cannot migrate emails from thunderbird on my new computer.

I'm moving my thunderbird on my computer windows 7 on my new computer windows 8.1. I backed up my old profile on my old computer and put it on a flash drive. Then, I downloaded thunderbird on my new windows computer. It does not recognize my old information and I can't figure out how to import all my mails (over 7,000) to my new computer. I tried several things, including the displacement of the profile in the new profile, but no messages appear on my new computer. I could really use some help on this one. I got all my imported address books, but really need help for all my emails and folder in my new Thunderbird.

  • moving data from Thunderbird to a new computer did not work - help, please!

I - I hope! -followed all instructions Support of Thunderbird on moving a profile from one computer to another with a different OS (save a copy of the profile of the first computer file, download and install TB on the new computer, find the 'Profile' folder and then either paste the contents of the old profile file in the new profile file [thus overwrite the latter]) then open TB... but it didn't work.

I then tried the same thing, but with a slightly different method: I copied the name of the new profile file, he has given the profile of the old computer file, then renamed the new file profile and pasted the old profile file - now with the new designation - in the new directory... which also did not work.

I spent a few hours trying to get this to work and am almost to the point of giving up on tuberculosis as an e-mail.

    Any help would be welcome!

    Hi, Matt;

Thank you for your continued support - I appreciate it!

Yesterday, I downloaded the command-line tool dbx to eml unless you had kindly recommended (at http://code.google.com/p/undbx/ ), and, as I had supposed, its function is to do what OE itself can only do by email - that is, convert a .dbx .eml format - but do it by folder, records forever, which is much more elegant.

The tool dbx to eml was very easy to download and use, and I could ask him to convert all my files at once (which is equivalent to more than 50 records and hundreds of emails). He did a great job, and I was able to identify the location of the output directory that results anywhere I wanted.

Because the tool dbx to eml records records converted to any specified location, one can then import them into Thunderbird Thunderbird either on the same or another computer.

I wanted to spend all my email OE to a new computer (which involves a passage from XP to Windows 7), and, in my case, it was easy to do because I have two computers connected by a network (intranet) data drives: after you convert all the OE dbx eml files, I went to my new computer to Thunderbird instance and , using the add-on for Thunderbird Import-ExportTools (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/), I simply imported saved eml files, one at a time. It has worked flawlessly.

In a situation in which two computers were not connected by a network, we could easily save the eml on a USB output directory and have computer of the new Thunderbird import eml from this location.

I would also add that this dbx to eml command-line tool is supposed to also function as a current backup utility: it begs for find and convert new files later in OE, and it only will not do, but is also their corresponding folders in the original output folder, if they exist from a previous operation.

I still have to import all my newly created on my Windows 7 Thunderbird eml files, but - so far - it seems like it should work smoothly.

Based on the different methods I did research - and the few that I actually tried - has my reviews, so far, is that using the tool of command line without dbx-to-eml, at http://code.google.com/p/undbx/ , is the way simpler and more reliable to move files from email Outlook Express - within their corresponding e-mail folders - to Thunderbird , either the same or different computers.

It would be nice if Mozilla could try this method for themselves, and - if they are to find it as infallible, as I - promote this as one of the first methods to use to move electronic mail Outlook Express to Thunderbird. It others will save a lot of time and frustration.

Matt - your kind and generous support made it happen: thanks!

  • I tried several times to move email from old Win7 on new computer Win8.1 and fail every time.

I followed the instructions to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_profile-location-summary several times, all the data user of Thunderbird removed and reinstalled Thunderbird.

    I have it solved!

By following the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb, I open Thunderbird and created a new profile. Open Thunderbird, I followed the guests to setup e-mail account to connect to my email server. It would not establish POP3 I want, but has implemented IMAP.

The secret was to create the e-mail account first, and then search for the profile folder in Thunderbird instead of using Windows Explorer. There was a lot of folders and files in the folder of the selected profile, and copy them to the backup brought all my information in Thunderbird.

  • Cannot send emails from marroitt Hotels with outlook

Cannot send emails from marroitt Hotels with outlook, but can receive e-mail?

It depends on your ISP Internet and email.  If you are not connected to their system, you cannot send emails (to prevent others from spamming).  Many vendors have a port special number you can use and that, coupled with authentication, you can send them somewhere else until you are connected through their system.  Then, contact your Internet provider or visit their Web site, which should have the correct settings to use to send to other locations.  During this time, see if you can use webmail via the browser on your access provider's website to send messages.

  • Having multiple computers using the server POPS via Thunderbird. A new computer has IMAP server and cannot send or receive emails via Thunderbird. Help

With the help of Mozilla Thunderbird - multiple computers use the POP server, but a new computer uses the IMAP server. Mail or back does not work
Can we change the IMAP POP server to make it easier. All my other computers POP and mail is perfect.
    What can I do?

First question is your email provider does support IMAP protocol?
If this isn't the case, that is why it does not work.
If they do, IMAP is a protocol much better use to check email from multiple devices.
There are a lot of good tutorials on the differences between POP and IMAP if you can do your own research on this.

You don't change an account from one protocol to another.
You delete the account and add back with the correct protocol.
Thunderbird has a tendency to select IMAP as a default value. You need to stop right there and make the POP changes if that's what you want or need.

  • How to import emails from Thunderbird to Outlook 2007

I've updated to Windows XP using Thunderbird as my email for Windows 7 and Office 2007 client. I can't find out how to import all my emails and contacts from Thunderbird to Outlook.

I've updated to Windows XP using Thunderbird as my email for Windows 7 and Office 2007 client. I can't find out how to import all my emails and contacts from Thunderbird to Outlook.

    With difficulty.
The easiest way (assuming that you have upgraded a machine and not bought a new) is to install Eudora, transfer all your TBird mail to that. Outlook will then be able to import Eudora mail
The address book is a little more difficult. You need to export your address book of TBird in a CSV file, which if you went from the existing machine will mean reinstall TBird to do this. If you find my answer helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful"! Thank you! My Blog

  • Cannot open emails from Outlook Express on Windows 7

Original title: Outlook express on exploere8

I just bought a new computer which has windows 7 and explorer 8 is installed, my old computor was an outlook express program that has lots of emails stored in it. I don't seem to be able to open these emails outlook express doesn't automatically come with explorer8?

Outlook Express is an e-mail Client program.  Internet Explorer is a web browser.  They are completely different animals.

Windows 7 computers lack any e-mail client program (unless the manufacturer of the computer or the seller has installed a). Therefore, you will need to download and install your own choice email client.

Microsoft to promote Windows Live Mail, the free successor to Outlook Express.  You can download the program ofhttp://download.live.com.   WLMail belongs to the series of programs, Windows Live, which includes Windows Live Messenger, etc.. However, you just install the items you need.

At present, there are two versions of WLMail available for download.  The latest stable version of the suite of programs live was "Wave 3"(version number 14.0.8117.0416).  However, you also have the option to install the version 'Wave 4' of the various programs.  I have no experience of the Wave 4 programs (which are beta (or test) releases), so cannot advise.

Once you have installed WLMail, you will need to copy the messages from your old computer to Win XP files in a directory on your new Windows 7 computer.  Then, you will be able to open WLMail and click on file / import - import messages and other data.  With the version of Wave 3, the menu bar (which provides the file / edit / view / go / tools / Actions & help commands) is hidden by default.  To display the menu bar on an ad hoc basis, press Ctrl. To display the menu bar, click Alt and M together. Then, press M (or select "Show menu bar").

You will find further instructions to the http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/importing-your-e-mail-contacts-and-calendar-into-windows-live-mail. However, a Google search led me to www.pcdon.com/080113OutlookExpress-WindowsLiveMail.html, which you can find easier to understand.

To make it easier to get the support of the community of other users like you, you will need to provide more details please. Thank you!

You're on Mac or Windows? What version?

    What version of Thunderbird?

When you say 'cannot send/print"what do you mean? Are there any error messages? The print dialog appears? Nothing shows up in the print queue of the printer? What looks like your preview before printing?

How many messages do you have tried printing from Thunderbird? Is that all the messages that does not print?

You have any problem at all to print other programs, such as your browser, text editor.

Have you tried simple troubleshooting steps, such as restarting your computer or printing from Thunderbird using Thunderbird-safe (NOT Windows safe mode)? If this isn't the case, please try these two steps.
