My computer crashed while Lightroom CC is open.  After rebooting my system, I tried to reload of Lightroom, but got an error message "could not open".

My Pictures Catalog, because a previous version is always open."  I can create a new catalog, but I'm going to lose all my development settings and keywords;

about five thousand!  How can I fix it?

Go to your catalog folder. Usually found in images by default. Delete the file ending .lock

Do not touch the catalog file ending .lrcat

I just upgraded to window 7 for windows 10. 6 Lightroom does not start because it cannot open the catalog or one of my backups

Yes, once the user account is the upgrade to windows 10 have permission on the folder of photo issue, which prevents the Lightroom to create the necessary temp file when the catalog is launched.

This is the reason why I asked to copy the catalog file to another location to narrow down the reason for the problem.

  • Cannot open the catalog

I am unable to use Organizer in elements or Prime Minister. An error in says: "cannot open the catalog. An internal program error has occurred. »

I tried to reinstall and update but the problem persists. I use the Version 12 on Windows 8.1.

    Hello again

By trail and error, I found a solution to 99%.

Right-click on the desktop, the icon of elements.

    Select Troubleshoot Compatibility.

    Select troubleshoot program

Select a problem (I used the other)

Select the Version of Windows (Windows 8 for me)

    Select the Test program

If it works, which he did in my case, save the settings.

This seems to have solved my problem, except that I now get an extra screen at the opening of the elements to allow the program to make changes to my computer. I can live with that.

When I get time I will check if there is any Adobe or updates to Windows that will make this unnecessary step.

I hope this helps other people with the same problem.

Thanks for responding and making suggestions.

  • Cannot open the catalog on CD

I need to export a catalog for a college assignment and burn it to CD. The export had a slight hiccup with conflicts in the metadata to dng files 2, but I just ran over the data. The main problem is when I burned the files on a CD and tried to open the catalog on CD, I get the following error:

"lightroom cannot open the catalog named"..." "" located on the DVD RW drive (e) volume because Lightroom can't save the changes to this place.

What I am doing wrong? I use LR3.4 and under Win Vista on my laptop at home. Is this a problem with my pc? Can I use the Mac to College instead? I need to know as soon as the transfer is due May 11, 2012 (on Friday).  Thanks for any input.

A catalog cannot exist on a CD and be used as a catalog must be writable and are not CD. You can copy the catalog from the CD to the computer, that you have the CD to use however.

The best option is to use a flash drive (USB key) for that well that rather than a CD.

  • Cannot open the catalog as it is "invalid".

Tried to open my catalog which I used without problem, and today I get the below error message. There is no file locking. I tried to update my software, I also tried to create an another catalog and import the catalog, nothing helps. It appears that in the catalog, there are zero file size. Help, please!Screen Shot 2016-09-15 at 10.35.46 PM.png

If the file size is zero, it is not a valid catalog, and there is nothing to open.

You must restore the backup catalog file.

  • Used the external drive for catalog/photos for months. Yesterday-> error msg: "LR cannot open the catalog"StanLRCatalogRepaired"on"Seagate Drive - LR Photos"because LR cannot save changes to this place. LR catalogs cannot be opened on removable disks,

Used the external drive for catalog/photos for months. Yesterday-> error msg: "Lightroom can't open the catalog named"StanLRCatalogRepaired"located on the 'Seagate Drive - LR Photos' volume because Lightroom can't save the changes to this place. The first thing to do is to check if somehow the permissions for the drive Seagate or any of its relevant folders/subfolders has changed somehow (an OS update maybe?)

  • 5.7 Lightroom on Windows 7 64 bit home says that it cannot open the catalog because it is not writable or is in use, but it is writable and is not in use.

I just reinstalled and all my Lightroom stuff is in a single folder. So I simply pointed out Lightroom in the folder once it has been reinstalled, but I get this message saying 'Lightroom cannot use the catalog because it is not writable or in-use'.
    Any ideas what is wrong?

Trying to find a file whose name ends with .lock in the same folder as your catalog file. If there is such a file, remove it. Do not remove anything else.

    lrcat. Lock

The first file to indicate that the LR (lrcat) catalog is locked, which means being used by an instance of execution of LR and therefore cannot be changed by another instance of LR, until the first unlocks it for use by others.

    lrcat. Journal

This is the log file of the catalogue. A log file is kind of what you think of the history - all the changes that have occurred since the last time that these changes have been written in the catalogue.

It is a little bare on technical details, but should give you the idea.

A lot of programs that use a database works this way.

  • Cannot open App Catalog and cannot be updated

Hello. I recently bought a used unlocked Palm Pixi more. I am trying to connect to the App catalog, but every time I try and open it it just says: the "action could not be completed. Also, I tried to open the app updates but it keeps just search for updates very much even if it still has v1.4.3. I don't know why this happens... could someone help me?

As I said, this is a pixi plus opportunity. I did a full erase before using it because it would mean that I would need to get a data plan - which I don't have now. But, I guess that if you guys think that the full erase operation would be a good option so I can fix it.

    Altogether.

You don't need to do a full erase but just a partial erasure with active data service to record a new Palm profile at least.

  • Cannot open my catalog after transfer to the new computer

I use 7 components on the computer that is running Windows XP. At about 5000 photos in my catalogue - all the tag and captioned.

Am in the process of moving to the new computer with Windows 7, 64-bit version. Used original disc to load Elements 7 on the new machine and organizing elements opens OK, but with just a white Notepad - and all tags are missing.

I used Windows Easy Transfer to move all the files and settings to the new machine.

The catalog seems to have been transferred and help items > Information System shows that it is located in the - who he is, according to Windows Explorer.

    C:\ProgrammeData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My catalog

But I could find no way to do items to connect to that file and open it like "My catalog" on the new machine. Would be catastrophic to see that I have to re tag and caption all of these photos. Probably impossible.

Have tried all the options in the drop down for the catalog file.

Have had different opinions on Elements 7 can be used with Windows 7 64 bit - some say it's OK, others say not. If it is open as it did in XP - just does not detect the catalog.

    Any ideas please?

OK, so you move the catalog.pse7db to the new computer, as well as anything else that seems to be linked to this folder (for example the subfolders).

Put it all on the new computer somewhere (any, any). If your photos are in the exact same on the new computer as they were on the old computer, you are finished. Just double-click on the file catalog.pse7db. If your photos are not in the same EXACT spot on the new computer, they were on the old computer, then use Windows to move them to this location.
