that its previous model have a similar name (Deskjet 3050 J610).

    Hope that helps,

  • Cannot connect wireless Deskjet 6988

I have a new HP Pavilion Elite d5100t running Vista Home Premium (64-bit) SP1.  I'm also using Norton Internet Security.  The PC is connected to a, router/ADSL modem Netgear DGN2000 Wrieless - N.  I can not get my DJ6988 to a wireless connection.  First I tried the Secure Easy Setup with WPS buttons, but it does not work.  The router has indicated that no device was found and kept flashing the led on the printer wireless and network light never came.  I had the same result, even with Norton firewall disabled.

Then I tried the instructions in the guide of the network for the configuration of the printer for a software firewall.  I've disabled the firewall and connected the printer with the Ethernet cable connected to the printer EWS.  I gave the printer static IP address and then the value as the intellectual property as a trust in the firewall site.  I then started the installation of printer software.  The facility found the wired connection and I followed the instructions to establish a wireless connection.  After removing the cable, Setup finds the printer wireless and finished with all what it seems to be ok.  However, a test page does not print and the light of network on the printer never stopped flashing.

I went in the printer properties in Control Panel and manually entered the IP address and that did not help.  Also, I went into the router and reserved IP address using the MAC and host name in the report to the printer.  That does not help either.  I don't know what else to do.

I solved my problem.  It was my fault that I have followed the instructions in the manual of the printer and not the manual of the router.  What I've done I hit the button on my router setup and then click the printer button.  I knew not who hits the button on the router generates a new SSID (why, I don't know).  The right way to do it for my Netgear router is to connect to the router (in Internet Explorer) and run the installer in this way.  When do so through the connection of the router it keeps the network settings.  My printer works fine wirelessly now.

  • install HP DeskJet 600 in Windows Vista - cannot print

original title: install HP DeskJet 600 in Windows Vista

I have an old (1995) HP DeskJet 600 c which works very well on my old desktop computer. I bought a USB adapter cable, to replace my old printer cable. I am trying to connect this printer to my new laptop and after that I installed the printer (with success, so he says) I click on "Print a Test Page" and I get an error message printing. • DeskJet 6988 and Qwest Actiontec PK5000

Somebody has experience of print setting wireless with the above combination?

I tried to install the printer several times using the supplied software.

I followed all the instructions of the special instruction provided by HP to http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01812372sheet.

Each time, Setup has found the printer, he correctly identifies, moves a window saying she's trying to set up the printer for wireless communication, and then a box saying "Cannot finish installation".

What should I do to make this work?

We will install the printer manually.  Using a LAN cable, temporarily connect your Deskjet 6988 to your wireless router.  Print the network configuration page (press the checkmark on the front of the printer) and note the IP address assigned to your printer.

Open web page internal printer by accessing its IP address.  Select the network tab, and then select Wireless (802.11).  Now press start the wizard to launch the wireless configuration wizard.

After that the printer is connected to the wireless network, unplug the LAN cable, print the network configuration page and verify that you can access the wireless printer's internal web page.

Now we will install the printer driver manually.  Here are the instructions for installation for Vista:

    1. make sure the printer is on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by accessing its IP address before continuing.

    2. click on > start > Control Panel > printers.
    3. click on add a printer
    4. Select local printer
    5. Select create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next.
    6. under device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under the name of host or IP address, enter the host name of the printer (found on the network printer configuration report the generated above). Click Next.

If you get a message about required additional Port information, then the printer is not found using the host name. You can go back and start over or using the IP address of the printer instead of the host name.

    7. Select Hewlett-Packard in the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.

If your printer model is not in the list, then select disk provided, browse the CD that came with your HP printer and select the first file begins with hp and ending with INF. click Open, then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.

    8. If prompted, use the driver that is currently installed.
    9. He will ask the name of the printer - enter a new name or use the one existing. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. we may ask you to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. the printing area of Test Page is displayed. Go ahead and print it out.
    12. click on finish.

    This should be it.

  • DeskJet 6988 router replacement

Replacement of very old router in the network had Deskjet 6988 connected wireless (this printer is 2 years old).  No problem getting network.  But the printer not so easy!  The 6988 isn't fantaisis assistants welcome back, etc., the printer menus, etc.  Just the little icon that shows the network connection, small icon that shows wireless.  Following the instructions of router replacement involves the use of ethernet cables to connect first, and then deleting.

Following this several times - the icons to see the beautiful fixed light as it is connected - but it's not print, get the message "print spooler is unable to connect to your printer.  Have you tried disabling firewall during installation, different security settings, it can not yet get up.  Office is littered with typescripts printing of the etc network parameters that show the wireless is connected.

I think it should also appear in ads of router devices - but I don't think that. (Cannot actually managed to print with the Ethernet that connection.)  I kind of remember a similar hard time with her initially, but then it was under warranty.

Here is the link to the manual page.  See the Networking Guide.

I recommend resetting the default printer (page 10), then follow the instructions to install new printer.

  • HP Deskjet 6988: The problem is how to get to 'double-sided automatically' with 10 WIN my HP Deskjet 6988 printer

My Deskjet 6988 has been printing double-sided automatically (I have the setting of appropriate material) for the last 3 years. However, when I upgraded to Windows 10, who have enough work. No pilot is available online (HP site) and the disc that came with my printer does not work with Windows 10. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Really, I love my printer and do not think I should buy a new printer for automatic two-sided printing.

On Windows systems, the function "automatic detection" used by some drivers on the install (or update) does not always; make sure the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that a single is present):

    • For the instance of the printer in question, bring up the printer properties dialogue.
    • Select the device settings tab.
    • Make sure the duplex unit is set to installed and not installed.

You will probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the settings of the device.

If your model does not have a duplex unit equipped (i.e. not one of the models with a suffix "d"), then you can't do automatic duplexing. You can do manual duplex printing (assuming that the printer driver supports this).

  • DeskJet 6988: prints without custom border deskjet 6988

I want to make a card (5 x 7) which means I have to print 10 x 7. I tried to do a custom size by clicking on "without borders"but I still have the white border.» The option without borders works with no custom sizes?

    Hi @mhm45,

Can I have found some information about you on your Deskjet 6988 borderless printing options.

Please NOTE: With all models, print custom page sizes are n ot guaranteed from Windows, it usually ends up being a limitation of the operating system presets. All these settings are error.

I think you're right, it should use an option without border defined by the operating system - but you can review the information provided in the user guide for printing without margins to see if you missed something. PG 59-61.

    This information has been in the User Guide for the Deskjet 6988;

    Print borderless photos

Use printing without margins to print to the edges of some types of paper and printing on a variety of paper-paper photo sizes 3 x 5 inches to a custom photo size 210 x 594 mm (8.5 "x 23.4").

    Guidelines

    ● For high quality results, use a print cartridge photo in combination with the print cartridge three colors.

    ● do not print photos without a border in ink-backup mode. Always have two ink cartridges installed in the printer.

    ● Open the file in a program such as Adobe Photoshop or HP Photosmart software and affect the size of the photo. Make sure that the size matches that of the paper on which you want to print the photo.

    ● If you have installed the HP Photosmart software, you can use it to assemble panoramic digital photos before printing.

    ● For maximum strength, use HP Premium Photo paper.

    ● Check that the photo paper you are using is flat. For more information about the prevention of photo paper to curl, see photo paper storage instructions.

    ● Do not exceed the capacity of the tray in: 25 sheets of photo paper.

    Prepare to print

To print a single small photo, use the photo/envelope feeder.

To print several photos or more, follow these steps:

    1. check that the printer is turned on.

    2. for small photos, remove the output tray. For large photos, lift the sliding top. Remove all paper from the tray in. 3. drag the width of the paper all the way to the left guide and then pull out the paper length guide.

    4. check that the photo paper is flat.

    5. place the photo paper in the tray, with the side to be printed on the bottom. If you use paper photo with a detachable tab, check that the tab is so opposite of the printer.

    6. slide the paper guides against the paper.

Note: Some formats of panoramic paper may extend beyond the edge of the In tray.

    7. for small photos, replace the output tray. For large photos, lower the output tray.

    Print

Note: If the software includes a photo printing feature, follow the instructions that are provided with the software. Otherwise, follow these instructions.

    1. open the photo in an application that allows you to edit, such as the HP Photosmart or Adobe Photoshop software.

    2. open the printer properties dialog box.

    3. click on the shortcuts tab print Chapter 5 60 HP Deskjet 6980 series

    4. in what you want to do? drop-down list, click borderless Photo printing, and then select the following options:-print quality: normal or best. Note for maximum dpi quality, go to the paper/quality tab and then click Maximum dpi in the drop-down list print quality. -Paper Type: A picture appropriate paper type - size of paper: a paper size appropriate photo without margin - Orientation: Portrait or landscape

    5. set the HP Real Life technologies.

    6. click OK to print the photo. If you have printed on paper with a detachable tab, remove the tab to make the document completely without borders.

Please let me know if any of these steps has resolved your problem, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hear from you!

    Thank you

  • Deskjet 6988 printer to wireless network (laptop Envy w / Windows 8.1)

I got my printer HP Deskjet 6988 years and still it was connected to my desktop via a USB 2.0 cable. I bought a laptop HP Envy with Windows 8.1 and want to connect the printer through my servant/Belkin router network, as the USB 2.0 cable provided with the printer does not seem to work in the USB ports of the desire for direct printing. The software disk did not work in the laptop, so I downloaded the software and utility software (printing and scanning) to 8.1 on the HP site.

I ran the download, the installation wizard has started, said "the wizard will connect to the internet and help install the best software available for your printer." I clicked on next, and opens a window "Device discovery" and then an another "recovering the device" then... nothing.  The wizard window closes. My installation manual is useless. It tells me to use the wizard on the software disk that does not work on my laptop (and is obsolete and for the operating system still wrong, because it was for my office, which took place on VIsta.)

I somehow managed to get the printer installed on the laptop - I can see it under the available printers.  And if I have an ethernet cable connected directly from the printer to my router, it will print. But if I unplug the ethernet cable, it will not print. I can't keep the ethernet cable is connected for printing, because the router is in my living room, behind the TV and my office is on the floor. I prefer not to keep my printer on the floor of the living room by our TV, so I really need to work wireless!

My problem is how to make the printer added to my network (Belkin router) servant. The wireless router is all set up and functional - I use actually it from now to access the internet and to post this message.

So, my printer is installed on my laptop. The driver is the most recent, intalled today HP.com and I don't have a software disc to use for a Setup Wizard.

What are the next steps to connect my printer on the network, so I can print wireless? If all goes well, I gave enough information. I have read all sections of the HP.com customer help on service and none of them seem to tell me what to do.

    Thank you!

By a lot of trial and error, I actually thought about it myself. I did a lot of jumping around, so I hope that I can remember what I did:

    (1) install the printer driver using the diskette or download.

    (2) connect the printer to the router by an ethernet cable, which looks like a big phone cord (no need to connect the printer to your laptop).
    3) implement the system of the laptop 'search' on your laptop and in search type "Network" and then click on the 'Network' link to open it.

    (4) you should see the icon for the printer on your computers and other devices already present on the network.

    (5) double click/tap on the icon of the printer and it will open 'web page' the printer in your browser.

    (6) click / tap the 'Network' tab near the top of the scren.

    (7) in the left sidebar, under 'Connections', click 'Wireless' to open it.

    (8) start and use the wizard to enter your router information. (You must specify the printer a different name here, so you can distinguish it from all other printers on your laptop.) For example, I named mine "Deskjet" 6988 Network)

    (9) unplug the power cord of the printer ethernet.

    (10) If your wireless printer does not appear in the list of printers when you go to print something, you'll need to add:

    11) open looking for new portable computer system and type "Devices and printers" and click / tap on the link.

    12) click on the link "Add a printer" upward. The computer will search for printers and the new network printer should appear in the list (hint: he wil have an IP address in the 'Address' column rather than a file.)

    (13) add the network printer and run the test to ensure that it works. Make your default printer and may delete all other 6988 printers listed if you want to.

    (14) you should now see your network printer in the printer list when you go to print something.

I hope this helps someone else someday!

  • Test page for the wireless ad-hoc print only Deskjet 6988

We have 3 os x 10.5.6 cell phones and a computer running windows XP. I got an ad-hoc wireless network set up with a Deskjet 6988 and a router from Dell. I was starting to have problems with the router, so I bought an AirPort Express. After you configure the AirPort Express, everything was fine except that I couldn't print. After a lot of efforts, including the setting of each computer to the printer cable ethernet and update the software and try something different by connecting a USB cable from the printer to the airport. When this does not work, I went back to an ad hoc network. I eventually so I can print wireless from a test page, but that's all. For everything else... emails, word documents, etc., I get an error message. The message flashes too fast so I can't read it. Any thoughts?

    Bruce,

You should be able to add the printer without having to reinstall the SW.

Try to remove the 6988 since the printing section printer and faxes in the folder System Preferences, then add new.  If you have recently updated your Mac SW, 6988 driver should be part of Mac OS and in this case, the printer driver is automatically installed.

    Best regards / Jim B
