Cannot move public folders to another location

Original title: I encounter a strange error while moving the public folder?

Hello world!

I encounter a strange error while moving the public folder, although I've done it before without any problem.

Thses files that are located in the Public folder in its original volume:

and as you can see this folder "music" is available in the source "C:\users\public".

That these two folders within the Public folder have been moved to the new location D:\users\public

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, when I moved to: C:\Users\Public via the command prompt and run the Dir command. I noticed this "Music" folder, but it is not "public music. After that I applied the last command, but instead of running this command:

"robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public D:\Users\Public.

I have run this command with the setting 'music' "Public"

"robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public\Music D:\Users\Public.

And the music folder moved:

But I am quite sruprised that in the first time I did that I only work "robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\ D:\Users\PublicPublic .

"In addition, as you can see that there is no ' Document Public" and "Public Desktop" in the output of the command "Dir /" via the command prompt. However, records two moved with the command "" robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public D:\Users\Public "without any problem.

------------------------------------------------------

These steps, I made a request to transfer:

This can be done by a directory connection that can redirect to a new location of the Public folder.

First create a new folder on E:\ and maybe you want to call it Public.

Go to Cmd prompt as administrator.

All copy existing public folders to the new folder created using the command
Robocopy /MIR %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public E:\Public (or any name that you used for public folders on E :)

You need robocopy as it supports the hidden files, etc., especially if you haveRecorded TV public folder.

Once the copy is transferred, you must remove the existing public folder and create an ajunction in his place. To do this, start mode safe mode as an administrator and remove thepubliccontents and folder, and then start theCmd as an administrator command prompt. To remove the Public folder:

rmdir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public

After you have created the new folder location and deleting the existing publicfolder, now is the time to create a directory Junction forpublic folder with the following command:

MKLINK /J %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public E:\Public (or any name you named the folder opublic on E:\)

for example: mklink /d C:\Users\Public E:\Public

Now, all that is intended for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.
I hope this helps.

  • Move public folders to another drive

I have a new computer with a small disk C: (SSD) and a large drive D: (mechanical transmission). I moved (My Documents, my pictures, my music, etc.), document records all users using the Properties > location > move... Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work for public folders. I can still go to Properties > location which displays the same message that "You can change where the files are stored in this folder...". "but the path that is displayed is not editable and it is not a move... button. Does anyone know how to move the public folders?

@Hilmar - all the info that I discovered to date indicate that file Public is not movable. Perhaps, it can be done with a sort of hack to check but if so, I have not found. Instead, I created a new folder in the location I wanted to (in my case, at the disk instead of SSD), manually set the permissions and sharing options and had then my computer users add this folder to their respective libraries. Kind of pain, I know, but it was the only solution that I could find.

move a public folder under proprties, it is a function move address line, but it won't change

    1. you do not move a Public folder. You place what is inside of the Public folder.

    2. why went to properties to move a folder?

Open the Public folder > select the subfolder that you want to move > drag and drop the file to the desired location.

A better way is to use Move To or copy to options in the right click context menu.

Open the Public folder > select the folder that you want to move > right click it > click Copy To > navigate to the folder/location > until it clicks > click Copy > go and make sure if the folder is copied to the new location. If Yes, you can remove the Public folder (if you want).

  • Can I move a snapshot to another location and bring back later?

I have a Windows XP running inside VMware and there are three snapshots and a current running instance. I want snapshots to save disk space, but I want to make in the future. I see four sets of files: x 86-000001-WinXP, WinXP - x 86-000002, WinXP - x 86-000004 WinXP - x 86-s001. According to the time stamp on the files, I can say to those that are correlated with snapshots, and Windows XP - x 86-000002 is the current imagefile in use. There are also a number of WinXP - x 86-Snapshot1/2/4 and the main file of WinXP - x 86. I can't say which is common usage. But I wanted to ask you if I can move some of these files on a backup hard drive, without irreparably disrupt the VMWare image, and then I can move them back in the future when I want to go back to some particular instant. Thank you.

If you don't have enough space so consider installing a larger hard drive or move the entire Virtual Machine to drive with adequate disk space and run it from there.

Having said that, although technically, you have instant disks reside on a different drive then the basic disk you can't separate Instant disks from the disk to basic, in general, use the basic disk itself and then add instant records.  In other words if you separate the discs you then continue to use the virtual machine configured as it is, however, the value of the parameter "parentFileNameHint" in the "disk DescriptorFile" of the first Flash disk must be properly modified to account for the change in location.

Unless you fully understand the interdependence of all the files that make up a virtual machine can be very careful separation files together in one place.

Make sure also that, at a minimum, you have all user data that resides in the Virtual Machine saved before making anything.

  • Move Dir roaming to another location

    Hello

App Data from default Adobe CS6 roaming is on the C drive, while my C drive has limited space and I use the D drive to collect production data. Now CS6 roaming has used my free space on C completely new and I was wondering how I would like to re - locate correctly all directory structure CS6 on my D drive of homelessness.

This isn't on my "scratch disks" in the first, already, they're ok on the D drive.

So far, I've seen http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html where it is indicative of the location of the CS6 files but this isn't a guide of how to reinstall them.

Then there's an interesting thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/5476956#5476956 which talks about the issue, but he does not say how to move the mobile directories.

I thought that can move the structure and by putting a symbolic link there that points to the directory on the other... but do not know if this is advised.

Pls share if you have any ideas or experience.

    Kind regards

  • You can move a project to another location on the same hard drive?

    Hello!

My project files in the htdocs of the Apache Server, however I recently had to install XAMPP and which meant a new copy of Apache placed in a different location on the same hard drive.     I would spend my projects in this same place.   Dreamweaver allows you to do this easily?

It is an ideal location for the test on my Apache server.

I could just move the files, but I don't know how Dreamweaver will react.

    Thanks for all your comments!

    Absolutely,.

Just move them to your regular Windows Explorer or anything on a Mac. Then change your site definition to point to the new location.

  • Remote access to public folders - password

On this HP Pavilion HPE h8-1020 desktop computer, I want to access the public folders to another system that connect wirelessly to the network. However, I would like to restrict access to the only people who have a password. I was able to enter 'Network & sharing Center' in the 'advanced sharing settings' section and deselect the password option, which allows the connection of a computer to another, but would also allow someone on the street to access these "public" folders These records contain information that is not really public. How can I determine the user name and the password to use when I re - select the password option?

I have not implemented 'users' on each machine. Maybe it's the access protected by a key. ???

This issue has been resolved by my realization that the Wi - Fi protected by, only those who have permission can also access these "public" files Since only those who authorize have access to this same address wireless, it is unlikely that others would be able to view these files.

  • 'PC' is not set up to establish a connection on port "file and printer sharing (SMB)" with this computer - I get this after enabling access to public folders and then trying to access (another pc on the network cannot connect to this pc but see).

Can't access: 'Public' and 'Users' in the title:

Please don't give me that: "If you try to connect to another computer, make sure that this computer is on, that you have enabled file and printer sharing on both computers, and file and printer sharing can communicate through your firewall." Because I seek NOT to connect to another computer... I want to just access MY Public folder and the users folder and eventually allow others to access also.

    Hi Katmandu774,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

The Public folder is a convenient way to share files that are stored on your computer. You can share files in this folder with other people using the same computer and with people using other computers on the same network. Any file or folder you put in the folder Public is automatically shared with the people who have access to your Public folder.

If you are not on a domain, you can limit network access to the Public folder so that people with a user account and password for this computer. To do this, turn on sharing protected by password.

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to password protected sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on password protected sharing

    ·         Turn off password protected sharing

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To control the level of access to the Public folder

    1. Open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.
    2. Click the arrow next to public folder sharing, and then click one of the following options:

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open files

    ·         Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can open, change and create files

    ·         Turn off sharing (people logged on to this computer can still access this folder)

    1. Click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Also, make sure you add everyone to the public folder and give the necessary permissions to access it.

  • How can I move the public folders default location to a new drive?

I'll put up a brand new machine with Windows 7 pre-installed and a big 500 GB hard drive.  I partitioned the drive into 2 logical drives C: and E:

Wherever possible I want to store all user data on E: (I know is not possible for all the parameters of the user to move - mores the pity).  I have not yet copied across all the data from my old machine so I just empty folders to play with at the moment.  I moved all the My Documents/pictures/etc files for the e: drive by changing the location in the properties of the folder.

However, I can't do the same with public folders.  If I right click on the folder, click Properties, then location, it's like I can't change C:\Users\Public\... but it does not change

No idea why, or how I can get around this?

This is possible thanks to a Directory junction that can redirect to a new location of the Public folder.

You need robocopy as he takes care of hidden files, etc., especially if you have the recorded TV folder in public folders.

Once the copy is transferred, you must delete the existing public folder and create a junction in his place. To do this, boot into Safe Mode as an administrator and remove the public content and file inviting again by running Cmd as administrator. To remove the Public folder:

    RmDir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public

After creating the new folder location and remove the existing public folder, now is time to create a Directory junction of audiences with the following folders:

Mklink /J %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public                         (or any name you named the folder opublic on E:\)

    for example: mklink /dC:\Users\Public E:\Public

Now, all that is intended for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.
    I hope this helps.

    Hello

Our messaging system is Exchange 2013 and we have three Public folder mailboxes in a database. As we know, unlike earlier versions of Exchange, public folders are as typical of the mailboxes in Exchange 2013, not a separate database. The volume of the DB, that hosts mailboxes PF is running out of disk space, that's why I want to move the mailboxes PF in another database where I have enough disk space. This will create an impact for end users in terms of access, permissions, data loss and it? I do any precautionary measures agreement to move?
