  • I can't play DVDs in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 Pro and get this error msg: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD drive decoder and video card protection.

Hello, thanks for reading and helping me.

I try to play a legitimate, belonging to DVD, but Windows Media Player 12 will not play on my computer Windows 7 Professional.  The DVD worked a few days ago, but all of a sudden, I get the following error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I did a lot of research of these forums and on the ' net.  Here are the suggested steps I tried without success:

    • I tried VLC player.  This works.  However, rather than use this workaround, I wish to find a solution to my problem WMP/WMC.
    • I tried several DVD for years over the last decade.  These DVD works on my laptop, also running Windows 7 Professional and the shark 007 codec.
    • I uninstalled my Shark 007 codec
    • I tried other codecs (K-Lite)
    • I assured that the latest drivers are installed on my video card, XFX ATI Radeon 5850
    • I tried to uninstall Nero 9
    • I tried to use the Windows 7 troubleshooting options:
    • > Reading and burning CD, DVD and Blu - ray (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player DVD (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player Settings (detects a problem, wants to restore factory settings, every time, no matter what happens)
    • A system restore to a time when the DVD was working did not resolve the issue
    • The different links in Microsoft, I found in this forum about this problem do not seem to be useful.  There is a link that points to the set-top boxes, but this page just says: "Windows 7 comes with a decoder.
    • I assured the latest driver is available by going to "Device Manager", right click on the drive, then click on "update driver software".
    • I assured that the latest firmware is installed directly from the manufacturer's website.
    • I tried to reset my DRM by renaming the DRM under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder and by going to this Web site to upgrade:http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1
    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Media Player 12 and Windows Media Center via the function "functionality in Windows.

I would be very grateful if a Microsoft technology could chime.  Thanks for your help!

Windows xp does not come standard with a dvd decoder, so it must be installed. This would have been done by Dell when you purchased if you say that you did not.

DVD playback requires a DVD decoder and the only versions
Vista that included in Home Premium and Ultimate.

FWIW... before installing the software, it is always better to create a system restore point.

And... you can be able to play your DVDs with the free VLC Media Player:

A last possibility would be to install a codec Pack:

After you apply an update to the media player, I now get the error message

"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region. »

I went to my comments to logon (standard user) media player works fine

so I'm back and tried to reinstall the mediaplayer to my admin login, it wouldn't let me not delete it, ran Media Player microsoft penalty shooter, he said everything ok

so I changed the guest account on an admin account to try to remove it from there, but as soon as I did this mediaplayer stopped working in the feedback connection that leads me to believe its a sort of level access virus, that has permeated the media player or a defect in this connection required to complete admin update media player

    Hello

    ·         Have you tried the steps in method 1 of troubleshooting?

    ·         Do you have any code or an error message when you try to uninstall Windows Media player?

    Method 1:

You can try to connect the different DVD player and check if it works.

    Method 2:

You can re - register wmp.dll file and check if it helps.

    (a) log on as an administrator.
    (b) click Start, type cmd in the Search text box, right-clickcmd.exe, click run as administrator, and then click on continue.
    (c) at the command prompt, type regsvr32 wmp.dll press ENTER.

    Method 3:

You can also try to create a new administrator user account and check if it helps:

  • Vista Ultimate cannot play the DVD because of the DRM

I have Windows Vista Ultimate installed on a workstation Dell T5400 with Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 graphics card, old monitors and one audio interface Focusrite Saffire. I am watching a DVD on this computer, but have been unable to do. Whenever I try to read the DVD, I get the following message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I installed the latest Dell drivers for this video card. I understand that Vista ultimate is supposed to read the DVD. I also tried the free 'vlc' program to read the DVD and it is unable to do the same. It is frustrating, as I'm not trying to make digital copies of what that is is not clear to me why digital copy protection would be involved.

    Any suggestions?

Artuero, software decoding DVD comes 3rd party and is not available from Microsoft - it means reinstall this software, you must locate and either perform a repair or reinstall from the CD.  I find it interesting that you are unable to read a DVD in the player VLC Media as is the only free software that I am aware of that contains a built in DVD decoder.  You may want to try to go to file and then open in VLC and opening an of the. VOB files containined in the folder VIDEO_TS to DVD as a test.

    Please, perform the following steps:
-In Windows Media Player, press the ALT key and select Help on Windows Media Player
-Click on the Support information link, paste the content in this thread so that we can take look at what codecs/decoders is currently installed.

The DVD is encoded for a different region. Most DVD readers only works with DVDs that are coded for the computer was purchased in the same region. So if you buy a DVD in one country and then try to play on one computer from another country this DVD could not play.

    Step 1:

    (b) in the search box, type Device Manager.

    c. right-click on the DVD drive.
