    Hello

    I wonder what is the best way to disconnect an external hard drive to USB powered.

    The first thing to do is of course, use the "safely remove hardware and eject Media" next to the clock.

    But, after that do you unplug the power or USB cord first?

  • I can't open my USB external hard drive

    When I plug my hard drive usb, it appears in 'My devices and printers' but I can't find anywhere else. I ran FixIt and convenience store and am really without a clue about where to go from here. Can someone give me an idea as to what to do next please?

    Hello

    In addition to the questions below, some additional questions for you to answer first: represents the already formatted drive? Are there files it contains? Windows 7 does not show empty drives unless you tell her.

    There are a few possibilities. I would do these things in order:

    (1) go to control panel and open the Device Manager and select portable devices. It shows? And is there a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside. It shows? Can solve you the problem (s) its reports? When you are finished, make a right click on it and then left click, look for changes on the hardware. What is the result of this?

    2) go to easeus.com (even if the HARD disk does not appear in the Device Manager) and download and install EaseUS Partition Wizard Home Edition application. Run the application, the HARD drive is displayed there? It shows its status?

    (3) come back here and post your answers and I'll try to help.

  • Need to receive a disk for the USB external hard drive

    I made a disk image of my C drive on a Windows 7 computer.  I restored this image on a larger drive that I installed in the place and place the image drive.  I installed the image drive (old c) in a usb enclosure and connected to the computer.  It does not appear in the disk as a letter volume manager.  It appears however as disc 3.  When I run DiskPart and check the id, it has the same id as the new C: drive but I can't change it.  Any suggestions on my situation would be appreciated.

    Original title: problem with USB

    Hi Gordon,.

    This problem occurs when the drive letter is not assigned to the player. Windows typically assigns a letter of the alphabet to most readers. We will try to assign the letter drive manually. You can assign any letter to a drive too long that the letter is not already used by another reader.

    I suggest you to assign the drive letter to the USB drive and check if it helps.

    Hello

    I just bought a Toshiba 250 GB Usb external hard drive because the seller advised me telling me that it works in my iBook G4 Mac OSX computer.

    I made it and I see it on my desktop with a folder called System Volume Information and 2.32 GB available.

    I tried to copy a file and I got a message saying that the disk is not editable.

    Where can I find the instructions to initialize if it's compatible?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

    I would really appreciate the help. I own a satellite 1800-712. I have receently bought a usb external hard drive for some extra memory (IE Toshiba MK4026GAX USB Device)

    When I connect it to my usb port it records any with the computer. The green light so there is power to the hard drive. The usb ports recognized of other fine features (a modem and memory stick)

    I tried the external hard drive on a desktop pc and it works fine.

    I have downloaded all windows xp service pack updates and updated my bios. Don't know what to do now.

    Please help and thank you in advance!

    Hello

    Although sometimes, I know that the OS is not able to recognize the external USB device, because the device external USB (HDD) consumes more energy than the 500mA.
    The USB ports provide 500mA power and if the device needs more power so it s is not possible for the Windows operating system to recognize the external device.
    You have an external power supply for the USB HDD? You should use it.

    Good bye

  • Computer laptop (Vista) does not take account any new working USB external hard drive

    Hello, I'm under the latest version of Windows Vista Edition Home Premium on a Dell XPS M1210 and spin in the problems with the connection of my second USB external hard drive. In other words, when I plug the drive (a Seagate expansion 1 TB), nothing happens. Literally nothing, no notification of installation of the driver, no sound is played stating that the system recognized the device, no new entry in post working or disk management. I connected this drive on another computer running Windows 7 and it worked without a problem, so I do not suspect the problem to lie in the hard drive, but with my computer. My other external hard drive USB, a Maxtor Basics Portable 250 GB, works perfectly, but there more than two years. I bought the 1 TB Seagate as a backup and an upgrade, but I plan to go back now that there is nothing more than a big black Clipboard with a green LED clear too much room. What can I do about it?

    Hello

    Most likely, there is not enough power for the USB port of your machine to the external device do recognize. As a test I would have you test the issue on another USB plug.

    I recommend you contact you either OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or the manufacturer of the motherboard if it is a machine of casting House and get the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard.

  • Response speed - USB external hard drive

    Hello

    I have W7 Professional (32 bit) installed on an Acer Ferrari 5000 with 4 GB of RAM. I have a 1 TB WD My Book USB external hard drive connected via USB.

    When I access the drive to play an Explorer of W7 film shows my folder & first screen load files instantly, but then the green progress under the full path bar direcory slowly starts to move across the screen and may take up to 3 minutes to stop. Durning his time my pc performace Marc everything stop. The video load but Windows Media Watch does not respond and the hourglass (or a circle in W7) shows the application as it is busy. Finally, video begins to play but jumps several images at once, even if the sound is fine. After about a minute the video started playing at double speed, befire the entire process repeats itself until it catches up with the sound and the video will play very well for about 10 minutes.

    Videos are not damaged (I can play my portable hard drive very well), the device signals healthy in the WD diagnostic tool and the firmare for the device is up to date (on the WD site).

    I see a lot of people in this forum have problems with W7 64 bit, but there is no mention of 32-bit issues. Also there never was problems with the device was detected or is not accessible - gal just access the device. My only job is about from the drive to copy the movie on my laptop and play it from there - which kind of defeated the purpose.

    I left a similar post on the WD website, which so far had no response. Is it a question of W7/USB? Any other ideas would be useful.

    Speed on USB hard drives is relatively slow at first. You are looking at maximum read anywhere between 25 and 32MBs speed if the CPU is not do much else at the time. Supported playback mode tend to transfer bog down over time, as the fragmentation of the file. USB is convenient but firewire and eSATA are faster and faster.

    Hello

    Seems that the external HARD disk drive cannot be recognized because of the driver problem.
    What you could do to disconnect the USB of ALL devices and open Device Manager.
    Then choose the display command, show hidden devices and uninstall all devices under USB controllers. Reboot the laptop.
    After restarting again the operating system must install USB drivers again and you could test whether the external HARD drive can be connected as well.

    I have goggled a bit and found a few interesting statement abut Cypress AT2LP RC58. It seems that the HARD drive is ok but sometimes the HARD drive cover and the interface connector would be malfunctions and so this problem would happen.

    But these are only suggestions if you want to try for Cypress AT2LP RC58 goggle and see for yourself.

  • Problem of the Satellite A100-912 usb external HARD drive

    Please help guys!

    I installed Win 7 32 bit on my laptop Satellite A100-912. Everything works perfectly in addition to having problem reading external usb HDD (disk appears in disk management, but are not accessible). These discs are not defective, because I use them on some other Pcs. Thumb drives are not a problem at all. Tried to use the self-powered USB hub but without success. Not sure if this is a related issue of Bios or a material limitation of this device. Thank you!

    > Everything works perfectly as well as having problem reading external usb HDD (disk appears in disk management, but are not accessible).

    The HARD disk appears in disk management, but you see the additional HDD in my computer?

    I don't know Mr. what could cause this and he s strange that you cannot access the USB HDD, even if it has been recognized correctly
    Maybe you should try updating the chipset driver.
    Chipset driver controls the ports of interface USB/so it of certainly worth a try

  • The mac USB external hard drive is compatible?

    is mac drive external hard usb compatible, if yes, how can I reformat it to make it work.

    Hello

    Well, you can use the disk external HARD on MAC, but MAC OS can read the NTFS, format etc.
    If you want to read and write on this HARD drive you must format format HFS or HFS + MAC compatible.
    But on this path you will erase all the files.

    In this case I recommend you copy all the files from the disk on Mac. Then format the HARD drive external and finally backup Mac files on the external HARD disk

    I recently bought and installed a MyBook 2 t Western Digital network drive.  It installed fine and I can see listed on the 'Computer' desktop and icon within the Norton backup program.  I have setup my regular backup routines successfully.  On the bottom: I recently lost a hard drive and replaced with a new one and spent several days to restore the system and install any patches, etc.  It was particularly difficult to get the installed Windows 7 SP1.  I wanted to install this drive external hard to use Windows built-in Backup and Restore to "create a system image.  When I select this option, the program asks me where I want to save the backup. • Windows 7 Pro Backup can not see my USB external hard drive.

    This seems to be an old problem, maybe someone has a solution:

    I have a Toshiba 150 GB NTFS USB 2.0 external hard drive I used as backup when I had XP, but now I have W7 Pro 64-bit (SP1), and the backup program is unable to see the player.

    It shows in Explorer, it works very well, has write permission, but is not in the list of Backup Options.

    Player is 18 months old. W7 found and installed the USB driver for it.

    It is wired, I don't have a network.

    In addition, Windows cannot format the drive.

    I changed the drive letter of that W7, named F to Z, no go.  All I see in the backup is C and the DVD player.

    It has been suggested that I have uninstall all the drivers USB and reboot and let Windows reload them, but I have a keyboard and a mouse USB, so if I do that has no way to control the computer.

    How can I make the visible external drive for the backup program? Any help is appreciated.

    I use Ghost on my 8 month, Toshiba Satellite L755 and have never seen a conflict.  I also have it on 3 desktop computers.  For antivirus I use AVG free on 3 systems, Symantec SEP on that and Norton Security Suite on the laptop (which I get for free from Comcast).  The only thing related to security, I see in the menu start from Ghost 15 is a small window to give people access to Ghost.  He also built in the feature called Threatcon, which I've never had any message of.  Here's the info of the construction in the help.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    On Symantec ThreatCon
    ThreatCon is threat of Symantec early warning security system. When Symantec identifies various threats, the ThreatCon team adjusts the level of threat. This adjustment gives people and adequate warning systems to protect against attacks and data systems.
    When you activate the trigger of Symantec ThreatCon to a selected backup job, Norton Ghost detects changes in the threat level. Your computer must be connected to the Internet, at the time. If the ThreatCon level is reached or exceeded, the backup operation in which you have enabled Symantec ThreatCon is started automatically. You have then a recovery point to use to recover your data to your computer should become affected by the latest threat.
    Note:
    If your computer is not online, then it is not sensitive to online threats. But if you connect your computer to the Internet at any time, it becomes vulnerable. You don't have to enable or Disable Symantec ThreatCon when you go on or off line. Works if you're online, it doesn't matter if you're offline.
  • Windows 8 and USB external hard drives
    I want a new dv7 with Windows 8 and an Iomega Prestige 1 TB external hard drive I use successfully on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. It behaves erratically in Windows 8. Sometimes it is not recognized at all. Sometimes it is, but trying to access it via Explorer, Windows crashes requiring a diet forced down. Other times, you can access it with success and even copy a file to it with Solution Explorer, but if you try to copy multiple files with the same drag and drop, it displays the calculation time to copy file window, but the calculation done so forever, just stays there. Also, when you try an Xcopy in the prompt with mutiple files and / or files, copy the first file he is suspended from the command window. The system has a newly updated BIOS and all installed Windows updates. Ideas?
    Tried moving the Iomega for a USB 3.0 drive (the drive is 3.0 and 2.0 compatible) 2.0 in Windows 8 port and it now works fine. No idea whether the problem with USB 3.0 with Windows 8, HP or Iomega.
