    Tommy,

You've done a good job answering my question.  Somehow, and I don't know how I did it I accidentally erased all the favourites I had accumulated for quite some time.  I have not found these missing Favorites in the trash that is where I would have expected to have. But that's another story and not a good thing.  I have so appreciated your efforts and I hope at some point I can get these favorites - wherever they are now.

It works for the other connections on this machine.  So, with the worries of shrinking to s/o the origin of the problem,

I saved my files and re-created a new account.  The new account works fine, so I deleted the old account.

  • List of copy of the files from Windows Explorer in the form of text in an application...

Windows will always add something, or a menu item to copy a list of files in Windows Explorer in the form of text in an application?  I would like to run a DOS command (dir c: /s > c - example.txt) as I did years ago, but as I'm sure your aware, constantly been availible for years and your virtualization Windows MS-DOS command line is incompatible with my new computer... All solutions would be grately appreciated.

    Thank you
    Dave

    Hi Dave,.

I have good news for you:

There are two ways to do what you want:

The first is the simplest and is already in Windows 7 (and Vista by the way):

    1. highlight one or more files that you want to know the way in Explorer.
    2. press and hold the SHIFT keyand right-click on one of the highlighted files.
    3. when the popup menu appears, click the entry in the path of the copy which appeared as if by magic, because you're now the SHIFT key.

A slightly better method, IMO, but it takes a little extra work is to add an extension to the send menu to allow you to right-click on one or more files and choose send to-> Clipboard (as name).  This somehow me seems more practical, because I'm used to the way in which the rear PowerToys when.  Such an extension, which also adds a nice Panel to help you manage the menu send to, is a neat package small freeware called send to toys, by Gabriele Ponti, which can be downloaded here: http://www.gabrieleponti.com/software/index.html#sendtotoys

A nice feature of the program send to toys, is that you can even have it put quotes around any path to file that contains white space.  Practice indeed!

    I hope this helps!

P.S., A command line similar to BACK tool is still (and always has been) available.  On the start menu, select: Start -> all programs -> Accessories -> command prompt.  Or you can just run: CMD.exe

Then double-click on helpsvc.reg to the desktop, then choose to merge the file with the registry.  Reboot and see if that helps.
  • Cannot open file because Windows needs to know what program created the file

After downloading some files when I try to open the file, I get the message cannot open the file, windows needs to know what program created the file.

    Any suggestions?

Perhaps no program has been assigned to this file format and so you cannot open these files.
I put t know which files you downloaded, but you can choose an application installed that can open these files.

Right click the file and I have to then choose open with.
Then, you could choose the program you want to use.

    Original title: .wmv files

Cannot open the wmv on Windows 8 files.  Not supported?  It is a real job; real lost income.  Why am I being pointed on the app store. There's no solution.  My time is as valuable as the Member States.  I wouldn't have to search the Web for solutions to forced updates.

    Hi Elise,.

    1. are - this you facing problems of playing .wmv files by using a video application?

    2. are you able to play using Windows Media Player or other players?

    3. what exactly happen when you try to play the file?

    4. you receive messages or error codes?

This problem can occur if the file is not supported by the player or because of missing codecs.

If you use video app, then try using Windows Media player and see if you can read the file.

If it points to the app store at the time wherever you play the file, then you may need a supported codec

    Hi Joop,

To avoid file names in ide.properties 'OpenedFilesHistoryItem' lines. It was earlier implementation and now it should be paths to directories only. Of course, there is an old code in some of the file browser dialog boxes. Or there is a problem when migrating preferences between versions. However, the presence of the names of files is not a problem and should not raise an exception.

    In fact the exception

    2013-09-26 14:36:37, 270 [AWT-EventQueue-1] ERROR ControllerApplication - error design SDO!

    java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 7

    at oracle.ide.layout.URL2String.toURL(URL2String.java:103)

is triggered, because DM is trying to create URLS with more than 7 rooms, which is not possible. If any of the paths are not valid.

Solution is to remove all the lines "OpenedFilesHistoryItem". You're going to lose last directories used in the file browser dialog box. Do it when DM is closed.

  • Can we copy the folder and the name of the data file from Windows Explorer and paste as text in Word or Excel?

I have two records with a similar file; some of them are duplicates, and some may have the same name, but contain different data.

I would like to compare files from both folders by name and size of the file.  In this way, I could say if I duplicate files, or files with the same name with different data.

I would copy and paste this information (as text or values) in Word or Excel.  Any way to do it?  Any other suggestions re: comparing these files?

Just take the b out of my order and you will get info from size.

  • Cannot delete files from Windows Media Player library.

    Original title: deleting files problem

I deleted a large number of music of my WMP library & computer files, but they are still listed in WMP. I can't play any of them as they were deleted, and I get a message telling me so when I try! Why are they still displayed in the list and how do I get rid of them? I tried to restart, changing the target folder, etc., without change. I even tried to remove all of the library (but not the computer this time) and they do not always go!

    Hi Jamie,

Welcome to Microsoft Community where you can find all the answers related to Windows.

According to the description provided, looks like you are not able to completely remove the files in Windows Media Player.

I have a couple of steps that should help you to solve this problem.

You can try to clear the database of Windows Media Player and check if it clears the titles and generic icons.

To do this, follow these steps:

    Method 1:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player in the start search box and enter.

    3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Method 2:

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the start search box and enter.

3 select the folder Media Player, and then click delete on the file menu.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Keep us informed on the status of the issue. If you face problems more when working with Windows post on Microsoft Community.

All our PC (Windows 7 64 Pro; AD domain) got the last reader app.

Since then, we are unable to open a PDF from File Explorer if the player is already running.

All our machines experiment the same problem. Can anyone help? Thank you.

No, it wasn't any error message. Just file does not open.

Fortunately I was able to find the fix by myself: uncheck the checkbox in the settings of the security drive (improved)-> enable safe_mode at startup. Once this is done, the PDF files can be opened even if the drive is already managing a PDF document.

    Version is: 15.010.20059.40980 (French)

I was very disappointed not to find any help on this issue in the forums, in Google, and worst of all, no offer support (support same paid) for this kind of problem from Adobe.
