Cannot open the windows, want to do a clean reinstall of Vista.

Drive a Dell Inspiron 530 s, silver, low mileage (2.5 years)

BACKGROUND

After making a few updates (iTunes, Java, Windows security), the entire system went down.

You try to re - start I couldn't open the windows. Repair of the system would not turn on, and I kept circling of "a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Any suggestions on my screen in question this system repair or - of course - the system restore. Which is nice, if you can get Windows to open, but...

The instructions for starting a "CD or DVD" switch and put with the disk (provided by Dell with computer) were not working. Well, he tried to work, but turned around again to "a problem has detected...". »

MEASURES TAKEN

She drew out to the Geek Squad. Said diagnosis all the hardware is dandy, it's a software problem.

I brought her home today and now I want to do a clean install of Vista. (Makes one of the Windows platform, less than a year, no problem.)

SO FAR, I HAVE...

Tried to boot Windows from the disc. Nope

Looked all over Kingdom come to get instructions on what to do next.

I have my files on a portable hard drive, which is not a problem.

There must be a way forward here - can't be that hard, right? But I don't find it.

And Yes, I think to Exchange Vista for Windows 7 soon, but would like to make on this machine, because he got a big enough hard and plenty of RAM to my needs for a few more years.

Thank YOU - HELP is definitely appreciated.

Tom

Hi SaturdayNight,

I hope that is not redundant, but have you seen the following instructions from Dell?  They give information about reinstalling Vista on a Dell machine:

http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/DSN/en/document?docid=339949

I hope this helps!

  • my email is open, but no window shows? I get the email but cannot open the window to see?

My mail app is open. I get an email, but I can't open the window to see. I restarted my computer and right clicking on the icon to open a new window. What can I do to get the window to open it? I can see my mail on other devices or online.

Please stop Mail. Force quit if necessary.

Back up all data before proceeding.

If you use OS X 10.11 ("El Capitan") or version later, triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    ~/Library/Mail/V3/MailData

If you use an older version of Mac OS X, use this line:

    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. In the Finder, select

    Go ▹ go to folder

in the menu bar. Paste in the box that opens by pressing Command + V, then press return.

A file window opens. In it he must be files with names as follows:

    Index of the envelope

    ExternalUpdates.storedata

Move these files to the desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder can have names more long that begin as above. Move these files, if any, in the trash.

Mail recovery. It should invite you to re - import your messages. You can get a warning that the index is corrupted and that Mail must quit smoking. Click OK. Generally speaking, the process takes a few minutes, but this can take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In this case, you will be able to speed things up temporarily by adding your file to the list of personal information protection in the Spotlight preferences pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.

If the import operation stalls or fails with an error message, quit Mail, delete the two new index files (maintenance of the original that you moved to the desktop) and try again. According to several reports, the second attempt can succeed if one does not.

Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files that you moved to the desktop. If not, post your results.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

    Hello

I have a pc with windows 7 on it.

I want to update windows 10.

I received notification that my update is ready, but when I try to open the update of windows 10, it opens for 2 seconds and then it closes.

    What can I do?

If you can't get Windows 10 to get 10 app windows or Windows update, you always have the option of ISO to upgrade.

Download Windows 10 media creation tool

Simply select this option of PC/improvement.

After you download the Windows 10 installation files using this tool, you can upgrade your existing 10 Windows operating system, or you can create the bootable USB drive or DVD to install Windows 10 key later. You can also save the installation files to the ISO in offline mode file format, if you wish.

  • Cannot open the Windows store.

I have windows 8 on my computer and when I want to access the windows store., I see the green screen, which means it is opening but after a few seconds, she closes and goes at the beginning with all my programs and applications

    Original title: Windows Store

    @ SarahPrince,.

I've been running Windows 8 (new facility) since December last on a 4 year old PC and have never experienced this problem so it is quite difficult to give me appropriate guidance on how to solve this problem once forever.

However, you run no risk to use this utility Apps (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/4/F24D0C03-4181-4E5B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/apps.diagcab

Another suggestion would be to clear the DNS cache, even if I am not convinced that this will help you if you encounter the problem or regularly:

    • [Win] + X
    • Command prompt (Admin)
    • Enter IpConfig/flushdns + [Enter]

    Hope this helps
