Cannot install printer USB on Satellite L100-171 - specified port is unknown

I can't install a USB printer on my laptop. I tried the Lexmark and HP printers, but after that they look as if they were installed OK, I get a dialog box indicating that "the specified port is unknown.

I tried to just about everything, including the re - install USBPRINT. SYS and USBSCAN. SYS, but still won't work.

I am running Windows XP with SP2.

Could someone help?

Thank you

Can I use the USB ports with some other external devices? Have you noticed any problem in Device Manager?

Thanks for your help. I am not a comp read and write to do all this.  here goes

No printer listed. I deleted all.no ports usbxxx or dot4xxx. several others listed.

Middle neck is the same. Intel

the RT is Windows 2000 or xp.

    It's what I expected.

Usbprint.sys figure 54 times more often in documents and settings. also in nt service pack driver PK. Ditto for usbmon.dll.

    This is not the case.

    1. open Windows Explorer and type C:\Windows\system32 into the address bar.
    2. find usbmon.dll
    3. right click on this file. Select properties, and then click the Version tab. Is - this version 5.1.2600.5512?  If not, is what version?
    4. now, go to the C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder
    5. what version is the usbprint.sys file?

You have a copy of each file in C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386?  If so, what are the versions of these files?

If the usbprint.sys and usbmon.dll in C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 files are identical (or older) versions that the corresponding files in C:\Windows\system32 and C:\Windows\system32\drivers, copy the C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 files into their appropriate folders.  Then restart.

    Hi jessheffernan2003,

This problem occurs because Windows Vista does not support the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers. Windows Vista only supports installing user mode printer drivers.

To work around this problem, try to get and install a printer driver as a user on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. If you can not get the particular user mode printer driver, try to get a driver printer in user mode compatible with the kernel mode printer driver which is hosted on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. To get a printer driver updated for the print device, contact the manufacturer of the printer.

    Hello

    Please write to us.

The question you are faced to could be due to incorrect settings of the printer.

To better understand the issue, I want to know:

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?
    2. Have you installed the printer software on the other computer via the wireless connection/USB port?

Please, try the following steps and check if that helps.

    1. Press the Windows key + R key, type control, and then click Ok.
    2. In all the elements of the Control Panel, click on devices and printers.
    3. Then double click on Add a printer , and then choose Add a network, wireless or Brother MFC 9130cw printer.

Feel free to write us again if you have other queries, comments or suggestions using your Windows.

  • To install Windows 7 on Satellite L100-179

    Hello

New to this site, I have a Satellite L100-179 running on XP Professional, originally from my laptop with XP Home and I have product for this recovery.

I want to install Windows 7 and also to clean my laptop.
So I have to first product recovery I guess xp family is on this point, to remove all waste from portable and then install windows 7?
Windows 7 will work ok, or I lose my money?
    Laptop a 40 GB hard drive, 1.7 GHz, 1 MB of memory, Intel (R) Celeron (R) m

    Thanks for any help

    > take off so just to confirm that I had firstley of Windows XP Professional and install original Windows XP Home Edition could came with the laptop?

Why you want to reinstall Win XP if you want to install Win 7?
The configuration of installation of Win 7 will format the HARD drive or the partition too much and it will remove also all the waste
Just start with a clean installation of Windows 7 that of pretty good.

    > However someone said I could put 2 x 2 GB memory is that correct that I thought I could go only up to 2 GB in TOTAL.
That s dependent on the chipset and BIOS if the two parties would be supports 4 GB of RAM then you could use 2 x 2 GB of RAM, but in general, you should find an info in your user manual on the RAM upgrade and what value RAM is possible

But in my opinion, only 2 GB of RAM is possible

  • Cannot install driver LAN on Satellite M100-221

    I have reinstalled the OS on my Satellite M100 - 221 PSMA0E.

HE has already used Windows XP Home Edition, and now I have installed Windows XP Professional SP2. I have an error in my DEVICE MANAGER with ethernet, mass storage controller, SM bus controller controller. But let's for ETHERNET CONTROLLER.
I have download the real LAN driver on the official website of Toshiba, and whenever I try to install it I get the message "the specified location contains no information about your hardware.
In the wizard NETWORK UPADATE I have same option to choose the Realtek driver, only Intel and a few others. My network card was working very well on XP Home edition preinstalled. What am I, I guess what to do? Help, please!

    Hello

I guess you should try drivers intel instead of the realtek because drivers that your computer was shipped with a chipset Intel LAN.
So, please visit the website of intel (www.intel.com) and download the latest drivers LAN from their homepage.

It should work and you should soon have a working ethernet connection.

    Hey @brommmmm,

One thing we know for sure is that your computer and the printer doesn't seem to like. I think that there are problems with your registry that are causing all these different errors, especially since the error log for the program installation continues to point to the registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\Install\ {BCDD692B-17 2D-440-9A1B-501C71D72CC8} for permissions problems. I have a little more suggestions to solve these problems in System.

Step 1: Uninstall your printer software and drivers

Step 2: Run the CCleaner on your computer to fix registry issues:

    CCleaner

Step 3: Unlock hidden Admin account:

    1. Open the display Start again by clicking the Windows start at the bottom of your computer screen icon or by selecting the Windows button in the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl key.
    2. Once the splash screen opens, type command prompt
    3. Once the result of the search for the command prompt appears, do a right click on it and "run as administrator"
    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / Active: Yes and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer
    6. When your computer turns back on, you should be able to log in to the new administrator account that appears. This account will not have a password on it.
    7. If your computer will automatically connect to your normal spending users user account and log on to the administrator account.

    Step 4: Install printer:

    1. Once you are logged into the new account administrator download and run the installation of your printer: HP Deskjet F2400 all-in-One series Full Feature Software and Driver
    2. Start the installation of your printer.
    3. Once the printer installs successfully log on the administrator account and log in to your normal user account. The printer should now be installed on your normal user account.

Step 5: Disable the hidden Admin account:

    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / active: No. and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer

Please respond and let me know if everything works now. Fingers crossed!

If this isn't a driver problem there is a problem of setting or material and you

As Canon OEM is responsible for the good operation of the printer and their
