Cannot install Windows 8 with the new drive, because the key will not

I just rebuilt a 64-bit pc. I had windows 7 on it and decided to do a clean install of windows 8. Bought a version OEM from Amazon yesterday. Arrived today and the disc was in double sealed package of Microsoft Corporation.  The package comes with the key in very small print on the back that I had to read with a magnifying glass. This key is not accepted during the installation of the software. I checked that it was OK and I tried several times but the key has not been accepted. What should I do now?

Hello

I assume you are using the disk that came with the OEM key to install your system? If you are then the only people who can help you is the team of Microsoft License, you can contact them here:

  • I need to change the drive to a new drive letter, but XP will not let me because he thinks that the letter is in use.

Quick question: I need to change the drive to a new drive letter, but XP will not let me because he thinks that the letter is in use, when it is not.

The question for a long time: I've updated two disks in my computer from 1 TB to 2 TB. They were e and K:. The KC: drive is used as a backup of data on E: drive.

I copied all the data on the old drive E: to the new, but when I put the new drive in place of the old, XP wouldn't let me assign the E: drive letter. It is ironic that several times, I see the warning that if you change a drive letter, some programs may not work - so of course that Microsoft is aware of this problem - however, it is annoying when you NEED to change a drive letter to OPERATE programs, but Windows won't let you. Sometimes, trying to protect users from doing stupid things prevents them from making things work...

Anyway, after some research, I discovered that if I put the drive E: OLD and "remove" the drive of her letter, then the letter E: becomes available again. It did not work, and my computer is now partially satisfied with his new E: drive. However, the same trick with the new drive K: does NOT work.

I removed the letter 'k': the old K: drive, but when I install a new one, it won't let me change it. It happens to be stuck at 'l': it's no use to me because backup programs are ready to use the K:\ path.

There is that no "K:" drive in my computer and I deleted the letter k: the old disk. How do I FORCE XP to designate the new drive K: so that my backup program can work again?

    Thank you.

Did you try to start your computer in Mode without fail (repeatedly, key to tap the F8 as your computer starts) and then try to re-assignment of drive letters?
I think that some programs on your machine may be playing with your drive letters.  Boot safe mode will allow Windows to operate with a minimum of processes that are running and you should be able to change drive letters in these conditions.

The hard drive on my HP desktop computer failed and died.  I don't have a recovery disk.  Can I reinstall windows XP on a new drive as Windows XP product key is located on the cover of PC.  If so, how?  Any suggestion please!

With the procuct only key?  No, you cannot, the product key is just a combination of 25 alphanumeric characters, where the installation files will come from?   You will need to contact HP for a recovery disc.

  • Cannot install windows XP it said hard drives are not connected & windows can not find the hard drives

I got an asus computer notebook windows vista, upgrade from vista to windows 7, now I'm not able to do a clean install of windows xp, when I try to install XP, it says that hard drives are not connected & windows cannot find not the hard drives, so once again installed windows 7, is there a way to overcome this problem Why do I get the message windows xp does not detect hard drives? I even formatted the hard drive & tried to install Xp, but still, I get the same message.

    The answers will be appreciated...

    Thank you

Because the Windows XP installation CD does not have the necessary disk controller drivers.  You will need a floppy drive to provide the drivers of controller for the installation program, or you will need to burn a CD of Windows XP with the controller drivers slipstreamed into the installation.  A CD of Windows XP with SP2 included may have the necessary drivers.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on the replacement hard drive

I got the replacement from Dell hard drive which he said would come with Windows 8 and pre-installed drivers. Well, I installed the hard drive and he said no. OS can be found. I didn't have a chance to make my own backup discs, but Dell sent a CD Windows 8 recovery media with the laptop and now with the replacement hard drive.

When you try to install Windows 8 on the new hard drive, I get to the part where it tells me to choose a partition to install Windows 8 on and none of them will not let me. There are 5 to choose from and I don't know what to do to get past this. The largest partition either 5A about 934 GB of space left out of 1 TB, but as I said I can't choose it or one of the other ones for the installation.

You just have to click on next, in any case, despite the message?  Otherwise:

Start on the DVD of Windows 8, instead of install now, click repair your computer, Advanced Options, invites ... when it opens, type the following:

    DiskPart
    Select disk 0
    clean

    Then, try to install.

The above will remove all the data partition and disk, allowing you to do a clean install on an empty drive (these scores are not required, and Windows will create its own partitions (two) he needs to install and run).

    Hello

Did you install the SATA drivers first?
You need this driver to recognize the HARD drive!

You must download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. You should find it on the page of the Toshiba driver or the Intel Web site.

You must perform the installation of an external USB FDD drive using the F6 key during the installation of Win XP.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 on the computer

Hi my name is Mauricio Osorio, recently, I tried to install Windows 7 on my computer, but it does not work, then I tried to re - install my Windows 8.1 license, but my computer has two drives, all first it's a ssd (Solid disc) and the other is sata, the most common of the disc type. My problem is: I don't know how to use this because it is so small (25 GB) ssd drive, but it is really fast, I tried to install Windows on it, but is so small and it does not work. What should I do?

If as you indicate the SSD is small it almost certainly was not used as a disk operating system, but as a buffer high speed for the main SATA drive.

The factory restore should recover the disks in the correct way before you tried to install Windows 7, you have created the.

If you want to set this function yourself then how exactly depends on the chipset. With the driver Intel Smart Response Technology, you will need to install Windows on the SATA drive then in the driver control panel define the SSD as its buffer.

  • Portege M400 - cannot install Windows XP on the new HARD drive

    Hello here is my problem,

I bought an older Portegre M400 E, without a HARD drive. So I buy a new Samsung 400 GB. I looked in the Bios (ACPI BIOS Version 3.40) and it is ok. He shows me the HARD drive with built in Assign LD - 0 status ONLINE, 400 GB size so it seems to be nice. Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0
So, I want to boot from the Windows XP CD, not recovering my own.

Windows open to the top and after a short period, the installation ends with the message that it is not any HARD drive. This I try sometimes :-( Hope someone can help me.
Do not forget that I didn't have any HARD disk with the dates of the laptop.

    Thank you Carsten

    > Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0

I don't know much about your model, but I think that something wrong with the raid in the Bios settings. What other options are available in the Bios for the State of the hard drive? I found the RAID driver on the Toshiba driver page. It is possible, that you can integrate in with a program called nlite Windows installation disc or install Windows as in compatibility mode, and install the Raid driver. then

  • Cannot install Windows XP on the Qosmio F50-108

I got the Qosmio F50-108 with Vista.

I dislike Vista so I tried to install XP.
Unfrtunatelly, I get a BSOD every time XP takes over for the first time (startup). Usually, when there is a problem of sata, XP tells you while there's no HARD drive, but I do not get this message, I get a BSOD.
I don't know why there is no support for XP in fact I know that Microsoft paid toshiba to stop supporting Windows XP.

Is the thing that drives me crazy, YOU CAN INSTALL WIN XP ON EVERY APPLE COMPUTER MACINTOSH, but you can't do it with a Toshiba.

I know that there is a possibility, I know that an update of the bios might help, but toshiba does not.
Dear Sirs to Toshiba, I know you know what I have to do in order to get XP running on a Toshiba computer, so please, help me.

    Hi guys

You can install XP on each laptop Toshiba. But you knew how! : D

Your Windows XP CD must contain the SP2. This is important because the new laptops no matter which manufacturer need SP2 patches due to some hardware compatibility issues!
Without the SP2, you will receive a BSOD!

Then, the new notebooks support SATA drives hard and new SATA controllers!
Windows XP and Vista operating systems do not contain the SATA drivers, and therefore you must include first before running the installer of the OS.
Or you can disable the SATA in the BIOS. You will need to switch from AHCI to compatibility mode.

Then, you must install the XP window successfully.

So finally, I must say that I really don't understand these comments like this:
    > Is the thing that drives me crazy, YOU CAN INSTALL WIN XP ON EVERY APPLE COMPUTER MACINTOSH, but you can't do it with a Toshiba.
OK, I see you're frustrated because you cannot install the operating system, but he must know that this is not a problem of laptop, but it is only a case or a knowledge!
So maybe you should learn more about new technologies and you'll know how things are working. ;)

To all here-> greetings & peace;)

  • Envy 13 d001ne: cannot install Windows 10 from usb flash drive

    Summary of the problem:

The laptop SSD has a GPT format. I am trying to insall a Windows 10 ISO I have on it from a flash drive. Formatting a usb startup as TPG manually or using Rufus drive will not make the unit visible non-traditional mode. Formatting the drive in the MBR on the other hand I cannot install on a GPT disk.

I've tried everything. I disabled and enabled secure boot. I updated the BIOS to the latest revision F.35.

    What's wrong?

The ISO had problems with it. I used another and then I could install Linux Mint and Windows without any problem.

    I solved my problem here.

  • Cannot install Windows XP after the purchase of disk

You should really start a new thread on this question of yours.  I'll send a message to the moderator to separate this question from this old thread and create a new one for you.

In any case, if you have installed vista, xp will not be able to install automatically. It's because you try to downgrade your computer.

However, if the computer already had xp on the computer, and then you could upgrade to vista automatically.

You'd have to do is to format the hard disk in the first place, until xp can be reinstalled.

But there may be another problem for you at this time.

You see, if you have a computer that has been designed to use vista then xp is maybe not able to work on this computer.   You will have to go place of origin of the computer and see if your machine has hardware drivers that can be used by xp.  In others, you should check if there are drivers xp for your computer model.

If this is not the case, then it means that your computer cannot start xp, even if you reformat the hard drive and install a new copy of xp on it.

What is the brand and model of your computer?

  • Cannot install windows 7-error: dvd/cd driver missing

Try to install Windows 7 on a different SSD, but get an error indicating that the missing required cd/dvd driver.  How Windows load into memory from a cd/dvd that windows 7 says there is no driver missing?  This is the same installation disc that I used on a previous SSD without problem.  I have 2 other unused installation floppies, and each returns the error message.  This problem arose when an attempt to use System Restore Image I had done just on an external SSD and a drive hard usb.  The error I had to try to use one of them was that the Image was made in EFI and the computer seeks to restore in BIOS. It's the same machine.  Yes, disk management displays the UEFI 100 MB system partition.  The motherboard is an Asus F2A85 - V Pro.  List Disk running installation diisk sees only the cd/dvd and the drive hard usb but not the SATA drives.  When you normally use that List Disk sees everything.  The UEFI bios sees all readers, when you use the system installation disk.  I used a system repair disc made from the same computer at the same time as the picture of the system and used to start and got a system repair options is not compatible with this version of windows.  The windows version is 6.1.7601 sp 1 build 7601.  Any ideas?

    Hello

    Thank you for your response.

There are two modes of starting particularly machine-> BIOS & EFI. BIOS is the general start mechanism found in most machines. Some of the machines also support EFI boot mechanism with BIOS

Either the BIOS or EFI is set as the default in your machine - Please check start the installation system which

    one is active by default.

If the EFI operating system is installed, it will create an EFI system partition in your machine. Installation of BIOS has no EFI partition.

Warning in the BIOS: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to post in the case where you are facing other problems with Windows, we will be happy to help you.
